=^= Sending =^= Thor replied, then, to Kesh, he messaged =^= Your calculations show a much less powered strike to their ships than initially considered. Work with Tactical in that. You’re the one up there and have the best view. =^=

=/\=Enough of your stalling! Our ships’ presence is proof enough!=/\=

Then the four ships powered up their weapons as they began to move around the Genesis.

The first burst of fire came forth as torpedoes. They were nuclear in nature.

GM

Magnus snorted “Masters of diplomacy them” He clasped his hands together “Target and disable weapons, let’s also see if we can take down those torpedoes before they touch us” He looked to the Captain, this was their first Combat mission together and he was curious as to his style in Ship to ship combat.

XO

Marius nodded his assent. “Tactical dedicate one battery of phasers for counter-missile uses.”

“Full reverse, back off....” Marius was going to go for range where the Genesis superior weapons would have all the advantages. “Nukes. Filthy weapons.” He shook his head. Dirty weapons but still fairly dangerous.

“Take surgical shots from where they can’t touch us.”

Marius

Dagen sent up notes to both Kesh and Tactical =^=- Their inertial systems are weak. Start at a 5% strength on phasers. Kesh, plot payload on the torpedoes and work optimal distance to neutralize them. =^=

Dagen, CE

OOC: Is any one at tactical to fire the phasers?

IC: As the Genesis reversed, the missiles altered course. These missiles were tracking their target …

GM

Oh, Marius looked at the screen. There was a good chance the Genesis was just flat faster than the missiles… “Phansers?” He pointed at the missiles on the screen.

Marius

NE Cannons at the Tactical console did as ordered. One phaser bank targetting the incoming Nuclear missiles and two other forward banks aimed at the nearest ships set at 5% power as directed by engineering. He targeted the weapons systems. “Opening fire”

NE Cannons

Kesh could say for certain that calculating the explosive yield of missiles currently incoming to the ship she is currently occupying and determining the safest possible means of detonating them was not on her list of things she enjoyed doing nor hoped to do today.

But, circumstances.

“Aye, sir.” Again she replied to Dagan quite flatly, but her focus was on ensuring the frequency of the phasers being fired by Tactical was going to have the best-possible outcome at the moment.

-> Kesh, Engineering

=^= You focus on the battle items. I’ll keep my eye on ship’s power. =^= he replied up. =^= You’re doing the work of engineer and scientist. You’re doing well. =^=
Dagen

The phasers caught the missiles. The Genesis shook and the radiation from the missiles was considerable. The shields of the Genesis held back the radiation.

The other phasers easily took out the engineering on two of the ships. However, the ships were in danger of being irradiated because engineering was keeping an energy barrier to repel the radiation. The other two ships fired another volley of missiles …

GM

OOC: Hi Kenson, clarification question .. is the energy barrier interior on the ships to keep the radiation away from the rest of the ships that originated in engineering? And if so, was that caused by the hit? Or, is the radiation the same as that plaguing the Genny from the detonations and those ships being in the area and the energy barrier was shielding that the ships were powering from engineering that went down? .. sorry, that’s a very before coffee question here .. Gene

OOC: The ships have an energy barrier to repel the radiation that results from the explosion of nuclear missiles. The controls for this barrier are found in engineering. When engineering was damaged, the barrier went offline. Hope that helps.

Marius exhaled loudly irritated. “Are they seriously about to irradiate themselves with their own weapons,” He didn’t say it but his expression screamed ‘idiots.’

“Is there any way we can take over the guidance for the nukes?” They were clearly remote controlled.

“XO, tractor beams?” He faced Magus…

Marius

Magnus half-smiled at the Captain “I recommend using the tractor beam to gently push them out of the irradiated space.” He looked back at the engineering station at Kesh “I’m assuming their weapons are as antiquated as their ships. Which means we can use the same sensor ghost trick but can we override the torpedos to avoid shooting them down?” He asked.

XO

“Their weaponry does seem to be on the same level of technology as their.. ah… vessel power systems, yes, rrrnnth.” An ear twang subtly conveyed Kesh’s displeasure of referring to the aliens’ technology as ‘antiquated’. This was no time to be picky about wording, though.

With aid from Engineering fine-tuning the power output, Kesh made sure the tractor beam output was ready to cut through the radiated particles and provide just enough force to move objects without tearing them apart. At the same time, she brings up more detail on the sensor scans of the torpedos, particularly their guidance systems.

”.. nn.. ah… rrr.. a projected IR and EM field from the deflector dish should act akin to chaff in confusing their weaponry, yes.”

-> Kesh, Engineering.

Magnus turned a pleased smile at the Engineer “Excellent, please commence confusion Ensign.” He looked back at the Captain “Permission to take out the rest of the ships and push the others out of harms way?”

XO

Marius nodded.

The ‘chaff’ that Kesh creates registers on the ship sensors more so than on the visual feed, as the deflector field is altered to act as a refactor for various energy fields, making bits and pieces of the ship’s various power signatures appear are various locations within 5000 km of the ship itself, like stepping into a house of mirrors.

Glancing over at Kesh, “Let them get closer than 5,000 km,” Marius didn’t want to reveal too much plus there wasn’t a nuke made that could damage a starship at 500 km much less 5000.

Kesh then requests Engineering to run the ship’s power systems through various spectrum cycles to encourage the missiles to focus their lock onto one of the reflections that were, briefly, the same signature as what was originally locked onto. The then delayed spectrum cycling for the ghost signals further encourages the guidance systems to search for different targets, leaving the ship’s signature as one among thousands to choose from.

Assuming, of course, the technological level of guidance systems is equal to that of the other technology on display.

-> Kesh, Engineer

Marius mumbled to himself under his breath. “Lets go with that, until we are done taking out the power on the ships. ” He gestured with his finger, “Let draw the missiles around us and detonate them on the other side of the Genesis… not too close just in case the have proximity or remote fuses.” Which they probably did.

Marius

“Aye, sir-rrth.” Kesh responded, her slurred vocal tick even more pronounced than usual while her focus was on keeping the chaff behaving properly, creating an activity not unlike the ancient earth game Missile Command, with a somewhat similar premise.

Gradually, as to avoid causing the missiles to regain their lock on the ship, the radius of the distraction field shrunk down to under 1000km, while attempting to funnel the ordinance around and into the Genesis’ wake. Thanks to the redirected power and processing cycles assigned by engineering, it becomes ever easier to tap and dab her way toward leading the missiles along like fish with millet.

-> Kesh, Engineering

The Genesis was able to divert the missiles as planned and detonated them with ease. The nearest irradiated ship then turned towards the Genesis and seemed intent to crash into her. As it was doing this the deflector shield was ready to take away power. It was now about 20 minutes from the arrival of the other ships.

GM

“Come on,” Marius said in an annoyed fashion as his fist hit his armrest. “I’ve never seen a people so motivated to die for no reason.”

“Cannons, put a tractor beam on that incoming vessel, push it out of the radiation and keep it off us then target the remaining vessels, disable weapons first then engines, try not to blow a hole in them” He ordered. The NE answered with a single ‘Aye’ and did as ordered.

XO

Marius looked at the the tactical screen. At full reverse he didn’t think the ?Loosian? ship had a chance of getting close enough to ram them. However he was ready to go to warp to keep them from killing themselves and probably scratching his paint. Marius turned to the XO. “I’m getting a little tired of saving them from themselves.”

Marius

Magnus shrugged “Perhaps we should give their backup time to arrive so they can give them relief then jump to their homeworld and say hi” He suggested, he understood the Captains feelings on this matter, this fight was a struggle not because of the skill or ability of the enemy but the lack thereof, they had to be careful not to crush them by accident.

XO

OOC: Sorry. I was hoping for someone to do the weapons and the firing … apparently no one was interested.

IC: Ops managed to get a tractor beam to deflect the Lesscoo ship.

Tactical managed to disable the weapons and the engines without disabling the radiation shields within the ship. The other ships were 15 minutes away from their location.

GM

“Put us at 200,000 kilometers from the disabled ships.” Marius looked at the board. He had fifteen minutes. “Are any of them in danger of dying before their reinforcements arrive.”

Marius

Magnus relayed the Captain’s order to the Helm NE Before returning to his chair and checking the status from his workstation “Scan the damaged vessels” He ordered as he requested the information to be relayed through his screen.

XO

OOC: Sorry. pressed the submitted button prematurely …

IC: Scans showed that the ships would survive with enough time for the arriving ships to retrieve them.

GM

Magnus looked up “They’ll be fine, sir” He said with a grin “Should we head for the homeworld and speak with their leaders?” He asked

XO

Marius stared… “Might mean we have to shoot more to get there.” He kept staring at the screen. “There is only a limited number times you can fire a gun and not accidentally hit something.” But right now he only had one good option.

“Helm set course for the Loossian home world, Warp 6.55.” He wasn’t going to get close to showing their top speed. Let them think they are working hard to break the warp 6 barrier.
