Once the ensign got off of her shift, she went to the mess hall, she didn’t know what she wanted to do so she took her break and sat by herself. She then noticed that someone else was sitting alone. As she sat there she said to the other person “Hey come here sit with me. I could use the company if you’d like to sit down.”

He didn’t know the person well enough so he wanted to think that it would be nice to know someone else from the same ship to sit down and talk to but she was didn’t know what to say to the officer to talk. He thought that it would be best to try and interact with the person.

“Hello,” Vanessa said moving from the spot she just sat in to the table with Ensign Angel. All she had was coffee but that was always what she had for lunch. “I would love the company. Vanessa,” she said sticking out her hand.

OOC: it was supposed to be for this character. So I do apologize.

IC: “So uh Vanessa. How are you doing? If you’re wondering how I am doing, I’m doing alright. Could be better.” He said.

Lt. Angel

“Well I am still above ground so it can’t be that bad,” she joked taking a sip of her drink. “My father says that all the time. What’s up that has you feeling down?”

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Heh. You noticed haven’t you? Yeah you could put it that way. Well um. You know how it is when someone loves you and then just leaves you for someone else or even cheated on you? Well I was cheated on back in the academy. 1st year academy in fact. Although, I felt like I’m not someone to be dating anyone.” He said. “I also heard you uh talked to my um. Little sister.” He said as well. Knowing the fact that he also needed a friend to talk to.

Lt. Angel

“Your Lindzie’s brother,” Vanessa said with a smile. “Yes, I had the pleasure of meeting her a while back. What it is like serving with your sibling,” she asked taking a sip of her coffee.

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Well Vanessa. I don’t really talk to my sister. We uh don’t get along.” He said.

Lt. Angel

“And they put you on the same ship?” The idea seemed odd to Vanessa. Many people had family serving aboard Starfleet. It was not uncommon to have families as husband and wife with kids on ships but it was unique to have siblings due to the inherent dangers of space. It was even odder to have siblings that did not get along. Ships were big but not that big.

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Well I selected this assignment after spacedock. But I didn’t know she was here so I’ve been ignoring her lately. I wished we were on better terms you know.” He said.

Lt. Angel

“I do. I have ten brothers and we all still live in the same house. Siblings are your best friends and your worst enemies,” Vanessa laughed. “Is it only the two of you?”

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Yeah. My other sibling she was the oldest. I’m the middle. She died during a training cruise on the USS Enterprise E. She was proud to have served under Jean-Luc Picard. But she died.” He said as he started to tear up.

Lt. Angel

“Losing people is tough. I’m here to listen or talk,” Vanessa offered not knowing that the Lt. might need.

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Heh. It’s probably what I need. Also, could I talk to you about something a little more personal?” He asked. He wanted to be on the safe side of asking her before talking about personal things like relationships and dating.

Lt. Angel

“Absolutely. It’s why they pay me the big bucks,” she let out a small chuckle hoping some humor would relax the Lt. “Would you like to talk here or would you prefer my office? I am free now if it is convenient for you.”

Vanessa Slade CNS

“We can talk here. It’s just been on my mind for a while. It involves with my sister and my emotions. It’s something I’ve been wanting to talk to someone about.” He said.

Lt. Angel

Vanessa got comfortable in her seat. “Well, siblings bring out the best in us and the worst. They know all our secrets and our pasts. That is the blessing and curse of having a family. They might make you want to kill them but they also are there to help you bury the bodies. I have nine brothers,” she shared. “I am closer to some more than others. I still love them dearly but at times,” she gestured around her to the mess hall, “it is nice to have an identity that is not tied to ‘oh you are David’s little sister.’ Tell me about your sister,” she asked taking a drink of her coffee.

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Well counselor, my sister is Lyndzie and to be honest she’s a pain in the backside to me and I do not like her that often she’s one sibling that sometimes I wished that I never had. She’s too cocky and to be honest I don’t know what I do if she doesn’t shut up. Sometimes I wished that she wasn’t the sister I wanted. Although, she did destroy my last dating relationship that I had when we were at the academy and I don’t feel comfortable having her on the same ship around me at all with the fact that we do not like each other. Hence the reason why we stay away from each other. We don’t talk to each other or anything.” He said as he explained to Vanessa.
