T’Lora stood a familiar door, holding a PADD under her arm. She’d only just returned from her mandatory leave, but she wanted to get back into her old routine, and that meant coming to the intelligence offices. She felt a little guilty for not having informed Tom that she’d be gone, but he’d know that from personnel files. Unexpectedly showing up outside his office… that was a gray area. She’d call it a good surprise. With that in mind, she hit the door chime.
-T’Lora

As her finger closed in on the chime the door slid open.

“Come in Doctor.”

Tom was sitting at his desk and holographic monitor feeds and data displays were sinking into the abyssal blackness of his desktop.

  • Tom, IntSec

OOC: I completely lost it and thought I’d replied! I’m so sorry.
IC:
T’Lora stepped in, smiling slightly. “Hello Tom. I thought I ought to come by… now that I’m back.” She twisted her hands slightly, a tiny nervous tic. “Sorry I didn’t drop by sooner.”

Tom smiled easily.

“I’m sure you had your reasons. What brings you to my office?”

  • Tom, IntSec

T’Lora flushed slightly, her cheeks tinging green. “This is when our meetings were scheduled for. I wanted to…” She faltered. “I’m not sure what I wanted. To tell you that I hadn’t forgotten I suppose. I mean, I forgot, but I didn’t…” She trailed off, not quite sure what she was trying to say. “Sorry.”

Tom looked confused.

“What do you mean your forgot but you didn’t? Are you referring to the recordings or is there some strange new development?” Tom asked.

  • Tom, IntSec

T’Lora shook her head. “No, I used the recordings.” She paused and took a breath. “I didn’t want you to think I was using what happened to Ben as an excuse to stop talking to you.”
-T’Lora, CMO

Tom still looked confused.

“I never considered that as a possibility.” Tom replied wondering where this was going if anywhere.

Tom was used to people suddenly stopping talking to him for a variety of reasons. Usually him being an Internal Security Officer was enough.

  • Tom, IntSec

“Oh.” T’Lora looked down, suddenly feeling awkward. “I suppose I assumed you would.” She was starting to wonder if she should have requested a transfer after all, so this could be done over long distance comms and she wouldn’t be embarrassing herself. “Has it been quiet since I’ve been… gone?” Gone didn’t feel like the right word for that disastrous away mission, but she couldn’t think of anything else.

“On this ship? It’s never quiet for long though I was gone for a while. I left a LtCdr and, for cover purposes to a matter I can’t tell you about, my rank was lowered back to Lt, then I was promptly forgot about until the matter was settled.”

Tom smiled a moment.

“Once settled, I was sent back here without the reapplication of the former rank because, ‘Someone with no notoriety and so many transfers must be a problem officer.’ because surely someone as unremarkable as me…” Tom indicated his totally average appearance, “…hasn’t really earned such a rank.”

Tom took a sip of his fruit infused water.

“It’s just unfortunate that the person who handles rank and transfer approvals isn’t cleared to look at my mission reports.”

“I was sent back shortly after this first contact mission started so between our last mission together, and this one, we’re at about the same run.”

Tom leaned forward towards T’Lora.

“It is nice to see you again though.” he said with a friendly wink.

Bump

T’Lora grinned, relieved. “How eventful! I suppose you’ll have to do something especially heroic and earn a field promotion,” she joked. “It’s oddly parallel. You left a LtCmdr and came back a Lt, I left an Ensign and came back a Lt. jg.” How strange, that while they were gone they closed such a distance. “I suppose you handled quite a bit of the intelligence for this mission, hm?” Possibly the best thing about working in sickbay was that she didn’t have to worry about the legalities of the prime directive, or the strategic planning beyond triage, but it always interested her to hear about it.
