<snip>

The space ship stopped slightly more than five minutes. It reached about 90 million kilometres from its previous location. There was no time distortion because of the stable warp field. It fired its smaller propulsion engines to turn the ship around. Then it went into warp again and returned to 500 kilometres from its original position after emerging from warp about 5 minutes later. Then it used its smaller propulsion engines to prepare to descend into the planet’s atmosphere. As soon as it started to descend, a frigate from the Lesscoo system began to move towards the Messi system.

GM

“Well,” Calvin stared at the ship. “That’s a successful warp drive is that not?” He looked around. “Please have it put in the official log.”

“I think this just turned into an offical first contact for us.”

“Science tell me when that Lesscoo ship closes to half a light year. At that point we’ll warn her off.”

Marius CO

Vanessa sat up straighter in her seat. First contact situations meant she was a go for the away team. Normally she would be excited about the opportunity. Today she was ecstatic. She had spent the better part of the morning remembering that strangling another government official usually involved nasty things like security and court marshals. Now she was presented with the opportunity to be more Nelson Mandella than Spartacus in helping the Messi get out from under the Lesscoo’s thumb. It would be her first mission like this so Vanessa wasn’t sure who she would rather beam down with. The XO and the CO both had a way of side glancing her at times which she referred to off the record as the ‘pip down’ look. She could be rather feisty at times but both men also appeared to support her sometimes unconventional approaches. In the end, it wasn’t her choice who the big guy sent on the away team with her but she was already mentally preparing for her departure.

According to the sensors, the ship would take about 4 days to reach them at their present warp speed.

GM

“4 days at current speed, sir” The Science NE announced.

Magnus took a step from the Tactical console, allowing the Tactical officer to get back to his station and joined the Counselor and Jarvis near the Captain “Looks like things are going well.”

XO

“We’ll we can time that arrival with a sun dial.” Calvin did really even want to be there in 4 days. But this had a chance of running long.

=/\=McGregor to Genesis, calling for the Captain.=/\=

COS

=^=Yes, Mister McGregor, Go for the Captain,” Calvin responded.

Marius CO

=/\=Captain, I feel the need to request relief in the form of a more senior officer. This has gone beyond the scope of a simple reconnaissance mission and I am not prepared for a First Contact.=/\=

COS

=^=Wait one, either myself or the XO will be beaming down. Can they tolerate a beam down?=^= Marius turned to science, “Any reason to think this is a trap?”

Vanessa took a sip of her coffee to hide her expression. Why why why does every Marine, security, or tactical officer think everything is going to be a trap. Maybe they have a nice buffet spread out with snacks and some booze under a banner that says Go Federation. Think positive boys, she mentally had a conversation that was not appropriate for the bridge. Sure there might be an odd occasion that some unfortunate away party was strapped to a slab and offered up in sacrifice to some alien religious ceremony but it was not like that was so common that it was listed as more than a footnote in the section about first contacts.

Tom read Vanessa’s body language and facial expressions. He couldn’t be sure of what she was thinking but he thought he might have an idea.

No sound of footfalls, just his voice quietly from behind her left shoulder, “It’s because they’re trained to think that way.”

  • Tom, IntSec

=/\=Unknown. I mean, we beamed down, but they haven’t really asked us about how we got here,=/\= Thomas replied. =/\=The normal first contact protocols for a confirmed new-to-warp species suggest shuttlecraft, don’t they?=/\= he asked, struggling to recall the two diplomatic courses he’d taken at the academy the better part of a decade prior.

He then pivoted over to the XO. “You or me XO.” Marius probably was the better fit, but with the Lesscco playing games up here and the Messi possibly being an unknown, might make the XO less willing to let him beam down.

Marius

Magnus gave the Captain a flat look “Normally You wouldn’t even get the chance to stand up from that chair” He said quietly “But you are the Captain” He flashed a smile “Try not to give me an early promotion, sir”

COS

OOC: Note, none of the natives have actually seen the beaming. The away team just entered their facility and asked to meet their ‘leaders’ ;)

GM

Vanessa struggled to sit patiently for the Captain to call out whether he was going or not. It strangely was reminiscent of waiting to be picked in a pick up game of kickball from her youth. This time however she knew she would be on the team instead of having to run home to tell her mom that one of her brothers wouldn’t let her play and water girl was not exactly a position on the team.

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Okay,” Marius started since the XO hadn’t seemed to protest. He pointed at Tom and Vanessa, “Okay, Tom you’ll be another set of supecious eyes and double as added security. Vanessa you’ll be our good talker.” He intentionally spoke in a broken manner.

Marius

OOC: We can jump to the beam down since we are moving slowly.

Luke

Tom nodded, “By your command.” and turned to go prep for the away mission.

  • Tom, IntSec

OOC: I saw that

IC: The Lesscoo ship was still a long way off. It had only travelled about 0.17 light years from the time it started. They were about 15 hours from the half light year mark that the CO had indicated. From there it would take another 2 days 19.8 hours to reach the Genesis’s present location.

GM

Magnus looked down at the Tactical assessment “If there’s even the slightest chance of a risk I’m beaming you out of there, sir” He said with the same smile on his face “Oh and counselor, try not to yell at these negotiations” He added as the team left.
