=/\=Captain, lock on to my signal and give me two minutes,=/\= Thomas said, moving for the entrance to the mountain. Hopefully, the Captain beaming down there would minimize any fuss and allow them to maintain the fiction that they’d arrived through some other means.

The transport went without any problems

The second her feet hit the ground, Vanessa instantly let her eyes take in everything around her. She tried to downplay the wide-eyed excitement of actually being on another planet. In a way, she felt like Dorothy and suddenly in the land of OZ. While the rest of the Genesis crew was used to being on different worlds, this was only the second planet other than Earth that she had ever been on.

Calvin looked about. Presumably he was in a safe location with the appropriate people about. “Good Afternoon, Gentlebeings, I am Captain Marius of the Star-Ship Genesis, representing the United Federation of Planets. We come in peace, in hopes of finding mutual areas of discussion and cultural exchange.” He started with the fairly rote Federation first contact greeting.

“To whom am I speaking and who do you represent?”

Marius

Beth blinked several times, wondering how the Captain had appeared before her. Mean, on the other hand, had noticed a new voice and came forward.

“I am Menn, officer in charge of liaison with off planet visitors,” he bowed a little as he introduced himself. He pointed to Beth and said, “This is Beth, the director of this facility, responsible for the development of off world transport.”

GM

“You have a liaison for off planet visitors, how progressive of you and your governemnt. Have you had many such visitors?” Prior warp civilization interference made the Prime Directive less strict.

“Perhaps created on the spur of the moment as we did sort of just drop in on them much like the Vulcans dropped in on the Humans of earth when Cochrane successfully completed his first flight, we were just a touch earlier.” Tom said.

“Beth, nice meeting you, this is our Ship’s Counselor, and close advisor. Lieutenant Slade.. Tom Jarvis, internal security. ”

Marius

“Our government, that is from this continent, planned for an eventuality when we started venturing off into space,” explained Menn. “My job was to assess possible visits from other worlds as well as to be the point of contact.”

“So nice to meet you. Call me Vanessa,” she said extending her hand. Since the woman was introduced without a title, Vanessa decided to offer the same opportunity. Marius had given Beth her last name and rank. If the woman used it that was fine with Vanessa but she had always thought that the use of first names made people feel more comfortable.

“Your world is beautiful,” Vanessa looked around. “Thank you for letting us come down to see it.”

Vanessa Slade

Beth beamed, “Thank you for your praise. The middle continent has always wanted to preserve our natural resources. Whilst we understand that we need to use up resources, we also need to ensure that the natural environment is not harmed.”

“You are smarter than we were in the past on that topic,” Vanessa complimented the woman. “I would love the opportunity to see more of your world if we have the chance.”

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Indeed. It took us hundreds of years to rebuild what we damaged, and we could never recover some of the things we destroyed.”

Thomas relaxed slightly as the Captain smoothly took over the talks, sliding smoothly into a protective role: slightly back and to the right of the Captain, eyes peeled for anything amiss.

COS

Tom had his recorders going feeding data to the HUD in the contact display in his left eye.

The two natives from the planet seemed very genuine in their welcome and attitude. The other workers in the facility had kept largely away from the Starfleet officers. Comparing physiology, the other workers showed discomfort and possibly fear.

GM

‘This is a shocking amount of foresight for a just-new-to-warp society,’ Thomas thought. ‘Why were they so convinced that not only were there others out there, that they would need a system to receive visitors?’

COS

Tom could understand the fear and discomfort. A commonality Tom found in most races when meeting people from new cultures for the first time.

“Many races never develop, or grow out of, the ideology that they are the only life in the universe and start prepping for the eventuality. before they even leave their planet.”

  • Tom, IntSec

Reia had noticed the fear or discomfort in the workers and hoped it was simply because of the presence of aliens on their planet and not her damned pheromones at work again.

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

“We normally have specialized teams that do, what we call first contact. But all ships, and all crews are trained as you never know the circumstances of a particular encounter. This so far has been one of the smoothest with the slight exception of the contact of another race who call themselves the Lessco. Are you familiar with them?”

Marius

Menn looked surprised. “You are the first we have encountered. These Less…, other race, have they come down to visit us before? If they did, I have not met them.”

Beth looked a little more circumspect. “Once we were able to travel outside the atmosphere of our planet, we were aware of the possibility of offworlders coming to meet us. There have been reports of ships from other places coming to visit our planet but most, if not all, have proven to be hoaxes or just a misinterpretation of atmospheric phenomena.”
