The transport went without any problems

The second her feet hit the ground, Vanessa instantly let her eyes take in everything around her. She tried to downplay the wide-eyed excitement of actually being on another planet. In a way, she felt like Dorothy and suddenly in the land of OZ. While the rest of the Genesis crew was used to being on different worlds, this was only the second planet other than Earth that she had ever been on.

Calvin looked about. Presumably he was in a safe location with the appropriate people about. “Good Afternoon, Gentlebeings, I am Captain Marius of the Star-Ship Genesis, representing the United Federation of Planets. We come in peace, in hopes of finding mutual areas of discussion and cultural exchange.” He started with the fairly rote Federation first contact greeting.

“To whom am I speaking and who do you represent?”

Marius

Beth blinked several times, wondering how the Captain had appeared before her. Mean, on the other hand, had noticed a new voice and came forward.

“I am Menn, officer in charge of liaison with off planet visitors,” he bowed a little as he introduced himself. He pointed to Beth and said, “This is Beth, the director of this facility, responsible for the development of off world transport.”

GM

“You have a liaison for off planet visitors, how progressive of you and your governemnt. Have you had many such visitors?” Prior warp civilization interference made the Prime Directive less strict.

“Perhaps created on the spur of the moment as we did sort of just drop in on them much like the Vulcans dropped in on the Humans of earth when Cochrane successfully completed his first flight, we were just a touch earlier.” Tom said.

“Beth, nice meeting you, this is our Ship’s Counselor, and close advisor. Lieutenant Slade.. Tom Jarvis, internal security. ”

Marius

“Our government, that is from this continent, planned for an eventuality when we started venturing off into space,” explained Menn. “My job was to assess possible visits from other worlds as well as to be the point of contact.”

“So nice to meet you. Call me Vanessa,” she said extending her hand. Since the woman was introduced without a title, Vanessa decided to offer the same opportunity. Marius had given Beth her last name and rank. If the woman used it that was fine with Vanessa but she had always thought that the use of first names made people feel more comfortable.

“Your world is beautiful,” Vanessa looked around. “Thank you for letting us come down to see it.”

Vanessa Slade

Beth beamed, “Thank you for your praise. The middle continent has always wanted to preserve our natural resources. Whilst we understand that we need to use up resources, we also need to ensure that the natural environment is not harmed.”

“You are smarter than we were in the past on that topic,” Vanessa complimented the woman. “I would love the opportunity to see more of your world if we have the chance.”

Vanessa Slade CNS

“Indeed. It took us hundreds of years to rebuild what we damaged, and we could never recover some of the things we destroyed.”

Thomas relaxed slightly as the Captain smoothly took over the talks, sliding smoothly into a protective role: slightly back and to the right of the Captain, eyes peeled for anything amiss.

COS

Tom had his recorders going feeding data to the HUD in the contact display in his left eye.

The two natives from the planet seemed very genuine in their welcome and attitude. The other workers in the facility had kept largely away from the Starfleet officers. Comparing physiology, the other workers showed discomfort and possibly fear.

GM

‘This is a shocking amount of foresight for a just-new-to-warp society,’ Thomas thought. ‘Why were they so convinced that not only were there others out there, that they would need a system to receive visitors?’

COS

Tom could understand the fear and discomfort. A commonality Tom found in most races when meeting people from new cultures for the first time.

“Many races never develop, or grow out of, the ideology that they are the only life in the universe and start prepping for the eventuality. before they even leave their planet.”

  • Tom, IntSec

Reia had noticed the fear or discomfort in the workers and hoped it was simply because of the presence of aliens on their planet and not her damned pheromones at work again.

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

“We normally have specialized teams that do, what we call first contact. But all ships, and all crews are trained as you never know the circumstances of a particular encounter. This so far has been one of the smoothest with the slight exception of the contact of another race who call themselves the Lessco. Are you familiar with them?”

Marius

Menn looked surprised. “You are the first we have encountered. These Less…, other race, have they come down to visit us before? If they did, I have not met them.”

Beth looked a little more circumspect. “Once we were able to travel outside the atmosphere of our planet, we were aware of the possibility of offworlders coming to meet us. There have been reports of ships from other places coming to visit our planet but most, if not all, have proven to be hoaxes or just a misinterpretation of atmospheric phenomena.”

GM

Vanessa’s forehead wrinkled up in the classic expression of confusion. It was a perplexing problem to have one group know a lot about someone but someone know nothing about the other group. “I’m sorry,” she apologized. “Are you saying you have never officially met the Lesscoo because they sure had a lot to say about the Messi.”

Vanessa Slade CNS

This was something Reia had missed being on the planet as she was. She also had a feeling things weren’t completely as they seemed here on this lovely little world. Luckily all would be noted for her to review later.

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

“What do you mean?” asked Menn curiously.

“They mean,” said Beth, “that there have been outworlders who have been observing us unnoticed. It would not be far fetched to assume that there technology is more advanced than ours. Even our visitors here have landed on our planet unnoticed.”

GM

“True enough, technology allows for observations that may not be noticed. But some races, like these Lessco, have made a claim on your planet. Apparently to them, your planet is theirs to possess.” Calvin said bluntly. He wasn’t going to pretend that the Lessco is anything more than what they had displayed themselves to be.

“To be blunt, we indicated that we wanted to see what your position on this was before we allowed… well they called it domination.”

Marius

Hold up. Wait a minute did you just say before we allow domination? Okay, I have a three o’clock that just opened up on my schedule to discuss how we are not going to just let that happen regardless of what two Messi say. Looking at Marius, Vanessa tried not to let her expression show she was taken back a bit by Calvin’s bluntness. At times the man had such a poker face, Vanessa wasn’t sure if he was going to capitulate or shove a boot on someone’s keister. There was no way he would just step aside and let the Lesscoo run roughshod over this planet.

“Um…excuse me,” Vanessa held up a finger as if they were in school and she was about to ask the teacher a question. “Can we um circle back for a hot minute from the domination topic and whether you will be waving Messi Magenta or Lesscoo Lavender flags next month? You are giving me the impression that it is no big deal whatsoever for a group of people to materialize out of thin air and say hello I’m Vanessa, this is Cal, Reia, and Tom. Welcome to the Galactic neighborhood. Now Menn here,” Vanessa gestured to the woman, “has the actual position in your government as liaison to off-worlders because Beth,” Vanessa gestured, “stated that the government once they left the atmosphere is investigating atmospheric hoaxes. Soooo,” she let the words drift from her lips giving Beth and Menn a minute to process what she was saying and come up with a response. Whether it was the truth or a lie didn’t really matter to her. Both would give Vanessa insights into the Messi mindset.

“So why is there no hub bub with our arrival right out here in the open? I mean there has not been one pause, eye blink, peppering of questions, or sound of security rolling up on us? I get that you and Menn here might have been expecting us but,” Vanessa gestured around her, “if we are your first alien visitors why is everyone so damn calm especially when Captain Marius has just pointed out you were rubber-stamped for domination by another race? So I gotta ask, for the record because it makes the difference in a whole lotta paperwork are you saying your stance is that we are the very first official alien that has ever dropped out of space and set foot on your planet?”

Vanessa Slade CNS

Thomas remained standing straight-faced, though internally he wanted to facepalm. And leave, definitely leave, and turn this whole mess over to the Diplomatic Corps. First Contact missions weren’t supposed to be this complicated, were they? This was entering Second Contact Shenanigans territory…

COS

“These outworlders are called Lesscoo?” Menn asked.

“What domination?” interjected Beth with passion. “You mean they want to take over our planet and make us their slaves? We thought that only those who are more civilised could have advanced in their technology. We, in our planet, have gone through such patterns of conflict before. There is still rivalry, I know, but to conquer and enslave? How uncivilised are these people?!” she said in frustration and fear.

Menn glared at Beth but she ignored him. Menn then said, “How do you know their intentions? My continent would definitely analyse the situation before we act. Would diplomacy work? How much devastation would there be if we resisted? Would our whole race be wiped out if we resisted? We basically would rather not be dominated, but to see our people decimated would be quite another matter.”
