=/\=Access denied=/\= the computer’s tinny voice replied. =/\=Simulation is not complete until all life forms have been neutralized.=/\= Next to the timer a counter appeared. With each crewman being pulled off into the bushes, a number was taken away. It did not take a genius to see it was counting down the removal of the crew.

=^= Define neutralized =^= Deeg replied with some growing anxiety. In a game neutralized referred to anything from being taken out of play by way of many factors, most of which did not include the ‘military’ definition.

=/\=Neutralized. A condition where something is rendered ineffective or harmless by applying an opposite force or effect=/\= The computer replied back in a calm tone.

Dagen wanted to do a face palm and shake his head but felt he needed all his senses. Whatever happened to predictive AI speaking in context?

He was still hoping this was a program whose creator got carried away. Safeties were in place for a reason. Safeties .. =^= Computer, what is the status of holodeck safety protocols in this program simulation? =^=

=/\=For the purpose of the simulation, safeties are no longer activated to ensure a valid result of skills and intelligence. Upon neutralization, the participants will be removed from the simulation.=/\=

No safeties. In any normal regular sense this would mean there was a risk of injuring oneself with a sporting activity or a trip fall. With ghouls and skeletons and whatever else came out of this - zombie apocalypse? What did that mean? =^= Removed from the simulation. Do they still have life signs? And who receives the results of the skills and intelligence test? =^=

He turned to the Counselor. “A valid result of skills and intelligence?”

“Jesus,” Calvin blurted out feeling the bat suction to his chest. While he was not scared of a holographic bat, the way Vanessa not only abandoned but trapped him with the leathery winged flying rat was a bit jarring. “Seriously Slade,” he barked out as he pulled the sheet over his head trapping the bat in the fabric. Tossing it to the side he looked at the counselor breathing heavy.

As Deeg, Bat, Sebastian, and Angel stood looking into the bushed, a skeletal hand emerged from the bushed clasping the wrist of Deeg. While the holodeck strived for realism, there were safety protocols that prevented obvious injuries. The long scratches however as the hand began to pull the man into the densely packed bushed were felt. They stung and left long red streaks on his arm as the red welts soon began to produce a thin line of blood as the nails moved over Deeg’s arm. Without help, Deeg would get pulled into the bushes.

Holodeck AI

“Yikes!” Deeg cried out as the skeletal hand clutched at him and with more strength than he thought was pulling him in. “Hey, what?!” he added as his arm was in his mind becoming more gouged. Sebastian grabbed his other arm and pulled while Angel gripped him around the waist and pulled with her Vulcan strength. Bat, on the other hand swung his oversized cross/stake at the skeletal arm below the elbow.
“I’ll get it!” Bat shouted, swinging at the skeleton while keeping out of reach of others.

The cross impacted the arm allowing an echoing crunch to fill the space. The arm now held onto Deeg at a weird angel but did nothing to loosen the grip as would be expected from a sentient being. It was as if the being did not feel pain but experienced the effects. It’s grip held firm like a vice.

Angel pulled Deeg over to put his arm on the end of a stump. “Batter the bones here,” she said to Bat. That will remove any tensile strength it may inherently have.
“Move you finger then,” Bat said, taking aim.
Deeg, clenching his teeth, said, “Just hit it. I’m not worried about a little skeleton. We could till have werewolves and vampires to deal with. And I’ll bet that nobody has a Van Helsing automatic crossbow with silver tipped arrows hidden on their persons I’ll imagine.”
Bat beat at the bones taking as much care as he could to not hit Deeg ..

“Mind the arm!” Deeg said, “Ouch! That hurts!”
“If you stop squirming we may be able to pull you out with greater efficiency,” Angel said with a small grunt.
“Don’t be a sissie,” Bat said.
Sebastian pulled at Deeg, “If this is like an old style dungeon crawl video campaign game .. we’ll need gear and weapons.”
“This … is .. not .. a game!” Deeg said, finally wrenching free and everyone stumbling back a step with Deeg nursing his arm.

As if by request, a pile of middle ages type weapons appeared: cross bows, maces, clubs, swords, and spears. There were not modern day projectile weapons like guns or riffles but there seemed to be a neverending supply of arrows.

OOC: Awww .. and Dagen was about to call up for shotguns! <G>

Sebastian went ‘whoa’ as they appeared. “Deeg, your wish may have been answered.” He moved to the pile and picked up a mace. “Heavy,” he said.

“That’ll leave a mark,” Bat said helpfully.

Dagen, Deeg et all ..

“Okay I did not do this,” Vanessa said looking up at the engineering chief. “I did not even get creative with the programming. I Gaggled holodeck Halloween programs in the Starfleet database. I found one I liked and downloaded it. I never got a warning and if it was corrupted wouldn’t the ships computer have flagged it?”

Grabbing a piece of Casper’s costume, she ripped off a large swath of material. Grabbing a bottle of alcohol, she moved over to Deeg’s hand. “I am so sorry this happened to you. I thought we were going to bob for apples not need rabie shots,” Vanessa grimaced.

While Vanessa was tending to Deeg’s hand and wrapping the bandage around it, the available space around them was slowly being surrounded by the ever encroaching beings from the bushes. In the far corner was a tractor with a bed of hay which probably was destined to be for a hay ride instead of an escape vehicle however if someone could drive the old gasoline engine, it would be a way to escape with the twenty odd people in the group.

Dagen heard the faint sound of a transport and saw the weapons pile. And the encroaching beings. They were three and immediate but where had Reia been taken to? Was she already neutralized? A rather cold lump formed in his stomach that was not Thor. Chaos had to be made to order. He leaped up onto a table that was supposed to have food on it he supposed but that was rather sparse. Kicking over a bowl of something that looked like chips he called out. “Right. Everyone. To me!” He waved and shouted to get their attention before adding, “There! A pile of weapons. Take what you can use and form up here. Quickly!”

To Sebastian he said, “Good thinking. No torches?”
“Deeg, how are you?” he asked as his arm was tended to.
“About as good as anyone who was getting raked by a skeleton.” Deeg totally had nothing to say in reply to that. To Vanessa he said, “Just so long as at the end of this I still see my reflection in the mirror. I detest night shifts.”

It had been a long time since Calvin was in an ambush that was not diplomatic in nature; however, it took only half a heartbeat for his Marine instincts to kick in. Reaching down he picked up a Mace and tested it out in his hand for balance before reaching out and grabbing Vanessa’s elbow.

“What the hell are you gonna do with that ball and chain thing? Whack your way out of this,” Vanessa said

“That is exactly what I am going to do with this,” he replied pulling her closer as his eyes surveyed the landscape for a point of exit.

Seeing the tractor in the corner, Calvin judged the distance and did the mental math. “Anyone know how to drive that thing,” he asked the group.

Calvin Marius

Bat picked up a crossbow. “Not sure how much good this is going to be against a skeleton or dead thing.” Still he kept it and a quiver of bolts that he hoped were effective. Angel, on the other hand picked up a club like mace. With her Vulcan strength she wielded it easily even though it looked heavy. Sebastian opted for a spear while Deeg opted for a sword - something he could use in his one good hand.

Out of the group of engineers were mutters of ‘I studied internal combustion engines’ and ‘put a model of it together’ and ‘what’s THAT?!’ came one voice that was perhaps the most unlikely. Bat held up his hand. “I can.”
“What? Farmer Bat?” Deeg said, surprised.
Bat shrugged. “Hey, Worked at a theme park during my summers. Had hay rides and farming. Quite relaxing you know, once you get past the noise.”
