NE Kowalski entered the transporter room bearing a frown. His lean darker complexioned features were framed by a trimmed goatee on the bottom and slick black hair atop. The transporter chief, a CPO Porter if he remembered right, was bent over the controls. His movements seemed to be jerky, not smooth. He was nervous. Well so was Kowalski.

“Where are we at?” Kowalski asked.
“Diagnostic is underway. Level 3 diagnostic came up with no system errors that I could see. Level 1 should give more but it will take a little time to run through it.” Kowalski nodded; he knew that but saying that was unhelpful.
“Good. What about memory buffer analysis and transporter traces? Could the beam have been intercepted?”
Porter frowned. “To cherry pick people out of a transporter beam and leave the spanner behind? That would take some doing unless it was pre-programmed.” He looked suspiciously at the system. “That would mean …” he began.
“Trouble.” Kowalski finished for him. “Let’s look at that too, starting with the logs you have on traces and memory buffer. You start there. I’ll run a report on any transporter use or system alterations or even maintenance on it in the last .. while.” How far does he go back?” Frowning he went to a console at the wall and began to run a event report on the transporters for the last month.

OOC: More bump :) .. Gene
OOC: Bump for Engineer Kylie .. Gene

Kylie swiftly walked into the room. She looked between them both and then walked over to the pannel with them. “I was sent to help aid in the investigation on the pattern buffer, and to see if it was a phasing issue as well.” She said as she joined them.

Kowalski turned toward Kylie. His features were pockmarked with a dark complexion, a distinct mustache bisecting his face. “I’m Leon,” he said. “You said phasing?” He tugged at an invisible goatee, thinking. Porter turned his head about and grunted out a ‘mm’. “Would there be a way of detecting a phase shift in a transporter effect?” he asked. “On another tack, the transporter effect left the spanner in sickbay at the end of the transport, but the transporter effect took both the Chief and Bailey and they didn’t materialize there. We are thinking that this must have been a programmed thing, which means trouble. Or .. can you think of something else that would cause that which we can explore?”

=/\=Understood but what can you tell me about what you have learned so far. Mr. Thor is in sickbay but you have not recovered Bailey yet correct? Kowalski have you locked into the logs for the tracer and the memory=/\=

Kowalski made a face that looked like he had taken a sip of too bitter coffee. =^= TC Porter is examining the logs. Initial diagnostic showed no system errors. We are searching for any transporter intercepts that may have altered their destination. =^= He glanced at Brecker. =^= We are also examining a possible phase shift, in whether the malfunctioning spanner interacted negatively with the transporter in some way. As well we are looking at maintenance logs and transporter adjustments, PM or otherwise. =^=
NE Kowalski

Kylie frowned and looked thoughtful. “I’m no expert on transporter theory… but the spanner was malfunctioning, I wonder if it is still doing so? My question would relate to the device itself. What I would think that if the malfunction was resulted by somehow an overcharge in the device, when the molecular disassembly happened, it could have potentially overcharged the system or discharged the excess charge during the port and caused a molecular spread that could induce a phase shift. There was no determinable errors on the system part, so I would think that it had to be an error in matter disassembly and reassembly… Biological and organic matters are a lot more delicate than nonbiological or nonorganic… Could we have a feed of a video playback, played in here? I would think that if there was an issue with the initial phasing, and if something odd would happen, there may be a visual cue that uh…” She looked towards Porter and gave a somewhat apologetic look. “I’m sorry I don’t know your name. But I would think in dealing with the transporters most, you would have the best chance in noticing anything odd happening during the dematerialization.”
Ensign Kylie Brecker, Engineer

“Well it can’t hurt,” the man replied to Kylie. Bringing up the playback, he looked at feed with Kylie. Nothing seemed out of place except that a transport was initiated without request.and the destination only contained the materials the people were holding and not the people.

Kylie sighed softly as the transport chief told her that he didn’t see anything unusual. “Can we take their phaze signature and use the sensors to search to see if we find any traces of them if they were spread to space?” She asked as she went back to brainstorming, she full well knew they had already checked the phase buffer. So she went to a new theory, that they may be displaced out of phase somewhere out in space.

Complying with Kylie’s request the transporter chief wore a perplexed expression a second later. “Ensign Brecker,” the chief called out waving her over to his console.

Kylie quickly walked over and looked at the console screen. After a moment her face seems to match the transport chiefs.

“Okay are you seeing what I am seeing,” he asked.

She nodded. “Yes… but how is that possible?”

The sensors showed a unique phaser signature just like Kylie suggested. It was overlooked because the main signature ended in sickbay but there was a secondary one. It was faint but appeared to not only be outside of the ship but part of an ion trail as if from a ship.

GM

“Is there any way we can trace that to any degree of certanty to pinpoint direction and point of origin?” Kylie reached up and tapped her combadge.

=^= Ensign Brecker to the Bridge=^=

She paused waiting on a acknowledgement from someone.

=^=Are there any other ships that we can detect within sensor rage? We think that we have figured out what has happened to the Chief and Ensign Bailey. Though the answer leaves us stumpted. It seems as they were about to be transported to medbay, there was a secondary transporter signature that locked on and took them. This signature originated from outside the ship as best we can tell at this moment. We are doing what we can from here to try and determine it’s origin.=^=
