Marius after about an hour of revelry came to a small podium at one end of the wooden planks laid into a large square, which had been the site of many holographic Hawaiians dancing native dances, some with fire others being a luxurious hula. In either case the dancers were quite entertaining.

“I’d like to thank you all for our first successful mission with me as the commanding officer. It is quite pleasing to me that we rescued hostages, introduced a new species to the Federation, and perhaps most importantly, didn’t lose a single crew-member.” He paused, looking out at the assembled crew. ”

As soon as Sage heard his voice, she turned from the bar where she’d found a stool and a much better drink. Sipping a vodka rocks with a twist of orange, she settled in to hear Calvin’s announcements.

“It was also the first mission for our intrepid first officer…” He looked about the crowd… “Mr Pétursson, If you’d like… a few words.”

Magnus smiled and took a few steps forward and face the crew “Thank you, Sir.” He turned his head briefly to the Captain to address him before returning his gaze to the crew. “Well, this has been an interesting experience, seeing you all in action. You are all exemplary officers and I hope to live by the examples you’ve shown me” He then took a few steps back allowing the Captain to continue on.

He smiled, “Thank you X. Now for what you all have been waiting for.” He held up a little box, that everyone recognized as the container that carried the pips that were affixed to collars indicating rank. “Promotions.”

“With the permission and under the direction of the Department of Advancement, United Federation of Planets, Star-Fleet. The following officers are hereby and effective immediately promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade with all honors, duties, and responsibilities so indicated. Marius said a couple of names before reaching, The officers formerly known as Ensign Reia Shandy and Ensign Tigress, Congratulations Lieutenant Junior Grade.” He reached out with the box. .

Dagen was standing by Reia when this announcement came. He had watched the officers position themselves so figured something was coming and he was right. As he heard Reia’s name mentioned he grinned and gave her hand a squeeze. “Totally deserved, love,” Dagen said, letting go of her hand and positioning it at the small of her back to give her a small push forward.
Dagen

Reia stepped forward and took the new pip. She looked down at her completely bare shoulders, and up at the Captain to smile shyly.

“Perhaps, we can find another time to pin those on.” Marius smiled. “Of course, if you’d like.. I can wave the uniform code for tonight that preclude wearing rank insignia on unofficial outerwear.” He remembered each and every promotion he ever received and waiting to put the pips on wasn’t something he ever liked delaying.

“It is my honor to call the Genesis my home.” she said.

Reia could have used this time and place to announce her upcoming wedding but it would have been impolite to overshadow Tigress in such an obvious way when her pheromones might already be doing that in the first place.

  • Reia

Tigeress just started wide eyed at first. “Did I here that right” she thought. How she remanded in the lab how had she qualified to be a Lieutenant JG. She very quickly became aware the attention of the crow was on her after Reia reduced her rank insignia.

Tigeress ears flattened and she stepped behind Ben. It was not that she was not happy to be premeditated she just did not like the attention. She wished she was invisible. With some encouragement from Ben she finally approached the captain. Her ears remanded pined back and her gaze cast about.

“T-Thank you Caption.” She said quietly. It was very clear that Tigeress was way out of her confert Zone.

He continued with a smile, “with the permission and under the direction of the Department of Advancement, United Federation of Planets, Star-Fleet. The following officers are hereby and effective immediately promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with all honors, duties, and responsibilities so indicated. Marius said a couple of names before reaching, The officers formerly known as Lieutenant Junior Grade Ben Park, Congratulations Lieutenant.” He reached out with the box.

Sage popped a peanut into her mouth and chewed thoughtfully. She believed Cal was being very generous with the promotions. It hadn’t been quite so when Captain Kind led the Genesis crew.

(Park comments)
Thomas clapped loudly for Park. The young man still needed a bit of refinement, in his opinion, but no one could question his work ethic.

“We aren’t done yet,” Marius continued sounding a little like a salesman on QVC. “Perhaps the largest group of promotions.... with the permission and under the direction of the Department of Advancement, United Federation of Planets, Star-Fleet. The following officers are hereby and effective immediately promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commanders with all honors, duties, and responsibilities so indicated. The officers formerly known as Lieutenant Sage Brennan, Chan, Tom Jarvis, Thomas McGregor, David Michaels, and Dagen Thor. Congratulations Lieutenant Commanders.”

Thomas blinked quietly for a moment as he processed the news, before getting to his feet and making for the Captain.

Lt. Commander by age 30? And even after blowing up his own ship? He wondered if somebody in the promotions office had been in a really good mood the day Marius had sent his list in…

Sage was quick to recover when she almost spit a mouthful of drink at the sound of her name. A promotion? After all these years? But wait…he called six names, right? SIX people were being promoted to LtCmdr? Six people plus the XO made seven. The micro-second of happiness at the thought of finally moving up the ladder flattened out into disappointment. It wasn’t the kind of promotion she’d wanted. Sighing with disappointment, she rose from the stool, took a last gulp from the hi-ball glass and headed to the podium to accept the pips along with all the others.

That caught Dagen off guard. He didn’t expect that as he figured he had a black star by his name when it came to promotions past Lt. What? he thought thinking he had heard wrong, but knowing he had indeed heard it.

Normally Tom didn’t care about promotion parties. Being one hardly anyone remembered promotions in these setting were so rare they were nonexistent. Tom was turned looking for a nearby food server, his tangerine infused water was at his lips when his name was called. Tom sputtered, choked, and spit as he was taken by surprise, his water going all over the hapless soul standing in front of him. That hapless souls just happened to be Reia. Him facing away form the stage, her facing towards it. The considerable spray of water soaked the top of her delicate translucent dress making it go sheer. Tom hesitated at the sight a moment before collecting himself. Something about her was making his head buzz and it took him a moment to remember her half Orion heritage.

“My apologies.” he said grabbing a towel off a passing server and holding it open in front of Reia blocking his own view, “My promotion surprised me.” he said sheepishly waiting for her to take the towel.

He rather missed at first Tom’s showering of Reia. His first reaction was to react and, indeed he nearly did so, balling his fist around the small bottle. The only thing that saved any more of a reaction was his very immediate recollection of the past memory of his being promoted and losing that by a similar incident. That caught him up short and instead snatched the towel from Tom. He had a more scathing retort, though his look was such that he couldn’t let it out. “I know what you mean,” he said tightly. Facing away from the podium and instead facing Reia he missed the next part.

Reia appreciated the gesture of Dagen handing her the towel but if it was meant to cover her, it only succeeded in showing her off even more by removing the obstructing towel. Taking the towel in her free hand, Reia attempted to wrap it around herself but found it more inconvenient that it was worth and though about just going to change her clothes. This, of course, lead to a very interesting idea.

“Thank you gentlemen. You’ve helped more than you realize.

He reached out with one hand stopping Sage before she could leave the podium. “I know we all have felt the loss of our former Counselor and second officer. I like a moment of remembrance for Riley Dekker. I want you all to remember him, because he was kidnapped, not lost, and our first mission is to get him back. I will not forget that… and I expect none of you to either.”

After a pause that was far longer than a moment. “However as we continue to strive forward we look to establish the structure to continue our mission. With the assent and agreement of Star-Fleet and the XO, we are designating Lieutenant Commander, Doctor Brennan as Second Officer.”

CO

Okay, now THAT was a surprise she had never even contemplated. Standing next to Cal with her mouth open in a little “O”, sarong wrapped tightly around her body, Sage suddenly felt exposed. A roomful of eyes settled on her, some exuding congratulations to her but many others wondering if she had what it took to lead them.

She looked over at her husband and questioned him quietly. “Are you serious?”

“I know I’m known intergalactically for my sense of humor and whimsy. But I assure, that I am serious.” Marius responded. He shook the box, “You can always decline.”

“You know me better than that, Captain.” She allowed herself a small smile at the immediate thought of her in the big chair, but then the business of the festivities demanded her attention once again.

—Sage

From where he stood nearby, David reached over and gave Sage’s arm a gentle squeeze in congratulations.

Reia smiled beaming with pride. Lt’ Cdr Dagen Thor. Her husband to be. Her mind was spinning. Now she had to catch the Captain’s eye.

  • Reia

Her expression even having been sprayed was enough to melt him. Gently placing the towel in her free hand he pushed a smile into his eyes before turning to Tom.

Between the promotion and the water scene with Reia, Tom didn’t know if he was supposed to say something or if he could duck out.

  • Tom

Clapping his back Dagen said, “Let’s get up there before they think we’ve fainted.

Reaching the podium Dagen was happy he had a shirt on that could handle the pips. He was getting thinking he didn’t want to be away from Reia for too long though.
Dagen

Marius finally had a uniform. He took the pip out of the box and started to place it on Dagen’s collar before pausing. “Unless you’d rather have someone else put it on you for the first time?”

Admittedly the Trill had no clue what the Captain was saying and a flash of confusion passed over his face. As sociable as Dagen was, and as experienced as he was inasmuch as he carried lifetimes with him, he could still navigate only so much. Expecting tradition and formality the question threw him; admittedly he had other things on his mind. j”Uhhh ..” he began, bringing his mind back to the now.

Reia didn’t even wait for Dagen to reply. She tossed the towel to a server and stepped onto the stage and took the pips from Captain Marius.

Rescued a moment later by Reia he ‘caught’ the drift and turned just a little to better face her and aware of a great number of eyes on them. There were a number about them - there were a lot of new Lt Commanders there about the podium. Sage, of all of them, looked the most surprised. Tom bore the expression that he had been regifted something. He was happy for Chan and gave her a thumbs up before bringing his attention back to Reia.

Smiling, she gently placed them on Dagen’s collar, “My congratulations Lieutenant Commander Dagen Thor but, if Captain Marius would indulge us with one more thing this evening…”

Aware of the eyes on this rather non traditional but still touching moment he kept his gaze on Reia. He felt warm, unaccustomed to the attention and feeling each brush of a knuckle or press of a finger at his collar. As surprising as it was, he still felt good, but a blush formed as Reia found that moment to address the Captain where they couldn’t quite get to earlier.

She paused and caught the Captain’s eyes for several heartbeats before turning back and slowly kneeling before Dagen, both hands clasping his right hand.

He too turned to the Captain but then was surprised when he felt Reia kneel. Was she well? Was she fainting? Granted that was an unlikely scenario in anything he knew of her and was dismissed almost at once. His eyes bore the universal male ‘what ARE you doing?’ question when their lady was doing something completely unexpected.

As the CMO, Sage watched Reia lower herself and was immediately ready to step in if it was a medical situation, but the half Orion surprised everyone.

“I promised you a long and complicated engagement. I should have said a long and complicated life. Marry me. Right here, right now. Well in fifteen minutes after a wardrobe change.” Reia asked calmly, clearly, and with more confidence than she thought she could feel at that moment.

He blinked and went slightly pale, even more so than he normally was. It was not as much an afraid of the moment but an embarrassed concern that they just upstaged everyone else there. Then thought ‘what the hell’. They would have something different to say to their own relatives and friends. Thor poked him with a slight jolt to the kidney to bring him out of his paralysis. Here? Now? As much another range of panic shot through him so did come an upsurge of his more youthful dare taking. “Of course, but must we wait that long?”

Her diamond eyes looked up into Dagen’s as she waited for his answer.

  • Reia

He glanced to the Captain, half expecting him to want his pips back …
Dagen

Marius just threw his hands up, “I’m just happy neither or you are Betazeds and I don’t have to get naked.”

Dagen didn’t see the sour look pass momentarily over Tom’s face before he turned around to follow Dagen up. This was Tom’s third time attaining this rank and he wondered how long it would be before someone forgot and dropped his rank again.

Tom followed Dagen to the podium still unsure if the timing was appropriate.

Tom

Marius quipped to Tom as he handed him the box, “I bet you thought I’d forget you.”

Marius

“Well it is the normal order of the universe where I’m concerned.” Tom said flatly, “But I do appreciate that you made the effort. Thank you.” Tom finished quietly.

Magnus leaned near Tom and Marius “A good thing about using a Holodeck for this is that we can record this and have it ping up in the system later on” He took out a small note from his pocket and scribbled something down quickly “But it never hurts to be safe” He said with a smile.

XO

Tom considered the personal EM cloak he always kept on him. If he used it, It wouldn’t do anything to the recordings except make tom an unidentifiable blur and distort his voice beyond recognition.

Or maybe he could take the opportunity, while everyone was distracted with the wedding proceedings, to slip away unnoticed and, shortly after, forgotten.

  • Tom

Thomas waited his turn, observing the impromptu wedding planning with a small, almost uncharacteristic, smirk.

COS

David was also standing near Thomas, and it seems the entire business of promotions had been overshadowed by the surprise events playing out. He half considered just making an exit, but he stood where he was, all decked out in his Hawaiian garb, waiting.

Marius

Reia carefully rose to her feet, both hands still clinging to Dagen’s. Perhaps she was feeling too brave for her own good as she turned to the Captain and smiled.

“But sir, you never asked what kind of ceremony I wanted?”

Pausing, she threw her head back and laughed for several seconds before stopping and taking on a bit more of a serious affect.

“No, actually, absolutely not sir. No Betazoid ceremony.” she said.

Turning back to Dagen, “But I would like that wardrobe change.”, she leaned in close and whispered in his ear, “Is fifteen minutes really that long to wait?”

Stepping back, she let go of his hand and turned to walk away.

  • Reia

When Reia stepped away he gave an expression to the others that could easily have been a ‘sorry for stealing any thunder’. Shuffling his bare feet he thought that losing his flip flops earlier was not likely a good thing now. Turning to the Captain and those around him, he said in an effort to lighten the mood, “I hope this isn’t the equivalent of being left at the altar.”

He turned to Tom and David who where there. “Thor has been through this before,” he said. “Tradition seems to hold through many cultures, even Trill, of having friends stand up for them. While I don’t know you both well enough to my shame, would you give me the honor?”

Then he looked to the Captain, “Sir, if there is any other business you need to do, we could move over to the side.”
- Dagen

Ben smiled at the newly ranked Lieutenant Tigress as they both got promoted. Turning to Tigress “you know the Captain may look all serious, but I’ve known him long enough to know that he’s a gentle giant.” He said that loud enough so that the Captain could hear him.

Lt. Ben Park

Tigeress did not respond other then to nods agrement. In her left hand she held the box with her rank insignia. Her let hand held Ben’s arm tight. It was a moment befor she spoke. “ Ben can we get out of the middle of this crowd. I-I need a minute” she said. She did not like pulling Ben away from his friends but she needed a moment.
