NE Wore (pronounced Wo-ray) was from Coridan and did not like the large parties that Starfleet ships seemed to enjoy. Wore had studied hard to get out of Coridan and was not about to explain why he decided to join Starlfeet. He loathed that topic. He did not like what it was like at home. He could not wait to leave it. Everything on Coridan was about dilithium. There was more to the universe than just dilithium. Wore wanted to know more about the universe. The best way was to get into Starfleet Academy and become a crew member of a starship. So it was with great enthusiasm that he faced his first assignment on the Genesis. When he heard the Genesis was going to explore uncharted space, he was even more excited.

Wore slipped away from the party after seeing his chief get his promotion and then made his way to the Science Labs. Lab 16 was just two decks from the party and it was usually private. He linked his station to the bridge sensors and began to look at the sensor data. Most people would look at the endless data that showed minute dust particles in a sea of emptiness as boring. However, Wore learned patience when he was on Coridan. Waiting for the right moment to tell his parents of his plans was not easy, but it paid off. They were convinced of his eagerness to improve, even if it meant that his younger siblings would eventually take over the small mine that his father had and he would not have anything. He also learned at the Academy that persistent study and patiently looking at endless data would eventually give a result. So he sat in Lab 16, looking at the endless data from the sensors, waiting for a blip, a change in what the sensors detected before beginning analysis. It was going to be a long day but NE Wore did not mind.

Wore noticed a ‘blip’ in the sensor data. Didn’t the bridge science station notice the change in data? What were they doing up there? He punched in the data and began to analyse the blip. It was a small indication but it was still significant. There was sentient life in the nebula!

GM

It took several hours for NE Wore to confirm his findings. Realising that his Chief would probably be at the party and that the nebula was still more than half a day away, he wrote a report instead of using his commbadge:

Report to Chief Science Officer
According to the analysis of data received (data attachment) from the sensors regarding a nebula ahead, there is a 87% probability that there is life somewhere in the nebula. Recommendation: To send a probe into the nebula ahead of time so that we may be able to understand who we would encounter as we approach the nebula. The sensor information may be erroneous due to the gases found in the nebula but I believe that we should be safe rather than sorry.

Wore typed ‘Send’ and tried to keep calm. He was very excited indeed.

OOC: I understand that James is on LOA. I hope he picks this up when he returns. :)

OOC: Just coming back from my extended LOA and trying to catch up. Would this be happening at the same time as the party is taking place? Also, wasn’t a yellow alert issued on the bridge, wouldn’t that summon David there? I want to know where to best jump in.
-James

OOC: You’re right. That’s the best place to jump in. At the science station, you could spot the data that NE Wore left you and then I can then develop the scenario from there as well.
