“I’ve got the probe ready to go sir,” David announced. “Also my science team has been analyzing the data we have thus far and we suspect this creature may come from a nearby planet as an egg of sorts. When the planet was destroyed by the supernova the creature may have hatched and now requires large amounts of energy for growth.

As they got closer to the creature, an alert sound came up. Ops panel showed the the pulsar’s energy pulses are interfering with the ship’s systems. Tactical station showed that the shields are now down to 40%. As the circuits were now reacting to the energy of the pulsar, the sensors reliability have reduced another 30%.

GM

“What the Hell?” Thomas murmured to himself as the shields took a massive hit. “Sir, those pulses have our shields down to 40 percent. I think we may need to back off.”

COS

Magnus checked his chairs panel “Damage Report” He asked the other Bridge Officers.

XO

“Reverse course, one quarter impulse power.... back off… back off.” Marius instinctively waved his hand back as if he could swim the ship personally. “Operations, shield modulations.”

“Mr. Michaels… analysis.”

Marius CO

“I’ll have more information when we launch the probe,” David said, looking at the sensor data coming in. “Sensor functionality has been effected sir, so I can’t be entirely certain, but I recommend keeping our distance.”
-David Michaels, CSO

On the comms at the engineering station Dagen came through. =^= Thor to Chan. What’s going on up there? What hit us? =^=
- Thor

Ben finally spoke up “I concur with Commander Michaels Captain. Another hit like that and shields would be gone.”

Lt. Park, Tactical

Magnus gave the Science chief a nod “I recommend we launch the probe as we back away, with reduced sensor capabilities we’ll need a new set of eyes.” He told the Captain, his tone calm and analytical.

XO

“Go ahead.” He nodded towards Magnus. “Divert warp power to the shields.” He looked at the range meter.

David entered the commands into the computer and launched the probe.

“Red Alert. Are we being scanned?” He looked at Michaels, “If not arm the photon torpedoes.” He didn’t want to shoot, but he wasn’t about to just let the Genesis be destroyed.

Marius CO

The sensors did not detect anything that said that they were being scanned.

“I’m not getting any indications that we are being scanned,” David said.

There was no damage to the hull. According to the analysis by the computer, the energy pulses from the pulsar were actually interfering with the shield harmonics. While there was no damage to the shield emitters, their shields were only at 40% compared to when the ship was at the edge of the nebula. The efficiency of the shields began to erode the moment they entered into a distance of nebula, The significant erosion of the shields came when they were about 1.2 billion kilometres from the pulsar. At the moment they were 900 million kilometres from the pulsar.

As the ship moved back, their shields returned to normal., and they were about 1.5 billion kilometres from the pulsar and it would take slightly more than 4 hours to reach it at full impulse.

The probe was able to send data through subspace frequencies, which were not affected by the pulsar’s radiation energy. The data sent back suggested the the creature was going through changes within its cocoon of rock.

GM

“It appears that the creature is going through some sort of metamorphosis from within the rock,” David announced. He figured that now would be as good a time as any to bring in the new Xenobiologist he had met earlier. He tapped his comm badge =/\= Lt Commander Michaels to Lt DeNaris, please report to the Bridge =/\=

-David Michaels, CSO

Siobhan had been in the science lab analyzing the data and had actually been halfway to the bridge when the summons came. =^=On my way, Sir.=^= Came the response.

A couple moments later, the fire haired woman stepped onto the bridge. Her face was a look of both surprise and eagerness, like a child on birthing day getting more gifts than she could imagine. She came straight to the Science Chief. “It’s feeding on us, somehow. I just can’t see how,” she said as she came closer to him. As she glanced at a nearby console, she frowned. “It’s affecting the shields?” She looked him as her excitement turned to concern.
