A couple moments later, the fire haired woman stepped onto the bridge. Her face was a look of both surprise and eagerness, like a child on birthing day getting more gifts than she could imagine. She came straight to the Science Chief. “It’s feeding on us, somehow. I just can’t see how,” she said as she came closer to him. As she glanced at a nearby console, she frowned. “It’s affecting the shields?” She looked him as her excitement turned to concern.

David nodded. “That is correct.”

As they backed away and the shields returned to normal, she shook her head. “Well that changes things. I thought it was the creature causing the issues. Apparently it was the nebula, itself.” She wasn’t sure, now, what the creature was feeding on. But something told her that it was different because the pulsar wasn’t acting like the ones she had previously studied.

(part of the cut n paste didn’t stick lol)

“If the creature was not what affected our shields then I recommend we stand down red alert” He said to the captain “We can monitor the metamorphosis from a safe distance, I think this one’s for the books.” he smiled “Who knows, maybe that’s the Legendary Great Bird of the Galaxy”

XO

Marius nodded to the Commander. “Put the weapons back on standby.” He took a deep breathe releasing the tension. “Is someone filming this? We definitely will get a paper out of it.

Marius

Magnus nodded “Stand down red alert” He called out.

Siobhan glanced towards the XO. “The Great Bird of the Galaxy? Surely you don’t believe such things. I mean, no bird could survive in this environment. And my guess, whatever is in the nebula isn’t something anyone has come across before. If they had, there would certainly have been record or it. Or the very least, a beacon left in the vicinity. And I am guessing a sweep of the area found no such object?” She wasn’t sure where such rumors came from. Surely, on Earth, deep sea stories were because of actual creatures no one could explain. But in space? It seemed extremely ridiculous to her scientific mind.

David let out a soft chuckle. The new scientist was certainly being colorful on her first trip to the Bridge, likely her first interactions between the Captain and First Officer.

Ben had pressed on the panel for recording in real time. “We’re recording on the view screen Sir.” Ben looking at Science “how’s it looking on your end Lieutenant DeNaris?”

Lieutenant Park, Tactical/Bridge Officer

The first officer stood up rather quickly and faced the Scientist, a rather smug smile plastered on his face “Come now Lieutenant where’s your sense of wonder, space whales, wormhole alien, intelligent space clouds.” He said with an amused tone “The Great Bird of the Galaxy is as old as space travel, who’s to say it can’t exist?”

XO

Siobhan laughed slightly as she heard the conviction in the XO’s voice. “Of course I would never presume to tell the XO that he was wrong,” she said, inclining her head in respect. “But in this matter, perhaps an agreement to disagree is probably best.” She was trying her best to keep from laughing. Her scientific mind wouldn’t allow for such things as dragons, space birds, or other such silliness. However, she was keenly aware there were things in space that did defy most scientific rules. So while she wouldn’t tell him such things were the stories of children, she knew enough not to completely say they were impossible.

David smirked. “I could tell you if it exists or not,” he said, not overly loudly but not at a whisper either. Those around him would likely hear his quip.

He continued to monitor the readings that were coming in from the probe, as well as the ships own sensors, now that they seemed to be functioning more normally again.

-David Michaels, CSO

Reia had taken her usual back station on the bridge where she could observe all the sensor feeds and the interplay between the crew. It was interesting to see how the newer members interacted with the senior officers and David’s comment did not go unnoticed by her.

It was a long wait. Only after about an hour did the ‘rock’ start to shudder a little. Instead of breaking the rock apart, energy seeped out from the cracks on the rock and coalesce into a blob of energy. They were able to detect the shape of the creature because the pulsar’s energy reacts with it’s inherent energy and the result is a very low level energy release in the visible spectrum.

This blob of energy begins to move away from the pulsar and in a direction that would pass by about 20,000 km from the Genesis. It was apparently leaving the vicinity of the pulsar.

GM

Siobhan spent the hour with the CSO at the science station trying to suss out what exactly the thing was. They knew it wasn’t a base life form as they knew it. It wouldn’t be possible. As the energy began to seep out and coalesce, Siobhan smiled. “Well, maybe now we will get more answers,” she murmured. A bit louder she announced and made sure the view was still on the screen behind her. “Seems to be letting loose an energy mass, Captain.” She turned back to her screen where she could track it and look at it a bit closer with the telemetry on the nearby screen.

Magnus had returned to his seat during the transformation progress, when it started to move he sat forward in his chair “I think we should maintain a safe distance from…” He paused “Well that, seeing as we don’t know what it is or what it can do.”

XO

A call came up from engineering. =^= Thor to bridge. Something for our science crew there. We’ve been looking at the effects of the nebula. Two question for them: One: if we only run nav shields will the nebula negatively affect the ship, and two, can they work out the power and frequency of the pulses to work out a neutralizing pulse through the shield emitters or deflector array to nullify it at a distance? =^=
- Dagen, CE

The creature picked up speed as the call came in. It reached the speed of full impulse about 2 seconds passing by the Genesis. As it left the nebula, the interference of the pulsar diminished and the creature stopped emitting radiant energy within the visible range. However, the sensors were still able to detect it as it was radiating energy that within the range of gamma waves.

OOC: Sorry. I realised that I needed to provide an answer for CE’s question.

IC: The calculation itself was straightforward. The determination of the values of the variable in the equation was a little less easy. Theoretically workable but practically, the Genesis was probably able to reach an average shield strength of 93%.
