Magnus had returned to his seat during the transformation progress, when it started to move he sat forward in his chair “I think we should maintain a safe distance from…” He paused “Well that, seeing as we don’t know what it is or what it can do.”

XO

A call came up from engineering. =^= Thor to bridge. Something for our science crew there. We’ve been looking at the effects of the nebula. Two question for them: One: if we only run nav shields will the nebula negatively affect the ship, and two, can they work out the power and frequency of the pulses to work out a neutralizing pulse through the shield emitters or deflector array to nullify it at a distance? =^=
- Dagen, CE

The creature picked up speed as the call came in. It reached the speed of full impulse about 2 seconds passing by the Genesis. As it left the nebula, the interference of the pulsar diminished and the creature stopped emitting radiant energy within the visible range. However, the sensors were still able to detect it as it was radiating energy that within the range of gamma waves.

OOC: Sorry. I realised that I needed to provide an answer for CE’s question.

IC: The calculation itself was straightforward. The determination of the values of the variable in the equation was a little less easy. Theoretically workable but practically, the Genesis was probably able to reach an average shield strength of 93%.

GM

“The creature has left the nebula,” David announced. “It’s still radiating enough energy that we should be able to track it.” He was simultaneously working out the idea that Dagen had mentioned.

“I think Dagen’s idea is doable,” He said, looking at the calculations. He glanced over towards the Captain and First Officer. The question now would be to follow the creature or explore the nebula further.

-David Michaels, CSO

Reia wondered if they would end up dividing and conquering the situation and tried to work out if she could be of use in either case.

Reia, CIO

“I’m certain we can get our shields upgraded to prevent what the creature had hit us with our first encounter. I’d feel comfortable with following the creature afterwards Captain.”

Lt. Park, BO/Tactical

“I’d like not to wait, Mr. Park.” He didn’t want to wait for the upgrades to come in, for all he knew that creature could cloak and they’d never see it again.

From the trajectory of the creature, they could extrapolate to see where the creature would go. The region that it would travel to had no systems according to the sensors. It was deeper into uncharted territory.

GM

“Set a pursuit course and speed. The nebula isn’t going anywhere.”

Sensors ahead of the creature were clear. “Nobody seems to be in danger right now, we can watch from a safe distance and get all our preliminary work done before we try something more invasive.”

“Mr. Michaels see if we can get our probe out ahead of the creature a light year or so. I want to be sure we don’t run into some unaware ship.” Or worse a few dozen of these creatures who might as a pod find a way to accidentally disable his ship. “And launch a second to map the nebula… might as well get some work done while we are galavanting.”

Marius CO

Thomas followed the discussion with a quiet gaze around the bridge, before just as quietly slinking away to the turbolift when it became clear the critter posed no security risk at the moment.

COS

Siobhan smiled and turned back to her console. She was more than glad they were following the creature . She watched the probe head out towards, and beyond, the creature and watched as the telemetry started to come in of not just it, but the space around it. Was it following a trail of something? Or a ‘smell’, or its equivalent in space? How did the thing know which direction to go? “Captain, permission to set a probe at the nebula for energy reference before we get too far?” She asked, turning to face him. If there was a ‘road’ of some kind this thing was following, perhaps they could read the differences if she had a reference point.

Siobhan
Xenobiologist

Magnus turned to the Xenobiologist as she made her request before returning his attention to the creature itself. Even though this wasn’t his field of expertise it was still extremely interesting, a spaceborn alien entity pulling a butterfly transformation in a nebula, in his mind he was searching for the words to put into his log later on.

XO

The creature was still travelling at sub light speeds at the moment. It was about 1.2 times full impulse.

GM

David had been preparing the second probe, which the computer alerted him was now ready for launch.

“I’ve got another probe set to monitor the nebula sir,” David said. Checking the data from the probe monitoring the creature, he added, “It appears the creature is loving at a spread equivalent to 1.2 times full impulse.”

-David Michaels, CSO

Chan was sitting at the engineering console keeping an eye on he systems. She had heard Dragen but was some what shocked at the creature. However she soon got over it. =^= Chan to Dagen. Apologies for the delay. we’ve encountered a creature of unknown origin. It bumped us as it passed. We’re now following it=^= Chan reported through the com.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

OC: Minor edit

=^= A creature? I hope not an energy sucking planetary sized amoeba like creature. Any surface damage from the .. bump? Residuals? =^= Dagen inquired. His tone sounded intrigued, but cautious.
- Dagen

The creature had increased its speed to two times impulse. The ship’s sensors showed no surface damage as there was no physical contact between the creature and the ship.

GM

Magnus examined the latest readouts from his chair “Have we got any specific information on the creature’s biological makeup? If it has higher, well for lack of a better term, brain functions or if we’re discovering some sort of Space Butterfly?” He asked the Science team
