“I expect we will find food, porn, liquor, music players, hot plates for cooking, paintball guns, sex aids; all the usual contraband hidden in their lockers,” Glen told them. “That’s just what you would expect to find in cadet’s lockers really. We will report it and that will show that we did our job, but somehow, I don’t think that is what Bradbury wanted. So, keep your eyes peeled for anything more unusual, and your ears open for anything suspicious.”

‘’Right ‘’Cross said ‘’I’ll check if their instructor is in his office and try to keep him there’‘ the female doctor winked at both men, she had already taken a few steps before instantaneously turning back ‘’Wait what if the Red Squad instructor is not a male but a female?’‘ she asked, now a bit confused and taken back.

“I’m not actually sure about the ethics of that,” said Glen. “But since you are so keen… just don’t make it quite so obvious. I mean… if it was me, and some older woman, who I’ve never met before, was suddenly flirting, pawing me, or telling me that I’m cute.... well I might be suspicious if it didn’t happen to me all the time! And he might not be attracted to you, or he might be married. It might cause an awkward scene.”

Nkosenye’s jaw tightened slightly but all he said was “We can inspect not only the lockers, but also the various hiding places Cadets seem to think they are the first ones to think of. Vents, mattresses, the head, ceiling tiles…” and then a thought occurred to him. “Captain, what if the Admiral knows there is something amiss, but can’t point it out himself for some reason? That would put us in a difficult position if we do happen upon anything… especially any illicit materials. If the contraband is more serious than what you describe, we will be looking at taking part in a full-scale investigation. Fed Sec could be involved, Captain.”

“If it is more serious, then we hand over the investigation to Fed Sec,” replied Glen. “As for the Commandant… that hadn’t crossed my mind. You think he knows exactly whatever the problem is, but he is being blackmailed by someone not to reveal it? He can’t say anything about it himself, so he asks me to to investigate so that, when found, it doesn’t appear to have come from him? It is a little far-fetched, but it would explain his strange behaviour. And what hold could they possibly have on him that could be used for blackmail? As far as I am aware, he is decorated with and has an unblemished record.”

=/\= Aye sir one second! =/\= Came the reply.

“And Miriam,” Glen said, “Don’t worry about engaging the Instructor just yet. I can see that Mthunzi isn’t keen on the idea either, and if we find contraband in the lockers or hidden away, then we will have a reason to question the Cadets without their Instructor. We’ll also have a reason to question him or her too. Then we can play good cop, bad cop and you can be the nice one.”

‘’Aye Captain’‘ Cross responded while biting the inside of her cheek ‘’What I had in mind was inquiring about doctor Marthese, see she used to work as a doctor at the Academy and probably everyone know her....so I have a reason without raising any red flags and..and perhaps Depp the security who was also stationed here’‘ the CoS had not yet been transferred to the USS Merrimack but Glen would definitely remember ‘’The crew did not trust the doctor but it was Depp who was collaborating with the Harvesters, Ancient or Elders’‘.

The CMO wondered if it was too far fetched and quite honestly she did wish Glen would tell her so.

“Marthese was a doctor working here at the Academy? I didn’t know that,” replied Glen. So, she must have stayed on Earth after Starfleet Medical School rather than go to join a ship. There must be hundreds of cadets passing through Starfleet Academy every year and no instructor would remember them, but they might remember a doctor who was a co-worker. “Well, okay then! You can ask about her… just…act casual. You can be very intense sometimes… …and don’t mention Depp. No one will remember him, and if they did then I doubt they’d remember him very kindly. And don’t go running off to do that just yet as we will need help searching.”

‘’Aye Captain’‘ Cross responded.

“So, we have plan of sorts. Are we ready to do this?” Glen asked.

‘’I’m ready the doctor replied ‘’To search for whatever I’m suppose to be searching for’‘ she finished off with a slight shrug of the shoulders.

A reply finally came back =/\= Captain, Bradbury served mostly planet side on Mars, and Earth for mosts of his career minus a stint as Captain on the USS Venus for 5 years before returning to Earth at the Academy where till recently he was a part of internal investigations before taking over at the Academy. Notes are made it is where he met his wife of almost 9 years now too. She’s a bit younger than him though from the looks of it, quite a looker really! =/\= The Lieutenant replied.

Approaching the hall where red squad bunked things were mostly quiet, evidently the cadets off to whatever classes they had to take care of at the moment.

“It appears we do have the element of surprise that I was looking for,” said Glen. “They have no idea we are coming.”

Nkosenye looked around and said “Captain. I recommend we ‘set the tone’ early. As the Cadets are not here, it is an opportune time to make sure they are off-balance when they arrive. I recommend that we conduct a preliminary search until we find something… anything… that they will be concerned that we found. We then set the contraband in full display of the entrance and allow them to draw their own conclusions about how much trouble they are in. I have found suspects typically imagine far worse punishments than what is actually in store.”

“I like the idea,” replied Glen. “Let’s get to work!”

Cross looked around the room, then at the ceiling and last the floor ‘’Well no boogeyman ..yet .So were do we start? If I had something to hide I sure would not leave it in my locker’‘ the doctor commented....for once waiting for orders.

Maybe she wanted to impress the CoS or else had no idea where to commence .

“Where did you hide things when you were a student doctor?” asked Glen. “You had enough secrets for all of us put together. Think back and then look there! …First, we’ll start with lockers in any case, then we’ll move on to the ceiling tiles and mattresses …and wherever else we can think of.”

Searching through the lockers found surprisingly little contraband. A few small one shooters of booze were here and there but mostly all were still sealed. Another thing found was two examples of test answers on a PADD but an interesting find in one of the senior red squad cadets bunk was a scandalous picture of Bradbury’s wife and the cadet! The signing on the back read ‘To the real man who puts the fire in my bed’. Could it be that Bradbury’s younger wife was having an affair behind his back with a red squad cadet?

Cross was still thinking about what Glen had said to her when she saw the men looking at a picture they seem to have found and curiosity took the better of her as the doctor walked over for a peek ‘’Well, well how about that!’‘ she exclaimed ‘’Tks,tks.....all this for an affair and for the heat he’s providing gets the answers to exams?’‘.

Still Cross knew that things seldom are what they seem ‘’Maybe this locker belongs to a female Cadet and the heat is being provided by the Admiral’‘ she ended up with a giggle at the very thought.

She took a closer look at the open locker ‘’Now if I wanted to hide something it would be behind what one would assume is the back, sides ,up and down ‘’ and with that she tried to check if what seemed to be a solid locker would cause it to shift or cause the slightest movement and then reposition itself.
