Main Sim - Starfleet Academy - Red Squad's Surprise Inspection

Posted May 2, 2019, 3 p.m. by Captain John Tiberius Glen (Captain) (David Fergusson)

[snip]

“What we actually have…” said Glen, and as he said it he found that he sounded a little like those old 20th Century detectives who called all the suspects into a single room to announce which of them was the murderer. “Ahem! All that we have here is a photograph of the Admiral’s wife with some writing in marker pen. Then we have the testimony of a cadet that she ‘loves him.’ I’m not taking this either to the Admiral or Star Fleet Academy Security without something more tangible. Is this even her handwriting? Did she give you the photograph herself? And has there been anything more than sharing photos, as is suggested by what has been written on the photo? You have plenty more to say yet, and I’m in a hurry. I’m not a patient man, so I suggest you get a move on and tell us now.”

Cross rolled her eyes ‘’Captain should you be asking such personal questions,I would assume you are old enough to understand the meaning of ‘‘To the real man who puts the fire in my bed,we’re quite sure it wasn’t some dragon!’‘ then in a low tone directed her words towards the Cadet ‘’Just one word dear ,the wife’s admiral? The admiral himself? Or someone else?’‘ .

The doctor continued ‘’Captain Glen....well he is a strict disciplinarian whose word is law and order ,I’m sure you would not be so enthusiastic about starting the Academy course from scratch’‘ and at this point she did wonder how the Captain,Cmdr or the CoS haden’t yet thrown her out of the open window.

Nkosenye looked at Cross and then at the Cadet and said “Cadet. Fraternization with the spouse or partner of an officer within your chain of command is prohibited. You know this. And you also know that what you are doing is wrong, otherwise you wouldn’t be hiding the picture. Now answer the Captain’s questions. This is serious, Cadet. With implications far from the question of whether or not you continue at the Academy.”

The Captain wasn’t sure that Cross was really helping, and frustrating though the continued silence was, he wanted to give time for Nkosenye’s words to sink in. So, he let Jameson stew on that a little longer and said nothing more. One thing was certain, whatever had actually happened and whoever had created the signed photograph hidden in the locker, Cadet Jameson was finished at the Academy, and they would haul his ass in over some charge.

Cross realized that the others were taking this matter much more serious then she was and decided to zip it up,saying nothing else unless the trio expected her too.

”..Yes, its her handwriting, yes she gave me the photograph and took it herself, and um .....yes its more then just photo sharing. I got nothing else to say sir..” He said

Glen walked away from the Cadet and spoke to his officers. “I think we take the photograph and the Cadet to Starfleet Academy Security and let them deal with it now. They can decide if Jameson is lying and test the handwriting and investigate further. We can’t look into Comms records and such. I think that from his general demeanour he thinks he is telling the truth, and he knows the mess he is in. We’ve done everything that we can here. I’ve made the inspection that the Admiral asked for. I’m sure he knew exactly what we would find, so it will not come as a shock to him, but I will report back to him to confirm it… we have been discreet… we haven’t told the other Cadets. The punishments and sanctions that result are not for us to decide anyhow, so we hand over responsibility now to those that do. Does anyone disagree with that? Does anyone know who is the Academy Master at Arms here?”

Cross nodded in agreement ‘’It looks like he has been framed’‘ she responded back ‘’Can you log in one of the computers to find out who the Academy Master is?’‘.

Glen walked over to the wall Communicator. “It was such good fun when we used to have this system on board the Merrimack. “He tapped the button, then said, “Majel, tell me about the Master at Arms at Starfleet Academy?”

Kord relaxed, not that anybody would notice as his relaxation was mental rather than physical.

Nkosenye looked at the Cadet and then moved next to Glen. “Sir. We can access his comm records, as he is a part of Star Fleet and we have probable cause to initiate such an inquiry. At least I could, without raising any red flags. We can’t access her records, that would fall to Federation Security. But we can tell if the two have been talking. We can also track the Cadet’s movements over the past week or so. I would also suggest interviewing his instructors and any friends. We do not have to say why we are asking; but inquiries as to his emotional state, any changes in personal behavior and the like are not at all uncommon. Most would more than likely assume he is being vetted for his graduation assignment, Sir.”

“Yes, we could do all that,” replied Glen, “If we had the time. I have booked a flight to Paris early tomorrow to see my son. I need this to be finished tonight, and I told the Admiral that when I agreed. I thought you and Cross were going to KwaZulu? I’m sure Kord has made other plans for his time… and it isn’t our job… I mean, sorry, it is your job! This is what you do and like doing, but it isn’t your… our jurisdiction, and I find it all a little sleazy if I’m honest. I’ll tell you what, let’s do what we can this evening. leaving me enough time to report back to the Admiral, so not too late! So, let’s say we have a couple of hours more. We’ll order some food in. You should have enough time to access the communications records and to make a few interviews… I don’t want to tip off the other Cadets though and they will think the questions a bit strange. I think it is important that we don’t invalidate any future investigation by not following correct interview procedures now. So, a compromise. How does that sound?”

“Majel, Give me a drum roll please!” Glen told the Academy computer.
