SNIP

Tia exhaled a breath she hasn’t realized she’d been holding, and relaxed the grip she had had on Kord’s arm. As he mentioned the electrical reactions being part of his communication, she smiled. “Something tells me learning your language will be interesting. Forgive me if my accents are off.” She winked to tease and moved her hand back to relax between them on the table .

“I know you said I could ask you anything. But I hope that if I ever delve into another hot topic, you’ll tell me it’s none of my business, or at least say it’s something you don’t want to talk about.” She helped herself to a bit more ice cream and toppings.

“I’ve been monopolizing the conversation. I’m sorry. I tend to talk more when I’m at a loss of what to do. If that makes any sense at all.” She laughed and the blush he was starting to see quite a bit of tonight, once more tinted her cheeks slightly. “What doyou want to talk about?”

“That’s a tough question to answer. I’ve seen so many things that we don’t have a common point of reference for. It’s easier to let you ask questions.”

Kord hoped she wouldn’t see it as a cop out. How does one talk about something personal that happened thousands of years ago with someone who’s lifespan is measured in decades? It was even harder when most of those millennia were spent in a state of readiness for violence or hiding from that same violence.

While she didn’t see it as a cop out, she realized it wasn’t like they could compare Academy classes. Then it hit her. “You’re right, of course. I can’t imagine what you’ve been thru, and to you, I must seem like a child.” She smiled to ease her words a bit. “I don’t mind. It is a bit hard to fathom your life till now, and I know I can never compare to it. So instead of the past, which we can’t discuss without one of us feeling awkward, how about the future?” She rose up and programmed a couple dessert caffs and brought one to set before him.

As she sat down, she smiled. “My great grandfather told me before he died that he never climbed a mountain, because he had always figured there would be time. So tell me, Kord… what would you like to do, see or experience, that you haven’t yet. Surely, despite all your time, there are simple pleasures, moments, or even a sight, that you want to experience but just haven’t gotten around to because it seems trivial and foolish in the ‘grand scheme’ of things.”

It seemed ridiculous as she spoke it out loud, but at the same time, made sense to her. She just hoped he wouldn’t brush her off with an answer that he had gotten around to everything he ever thought of doing or seeing. If he did… she still had a trick or two up her sleeve.

Kord took a couple of minutes in thought.

“If you’re willing, I’d like to draw you. How do you feel about nude modeling for someone you just met?” Kord asked.

There was noting indicative of a sexual nature to his question. It was just a question without baggage.

Tia was taken aback at the question. Not because he wanted to see her naked, but because he wanted to draw her at all. She smiled, “I don’t mind at all. Forgive my surprise. I just… Well a million things went they my mind but I admit that you wanting me to model wasn’t one of them. No one’s ever asked me to sit for them, nude or otherwise.”

Leaning back as she imagined another side of him, she took a sip of her drink. “Do you draw often? I’d love to see some of your stuff, sometime. If you’re willing, of course.” She laughed, “I admit I don’t have an artist bone in my body. Guess I’m more the technical geek type.”

Tia

“I actually create imagery often and do some sculpting as well.” Kord replied, “I’d be happy to show you some of my work sometime. I have a few containers in the cargo bays.”

Kord was happy she seemed interested in modeling for him. Though humanoids had similar shapes, there were intricacies to the physical form that differed even across single species and it was those small details that Kord liked to capture.

That his face had lit up was all she could have asked for. “Containers, huh?” she gave a nervous laugh. “I think the only thing I have in my personal crate in the bay is a bunch of parts and pieces of various projects I either worked on or were part of. Like the first spano I ever used and the first conduit clamp I ever broke.” She laughed because out loud it seemed ridiculous things to keep. But to her, they were memories that looked like junk if left on shelves in her room.

“What’s in the cargo bay is just a small part of my work which is, in turn, a small part of my collection.” he said, “And value is subjective. A human saying that I’ve found to be true is one person’s garbage is another person’s treasure is another person’s pet food… Or something like that. When would you like to have a viewing? We can discuss the modeling after that.”
