Below the Bridge on Deck-8, the entire space of the deck inside the dorsal neck mount, is taken up with the Merrimack’s triple photon torpedo launcher system. The two launchers that faced directly forward, began launching their torpedoes independently, as a six-torpedo spread, each programmed to detonate with overlapping fields of efficacy as the COS had requested.

The torpedoes thumped out of the launching tubes and exploded in record concert to much surprise the explosions pierced through non-existent shields of the two Orion ships blasting into their armored only hulls with great success, in twin concrete they exploded in a flash of destruction.

A moment later a hail came in from the Avenger again as it came to a stop 400 meters off the port bow of the Merrimack

Kord always liked a good light show.

“Hmm!” said Glen, “Maybe that was a slightly excessive reply!”

“Tinga,” said Glen. “Acknowledge the hail and open a channel with the Avenger, please.”

Tinga’s left antenna twitched in acknowledgement as she received the hail and opened the channel.

“Channel open sir.”

Glen sat up straight in his chair. =/\= This is Captain John Glen of the USS Merrimack. Can we assist you with casualties or repairs? I have crew ready and prepared? =/\=

=/\= This is Captain Rogers, my crew can handle repair, it looks worse then it actually is, glad to see you arrived when you did though these Orions have been dogging us for the past two hours, first we’ve come across with cloaks though. It’s what let them get the drop on us…=/\= Rogers said. =/\=…Captain it may make more sense for us to meet in person there’s much I need to discuss with you regarding why we’re out this way. If I’m right the discovery and risk could go a long way to protecting the Federation!=/\= He said the last part almost with a tone of protectiveness.

=/\= I can beam over to you with my number one. =/\= Glen replied. “Kord?”

Kord nodded.

=/\= You might want to bring your senior staff, there is much to go over and sooner we can figure this out and piece it together the better I’ll feel for the safety of the Federation =/\= Rogers said.

=/\= As you must be aware, Starfleet’s updated ‘Safe Manning Document’ (that states the numbers and categories of officers and crew members that are required to be on board) would never allow that, as we would fall short of the minimum stated in the Certificate. It will just be Commander Kord and myself. =/\=

Kord was going to bring this up after the comms conversation was finished but now he didn’t have to.

=/\= You will find it under Starfleet’s ‘The Safe Manning, Hours of Work and Watchkeeping Regulations 2369, Chapter 2.1 Starship Requirements, page 1, section 3, paragraph 1. =/\=

Tia had been aiding with manning Engineering console and remaining silent as everything unfolded. The idea of the CO and XO both being gone sat ill with her. She glanced around to see if anyone else was gonna speak up. While her and Kord’s relationship wasn’t a big secret, she also knew that speaking up would make it seem like overreacting. Given the choice, the CO and Security Chief were a better option pair.

Though she also admitted to herself, in the same thought, that Kord was just as capable of protecting the Captain as the Chief. Sometimes she just had to remain objective. She bit her lip and looked back at her console and remained silent.

Glen was less concerned about his own safety than that of the Merri, and while he was entirely confident about the military capability of his XO, he felt that under the circumstances, he would feel much more confident of leaving his Chief of Security in charge of the Bridge and weapons systems while he was gone, and having the XO with himself. However, there was really little between them as far as the decision went.

“Can we stand down from Red Alert now,” Glen said, “that alarm is giving me a headache.”

Tia spoke up with a, ” Yes, sir,” before toggling off the alarm.

“Well that was exciting,” William said in an unusually dry manner “This is the first time I’ve felt both admiration for someone’s tactical skills and an innate disappointment in our opponent’s quick demise. Not that I’d hoped for a longer conflict mind you” He added absentmindedly “Hopefully all conflicts of ours can be ended as swiftly”

=/\= Very well Captain, I just hope your delay in then telling your fellow officers doesn’t delay us unduly. I will await your boarding soon then..=/\= Rogers said closing the comm

Glen wasn’t given as chance to respond before the Comm was closed. Very odd man, thought Glen.

Kord looked at Glen.

“This may prove to be an interesting day after all.” he said.

Glen nodded, “Indeed. I wonder what is so important he has to tell us?”

Nkosenye moved to the Captain and XO and spoke up only after the comms had closed, keeping his voice low so as not to allow for the rest of the bridge staff to overhear. “Sir. Sending the Commanding Officer and Executive Officer is highly irregular. May I suggest I accompany you or the XO while the other remains in command of the Merrimack? With hostiles in the area, I don’t think leaving the ship without the Senior Command staff is prudent, Sir.”

“I appreciate what you are saying, though not because it is irregular, I don’t care how irregular it might be,” Glen said. “I appreciate your council on matters of security, which is exactly why I am confident of leaving you in charge of the Bridge. I also appreciate Kord’s council on matters of diplomacy and strategy because of his very very long experience of such matters. So, I would really like him with me on this one. And it is exactly because there are hostiles in the area that I want to take only the two of us. If something occurs then the safety of the Merrimack is your priority, but you think that in such as situation, Kord could handle the Merrimack weapons systems better than you… the man who just took out two Orion vessels with a single volley of six torpedoes? They will be talking about that in the mess for several weeks.”

Nkosenye, simply nodded once and said “Aye aye, Captain. Understood.”, his voice back to his normal low rumble.

As Tinga manned her station her Aenar senses were picking up currents of thought all over the bridge like gentle waves, not each person’s individual thoughts.

“So Kord,” said Glen, “Are you ready to speak to Captain Rogers? A man who didn’t even bother to say thanks after we just saved his ass!”

=/\=Transporter Room standby, two to beam over to the Avenger. =/\=

“You have the Merrimack,” Glen told Nkosenye. Taking responsibility without making excuses, that is called leadership… and you can do no worse than when I left Dr. Cross in charge of the Bridge… that was only a joke, by the way, in case she gets to hear I said that!”

And the CoS would hear someone trying to stifle a giggle ,while another did his best to turn his laugh into a cough...................

“Looking forward to seeing you in action again, Sir!” said NEWideAwakeClub from the Nav station, to the CoS.

Nkosenye simply nodded and looked at the helm officer. “Once we confirm the Captain and Commander have arrived safely, go to three-quarter impulse and start patrol pattern using the Avenger as the center point. Science, continuous scans of the surrounding area for any other vessels or objects. Any contacts relay to me immediately. And scan the Avenger now for current life signs and send a damage report to Engineering. They may be able to assist in fabrication of needed components.”
