Kord was happy she seemed interested in modeling for him. Though humanoids had similar shapes, there were intricacies to the physical form that differed even across single species and it was those small details that Kord liked to capture.

  • Kord, XO

That his face had lit up was all she could have asked for. “Containers, huh?” she gave a nervous laugh. “I think the only thing I have in my personal crate in the bay is a bunch of parts and pieces of various projects I either worked on or were part of. Like the first spano I ever used and the first conduit clamp I ever broke.” She laughed because out loud it seemed ridiculous things to keep. But to her, they were memories that looked like junk if left on shelves in her room.

“What’s in the cargo bay is just a small part of my work which is, in turn, a small part of my collection.” he said, “And value is subjective. A human saying that I’ve found to be true is one person’s garbage is another person’s treasure is another person’s pet food… Or something like that. When would you like to have a viewing? We can discuss the modeling after that.”

  • Kord, XO

Tia smiled and laughed. “I can imagine you have quite a collection over the years. Have you considered a showing or a gallery display in some of the places we go? If you’re willing to pay with any of them, I’m sure there are tons of folks who love your pieces. From more than just humans as well.”

When he asked about when she wanted to see them, a smile lit her face as she cocked her head flirtatiously, “Why, Kord… Are you asking me out for a second date?” She assumed he’d want to do it another time because they’d already been up for quite a while and he surely had morning responsibilities. She was going in late because she was training a new shift supervisor for second shift, so she’d be there a while.

Tia

Kord smiled.

“A second date? Sure. It would be in the cargo bay in rather industrial surroundings, in a cargo container.”

  • Kord

Tia smiled and nodded. “Cargo container date. I doubt any holodeck program could compare.” She laughed and shook her head. “Careful, Sir,” she winked teasing, “I may start think of you as romantic.” She was teasing and hoped he knew it.

Her mind flashed back a moment and she sighed, ” Did you ever think when the newbie Ensign crawled under the torpedo with you and actually got excited you were building a bomb, that we’d end up here?”

Tia

“I never try to expect future events. Though I did find your enthusiasm refreshing.” Kord said.

  • Kord

Tia laughed. “Well how many people check in on a ship to find a command staff officer on his back under a torpedo, and receive an immediate field promotion while putting a bomb together. If I hadn’t been enthusiastic, chances are I would have been catatonic.” She laughed and leaned back. When she first thought of inviting him to dinner, she had expected a ‘no’. But when yes came, she half expected a quick, awkward meal and his departure.

Now she wasn’t sure what else to say to keep him talking. “So what would you like to eat next time?” She smiled. “I’m sure after looking at your art, we’ll be hungry.” SHe realized they had killed off half the cottage pie and all of their desserts. At least she hadn’t made something he detested.

Tia

Kord smiled.

“From what I understand, art presentations are customarily accompanied by fresh fruits, cheese, and wines.”

  • Kord

Tia smiled. ” So we will do the usual then? Or shall we definitely the snotty pros and do whatever we want? “

She couldn’t imagine being around as long as Kord has been, but she knew it had to be exceedingly boring at times. Hopefully she could make this part of his life a little more exciting than usual.

Tia

“We can do whatever we want. It’s not like it’s a showing at a prestigious gallery demanding we put on the finest of snobby airs.” he said with a smile and took another drink from his glass.

  • Kord

“Wweelll… There is that idea as well.” Her eyes narrowed, and her smile widened, as the idea formed in her mind. “Have you considered a showing? We could do the whole ‘snobby aires’ thing with cheese and various wines. Make it not uniform formal. Give everyone a chance to dress up outside of our Mess Dress. What do you think?”

The idea that others might like to see his work was part of it. The other was that she doubted anyone had ever asked to see his stuff in a while. This way he could share with the whole crew.

Tia

“I have two large containers with the paintings and drawings hung vertically on frames that one flips through like a book. There are hundreds down there. I just have to cycle the inert atmosphere I use to halt degradation before opening the doors.”

Kord thought for a moment.

“We could probably make it an occasional event. Much of my artwork is thousands of years old.”

  • Kord

Tia smiled. Hopefully he wasn’t just placating her, and truly wished the others to see. “The Masters will be jealous.” She laughed. “I understand good artwork has to be at least a century old to be priceless. And you get to see the appreciation that mere mortal artists more because of our short lives. And I’m sure there will be plenty of competition to get a piece of your talent.” She reached over to touch his hand as she thought to ask. “Are you really ok showing it off? Don’t do it just because of me. Though I hope I’ll get to see them regardless. I’m a fan, after all. Biased or not.” She winked teasing.

Tia

Kord smiled and gently grasped her fingers with his.

“I’d be more than happy to put on a viewing for anyone who’s interested. I wasn’t reaching for greatness, just doing something I enjoyed.”

  • Kord

Tia smiled. “I’m glad. I’m definitely interested.” She stood up, keeping his hand in hers and let him to the couch.

The next hour was spent discussing the way to do the show, how to display his work and just how much of it he was willing to get rid of.

As the night waned, Tia yawned and rested her head on the back of the couch. She was curled up sideways, barefoot with her skirt hiked very unladylike up over her calves from her getting comfortable. “I’m glad we did this, Kord. I know you work about me and the age difference. But I hoped you won’t worry about it often. I want to try and make your happier than you’ve been in a long time.” She reached out along the back of the couch and touched his shoulder lightly. “Will you let me try?” Her last words were given with a grin of mischief that hinted that he may not have a choice, despite her asking.

Kord knew they were genetically incompatible and thought *Why not. * it had been a long time since he did more than kiss a curious woman.

“I think I’d like to see what you come up with.” Kord said with a warm smile.
