Scans of a more varied nature finally started to come back from the science labs the reports read as follows:

  • The archaeological department found nothing on their scans that might be amiss, though they did note they were itching to check out the concrete block roadways on the planet below.

  • The geophysics department reported nothing amiss on scans for the ship, though they indicated that the planet below did seem to have far warmer waters then should be expected of a planet of this type, and that the ocean currents seemed ‘off’ based on the seeming appearance of no lunar body, the waves were functioning as if something was affecting them, though what they couldn’t say

  • For the meteorology department, there was a report that on the Merrimack the ship’s air had an increased amount of methane by .04% who’s source was still undergoing. NE Froza made a joking remark in the report that it was due to too much bean dip from the last ship’s meal. For the planet, they reported that the weather for the planet was equally warmer then usual for such a world, though no links to a reason were yet found

  • The quantum mechanics department reported they were still analyzing some odd energy readings coming from deck 2 section 3 in the VIP quarter 1, initial results though seemed to indicate the energy wave was similar to some kind of wormhole, but NE Venca reported such had to be impossible as even the tiniest wormhole on the ship would tear them all apart!

  • The botanical department reported all was currently well in the labs, planetside they reported on the planet’s various plant life reporting some islands seemed to have a large ivy plant which was like a shuttle sized venus fly trap. They noted some of the local four legged life forms seemed to dance around it at times suggesting it gave off possibly some kind of chemical that acted upon the impulses of passing animal life brain’s to entertain it

  • The Biochemistry department had nothing to report, both ship and planet side for now

  • The biophysics department reported they were studying the samples from engineering but could confirm they were just fish and cooked fish, and quite tasty with their sauce, planetside they had nothing to report

  • The xenobiology department reported that the local animal life seemed non-intelligent though further study and tests were needed, they felt based on reports from the botanical department that the plant life might have a symbiotic like relationship with the animals by some measure

  • Finally the ship’s communication’s department reported in that the ‘odd sound’ they were picking up seemed to have one-three points of origin somewhere in the system, the first seemed to be deep in an underwater trench along the southern hemisphere off one of the larger island chains. The 2nd seemed near the Avenger’s current location by a large comet/asteroid they were checking out, the third they couldn’t yet pin down other then it seemed to ‘echo’ within the system.

Tinga scanned the communications section of the report several times before turning to the Captain.

“Captain Glen, if you’ll note in the comms section of this report, there seem to be a few sources for this hum that may be worth investigating. Personally I would suggest the one on the planet.” she concluded.

“Make it so,” replied Captain Glen.

Tinga was used to being military. When she had become a communications officer, she had enjoyed the bridge time but didn’t want to loose her edge in the field.

Kord heard the department Reports and waited to see if Glen would issue commands. At that moment, most of Kord’s attention was invested in the ship.

Glen was still mentally processing all of this new information. Given that any of them could become good leads, but at the moment none of them looked more promising than any other, he was happy to allow the departments to continue their research as they saw fit, and to allow William to direct his science officers on this.

William quickly read over the reports he was receiving from his various departments, categorizing them into relevant, non-relevant and useless information. After a moment he spoke up “I’m reading various wildlife, no signs of intelligent life. There seem to be large flora similar to Terran venus traps but very large, estimated over ten meters, shuttle sized. There are some sorts of quadrupeds that dance around them indicating some sort of biochemical relationship between flora and fauna.” He explained standing up.

“The planet itself is acting quite oddly, despite lacking any orbiting satellite the oceans have cyclical waves that would indicate a lunar orbit. The oceans also appear to be abnormally warm for no apparent reason.” He placed visual results on standby should the captain wish to see them “Internally I’m getting some odd reports from deck 2, section 3 that I’d like to send a team to investigate. There is also a .4% increase in methane in the general air supply, source unknown” He said all with a neutral even sour expression, he disliked not being able to report facts or solutions. All he had were unexplained phenomena and fart jokes.

Glen replied, “As you are well aware, I’m a pilot not a scientist, but doesn’t the wave motions and currents, and the shipboard gravity readings, all suggest that we are dealing with some kind of hidden mass? It could be dark matter? It could be some kind of hi-tech black hole energy system within the planet’s core? Or, it could be the Reality Stone itself? Anyhow, I think that is certainly something worth checking out. As for the Methane increase, I’ve no idea, but NE Froza may be correct, I’ve mentioned to Chef before about his bean curries!”

“William, I suggest further examination of these odd readings is needed. Send a team to deck 2, section 3 and launch some probes into the planet’s oceans.”

Tinga turned and waited patiently for the Captain to finish dealing with the rest of the report. She wondered if he knew exactly what she had in mind. Did they indeed have a shuttle that was capable of physically going down into the trench like she wanted to do, and who would he assign to go with her?

“Aye aye” Will sat back down and got to work. With his left hand, he programmed the probes and with his right, he sent orders to the Quantum Mechanics department to send a team to investigate the disturbance.

With soft thumps the probes went out to go do their investigation. While the quantum mechanics department signaled they would do their assigned task, though perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to have the CSO check things out with them!

Kord was looking intently at a tactical overlay.

Tactical just showed the Avenger checking out the comet for now no other threats were present.

When the probe’s programming was finished William stood up “Sir, With your permission I’d like to go lead the Search team on deck 2, The probes will need time to gather sensory data and frankly I’d like to get my own eyes over as much of the internal information as I can” He asked the Captain.

Glen seemed distracted.

Glen had discovered a funny cat video on FNN and was busy reposting it.

“Do it.” Kord replied to William, “And watch yourself. Report anything unusual immediately.”

William gave the Commander a curt nod and left the Bridge.

Tinga had always been bold but since coming aboard the Merrimack, and being surrounded by so many Humans, she had been caught up in trying to learn the social dynamics of the crew. Every crew was subtly different.

“Permission to take a shuttle to the planet and investigate the hum?”

“Take someone from Science and Engineering with you.” Kord replied to Tinga.

Kord watched and waited.

Tinga turned back to her console to make preparations.

=^=I need a replacement at the comms station. Ensign Erickson and NE Smith please report to the shuttle bay.=^= she said before stepping away.

Glen looked up again, realising that he had missed the last five minutes of conversation entirely. “Er… yes, no problem! Carry on!”

“Status report?” Glen asked Kord

-Glen, CO

Kord looked to glen and the ship swayed almost imperceptibly.

“William is going to deck 2, section 3, to investigate personally. Tinga is taking an engineer and science officer to investigate the trench on the planet if they can manage to get the shuttle that deep. The probes are investigating the oceans as well. Meanwhile I suggest we get sensors on the orbital range of the planet to see if we can find out what’s causing the tidal effects.”
