Kord wasn’t sure how much to tell her.

“It’s like an extension of the body. I can’t access the computer if that’s what you want to know, but I can make adjustments to many of the operational systems on the fly if needed. I can use the sensors like extra sensory apparatus.”

  • Kord, XO

Tia nodded. “So you can sense thru the system, but not access and run it. That’s still so amazing. And I would check on the status of your meeting with Earthlings. I mean, if the Captain ‘doesn’t’ know. Cause it could be a great advantage in a pinch. Don’t you think? If I’m wrong, let me know. Just seems like something he should know. Though I agree, probably no one else.” She smiled and nudged his shoulder playfully. “Don’t want everyone knowing what my man can do.” She laughed.

“I think he might suspect, but we’ve never said anything to each other. Maybe this would be more clear… Think of the computer as the brain and the rest of the ship as the body. I can take control of the body and all it’s functions. The more familiar I am with the body, the more refined my control can be. But I have the discipline to not take control of the ship just because I can. I don’t think the captain would appreciate it. The Cheron fleet had massive warships. The crew compliments were so small that it would seem impossible to run such a ship, but they were only necessary for hands on repairs and maintenance and to assist the commander with sentinel duties and such. Otherwise, control of the ship was through the exertion of will by whichever command officer was on duty at the time. A ship this size,” Kord indicated the Merrimack, “in the Charon fleets, might have a crew of sixty.”

  • Kord, XO

Tia covered her mouth as she let out a laugh. “Only sixty? I can hardly imagine a single skeleton crew in dry dock of sixty on this ship. That’s… well it’s amazing. Though I can imagine that needing that small of a crew means less people on more ships. Sorry…” she touched his arm remembering there wasn’t anyone left. Smiling softly, she rose up on tip toes to kiss him softly. “I know, I know… public affection and fraternization. It can go to hell.” She laughed and kissed him once more before standing back on the deck.

“So, you know my curiosity, I have to ask. What’s the coolest thing you have done with your abilities?” She was all lit up with mischief and curiosity now. And grateful the bridge was there’s.

“Cool?” Kord asked, “Cool like what?”

  • Kord, XO

Tia laughed in embarrassment. “Ok, perhaps cool wasn’t the word I was looking for. What is the most impressive thing, to you, that you have done with your gift?” She wasn’t sure he would even want to answer. Like Marines in combat, you didn’t just ask what the worst thing was they had seen or done. And none would ever tell you. She hoped, in asking Kord the question, that she could get him to think of something good. And not just something bad. He had lived too long with ghosts and regrets. She wanted him to think of the good and realize how much more he had of those moments to look forward to with her.

“I don’t know.” Kord shrugged, “Shielded a settlement from an ion storm that lasted for two weeks?”

  • Kord, XO

The concern and shock and even respect, that flashed over her features was more than obvious. Her hand rose to rest on his as she shook her head. “Two weeks, baby!? That couldn’t have been easy. I’m so sorry you had to do that. Though I imagine, and hope, they were more than grateful.” It hadn’t been anywhere near what she had considered he would have told her. The scale and impressiveness of the image of it in her mind completely blew her away. The fact he held that kind of power in his grasp both impressed and frightened her. Oddly enough, the fear she felt wasn’t for her or the ship or the crew… it was for him. That kind of energy, inside someone, couldn’t always be a good thing. “I can’t imagine.” She then blushed nearly to her toes. “Though if you have that ability, it actually gives me the shivers considering it with what you’ve already shown me.” She couldn’t help it, still holding his hand, she laughed at the idea of standing beside him as he let loose an electrical storm equal in power to the shielding he had produced. It was awe inspiring in her mind.

“It almost killed me.” Kord said quietly, “Took two months before I had enough fine motor control to walk again.”

Kord was a bit uncomfortable talking about himself and feats that impressed the younger races.
