It took a moment for the UT to do its thing before a sing song like reply came back, though it seems some words were primitive in their meaning yet =/\= Our main power reactor is offline, secondary power is online but unstable. Maneuvering is offline, as our other critical systems. The relays to the main reactor were fused so we will need to replace them, unfortunately we can’t make such ourselves out here, nor did we have space for spares. As for casualties there were some minor injuries, and one fatality, may they rest with those in the Great Abyss beyond now. The injured our still in our medical bay though any help would be appreciated. =/\= The reply came.

Inola sighed, near silently. No respect for diplomatic protocols. “Thank you for welcoming us onto your ship.” She gestured to each person in turn. “This is Captain John Glen and Lt.Cmdr. Kord, our second. MCPO Mooney, our medic, and I’m Lt. Inola. I believe we spoke before.” Introductions were step 1, and even if she was following it out of order, she was still going to check every box.

After another moment the Second brought them into a square shaped control center, it had functional switch based panels, and console screens, quite primitive really compared to their ship but workable. There were six others present all female looking and curiously many all shared common looks and features. as the first three they had met. Could this society use a form of cloning or was something else afoot here? Another fact they noted there didn’t appear to be any males among the crew they had passed. The Second took this in and nodded slightly, =/\= This is our First,=/\= She said gesturing to the tallest of the females present standing at 5‘9, =/\= unknown words =/\= The UT buzzed as the name failed to translate. =/\= As for us speaking before, no that was my unknown word and our Third in command. =/\= the alien female said gesturing to a slightly shorter alien female to their left who gave a nod in reply to introductions but said nothing for now.

“We are here to render what assistance we can.” Kord said into the UT device, “Mister Mooney here will help with your injured. Ms. Inola, please accompany them to make sure communication is optimum. The rest of us will check out the damage and evaluate what needs to be done.”

The indicated ‘Third’ gave a nod to Kord and Inola after a moment. A sing song reply came through the UT then, =/\= I believe I was the one speaking to you previously when you first contacted us. I am sure together we can manage to improve the communication equipment between both our people to facilitate better speech. =/\= She said.

“These parts and relays that have been damaged…” added Glen, “ask them for undamaged working examples and our replicators should be able to make 3D copies to replace them easily enough. However, before we leave everything will need to be checked over by Tiastri and Emi’Ko and the engineering detail, right from the strength of the aeroshell, to the engines, to the seals, and every last scrap of wiring with a tricorder!”

Stepping back to the hatch, “If someone would show me were your medical bay is I will get to work,” said Mooney. Medical science had advanced a lot from the time humanity was at this tech level, there was a slim chance they could resurrect the fatality if It’s TOD was within the last ninety minuets. His impatience saw him out the door and into the corridor beyond.

Glen hadn’t expected any dead, never mind casualties, so he caught Mooney before he left, “Let me know how bad the situation with casualties is. I can transport over nurses to assist you, or we transport the injured to Doctor Saark in our Sickbay. We don’t know anything about their physiology. What looks like a minor injury to us, might be life-threatening to them, so keep asking lots of questions. Don’t take any chances. if needs be, I’ll bring Saark and equipment over here too. Let’s inform Saark to stand by to receive serious casualties.”

“Ay, Sir.” Mooney’s response was crisp, but the look on his face showed his mind was already working.

So much for all the security precautions over technology the Captain had been taking. Now he was contemplating replicating spare parts and bringing over the most advanced medical technology. ‘The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men, gang aft agley!’

Inola nodded to Glen as she followed Mooney out. This was exactly what she had joined for, and now she had the challenge of translating medical terms the UT might not understand. She was looking forward to it.

OOC: Dave can correct me if i’m wrong, but Inoala I believe at least to my notes is expected to stay for now on the bridge here working with the Third as I mentioned above.

OOC: I was under the impression she was to follow Mooney to Medbay. “Ms. Inola, please accompany them” (Quoting Kord) I guess she’s in high demand.
-L

OOC: Kord did tell her to follow Mooney. Far be it for me to countermand my first officer’s orders, but given that dead (or very sick) people don’t speak much, she is probably far more use with the living on the Bridge.

IC: “Belay that order! Inola, I believe you can be more help staying on the Bridge”, Glen said.

Inola nodded and walked over to the third. She was already looking forward to this.

Tia hadn’t usually gone on many away missions. Being the Chief Engineer, staying behind and making sure they could get away quick had always been a priority. So she had remained silent since arriving.

At the sound of her replicating parts to get this ship working again, she raised her eyebrows. That was something she hadn’t expected. But as an engineer on a crippled ship, she was grateful he was willing. She touched Kord’s arm lightly and nodded with a smile of reassurance before stepping forward. “We can get started on those scans right away. I’d like to start in Main Engineering and work my way outwards from the core.” She shifted the tool bag on her shoulder. It was a bit heavier and bulkier than her usual away kit. But this wasn’t some downed shuttle they were limping back to the stars. This was a ship in need of, most likely, something a bit more major.

Once out in the corridor Mooney keyed his comms =^= Mooney to Merrimack Medical, we have been informed they have one deceased and multiple casualties with minor injuries, moving to their sickbay to asses and render aid. I will asses the deceased for revival. Over =^= Taking the time to secure his helmet, the face shield being part of the bio protective gear. The Master Chief waited impatiently for his escort.

After a moment a sing song reply came from the ‘First’ likely the ship’s Captain in short. =/\= My medical staff chief will meet you two decks down, our lifts are currently offline so you will need to take a service ladder down just down the hall to your left. =/\= The First directed, and once Mooney followed a short way down the corridor he did indeed find a service ladder.

With everyone else given tasks Glen wondered how Kord and himself could help out, being neither an engineer nor a medic. He spoke to the First and Second using the UT, “My crew will deal with your ship repairs and crew injuries. Do you have any other pressing problems? Do you have sufficient food and water? Is your life support functioning? Is this temperature normal? We have brought along some portable cooling equipment.”

Glen tried to demonstrate “cooler temperature” to the aliens, but being unsure of their physiology made that hard. Even if they found the current temperature too hot, Glen didn’t know how they cooled themselves naturally - Did they sweat? Did they use tongue-lolling or panting? So, his miming probably had them very confused.

=/\= The temperatures here are normal for our people and ship. There has been no problems reported. Why are you warm? =/\= The First inquired.

Kord was sensing the biofields of the beings they had come to assist. Part of his people’s communication was through variations in their own bio electric fields. As he did this, he let his senses reach through the ship, touching on their systems to get a sense of what felt right and wrong to get an idea where to focus.

=/\= High environmental temperatures can be dangerous to our species. We prefer temperatures in between the range of 32 hundredths and 40 hundredths of the range between the freezing and boiling points of water, as measured at the normal pressure on our planet’s surface, otherwise we can experience heat cramps and exhaustion. This current temperature is uncomfortable to us, but is not dangerous. if it is normal to you then we will work around it. =/\=

-Glen, CO

Tia nodded to the CO. “I’ll head down to engineering and see what we can begin with there.” She then turned slightly to Kord and lowered her voice for just him, “Kord, did you want to help us down there so we know what we can and can’t replicate? Or do you and the Captain need to be on their bridge?” She didn’t mind going by herself, but she liked the idea of him being there, better. His ability with the ship’s systems may come in handy. But she’d never call him out on that score. So the replication permissions seemed as good a reason as any in case others were listening.
