“And we’re still beaming over, Sir?” Hal asked. “I doubt that they’ll be hostile to people who are helping them.”

“That’s still the plan!” Glen replied.

“They’re asking questions now sir. Fairly standard ones, who are you, where do you come from, but still. The sort of thing we might want to explain in person.” Inola smiled. “And we’re their welcome wagon. First aliens they’ve ever met.”

“Well, I’m as eager to me them as they seem to be to meet us,” said Glen. “Let’s get down to the Transport Room and beam over.”

William didn’t really understand all the security precautions the Captain was taking, his interest was purely in the discovery of a new species, the anthropological finds, and scientific potential here. In his mind, there was nothing wrong with bringing advanced technology so long as they kept to the letter of protocol, but then again he wasn’t a Captain and thus he probably didn’t truly comprehend the reasoning.

Glen’s reasoning was based upon historical precedent. Ships on voyages of discovery were often attacked for their technology, weapons and valuable commodities.

“Okay, then I think that is settled,” Glen said. “The landing party should assemble in the Starboard Transporter Room in ten minutes.”

“Who are you choosing to go over and introduce ourselves?” Kord asked.

“As I already said, a engineering detail, with Inola to translate, Hal and Mooney as security, and myself,” said Glen.

“Just double checking.” Kord said with a slight bow.

William sat back down at his station and waited for the away team to get going.

“Did you wish to come too Kord?” asked Glen. “I could leave William in charge of the Bridge. I’m happier leaving the ship with my First Officer but I do value your judgement and experience at my side. I wonder whether they might be shocked at your appearance, but then I think they may be calmed by the fact that we are all different, and in any case, I’m taking Emi’Ko. I don’t want the landing party to be too big, but one more person won’t make a difference. So, it is your choice.”

Kord nodded.

“By your command. Let’s see if we can get them underway safely.”

“Okay, Kord is coming too! William, you have the Bridge,” Glen said as he left.

William could sit in the Captain’s chair if he wished.

William turned around and stood up “Yes, sir” He said simply, waiting for them to leave before exhaling slightly. He had been given command of the Bridge more than a few times. It was an odd feeling, being responsible for so many lives even if just for a few hours. He moved to the chair, sat down, and crossed his legs.

William took a good look at the alien vessel, he went into a pocket inside his jacket and took out a small PaDD and started tapping in several observations about the design and architecture about the vessel, he hoped they would be able to have some sort of cultural exchange with the people as he’d very much like to get his hand on some of their artwork and scientific theories.

There was a lot of activity on the alien vessel, repairs, negotiations, and then a medical transport. He wondered what their first reaction to transporter technology was like. He made a mental note to question the Transporter tech’s how it went.
