=/\= Bridge, this is the Captain. I need your report, and quick! =/\=

=^=Apologies Captain, We’ve detected what appears to be a spacefaring vessel near the edge of the system. Impulse drive is active but it hasn’t answered any hails, all we get back is static. It’s probable that their comms array is damaged. It’s still beyond the local scan range=^= The Scotsman explained quickly.

=/\= Does it match the same configuration as the Alstairean vessel that we rescued? They apparently sent out two more exploration vessels. It could be one of those returning home? I guess I would be happy for you to leave orbit and check it out if you are careful. I do think the Alstaireans have been frank and honest with us. They might be holding back on something, but I’m doubtful of some other local aggressive warp-capable planet.... No, it’s most likely to be their own ship. I’ll question them about it and get back to you first. Was there anything else? =/\=

As Glen spoke, he glanced over at Falee and the two other Councillors to see if they were listening. Glen would prefer that the Merri stayed in orbit. He did feel safe here, but previous experience had shown him that these situations were never quite that simple and to keep all options open. Still, he found it hard to believe that this new ship could be a threat to them. If he allowed his mind to really run wild then what else could it be other than one of the Alstairean’s returning ships - a ship from a cloaked planet of Alstairean males?

=^=It seems to match some of the older Alstair ships, approximately fifty meters square all around.=^= he answered a bit sooner than last time =^=That’s all sir, thought it prudent to inform you regarding any changes. We’ll until you’ve had a chance to speak with the locals=^=

=/\= Okay. I’ll question them about it and get back to you. I’ve changed my mind. Don’t leave orbit unless they are in trouble and need a rescue. I’d rather know you were here. If you do leave, send down a shuttlecraft for us. Glen out. For now! =/\=

Glen flipped his communicator closed and walked back to Falee. “Councillor Falee,” Glen said, “My ship has detected another vessel on a course heading towards your planet. It matches the configuration of some of your older vessels. Its propulsion is working but its communications appear damaged…?”

There was a pause of surprise and a chatter of sing song exchanges the UT didn’t quite pick up before the processors did their job. =/\= A ship? All our non-FTL capable ships are in the system as you can....mmmm....=/\= Falee turned exchanging another round with one of the unnamed advisors nearby. =/\= Could it be one of our cryo-ships?=/\= She asked the female.

The female advisor seemed to consider from what Glen had told him. =/\= It could be councilor judging by what the Captain Glam said. =/\= The female mispronouncing Glen’s name without realizing it. =/\= All other ships in system are accounted for.=/\=

Falee turned back with a more excited tone to her features. =/\= Captain Glen if this is one of our lost sister ships, we must see to their rescue! I do not mean to pressure or presume but would your own ship like to assist one of our transport ships? =/\= She asked.

Glen smiled at Falee while his officers gave him their own feedback. He wasn’t prepared to make such a commitment just yet, though undoubtedly he would agree in the end.

Inola smiled at the opportunity, glad that the Alistarians could retrieve another of their ships, even as she wondered at the timing. These ships have been gone for so long, and as soon as we arrive, so does this one…

Kord leaned towards Glen.

“This could be an opportunity to show how many different species work together on Federation star ships. Perhaps we can offer to let three observers watch on our bridge during this possible rescue?”

Glen spoke quietly back to Kord, so that it wasn’t picked up by the UT. “I have a bad feeling about this! My gut tells me that something isn’t right, and all is not as it seems. I have ignored my intuition so many times, and it is seldom wrong.”

Glen then spoke directly to the Councillors again, =/\= We certainly would wish to help you and are at your disposal. But is there really such an urgency for them to be rescued? As I said, only their communications array appeared faulty; their impulse drive is working. My ship is already monitoring their progress. Why? What are your concerns? =/\=

=/\= If this is one of our returning sleeper ships their fuel supplies would be near or past exhaustion by now. They may not have the means to maneuver safely into the system through our cometary belt. Docking with the ship to maneuver by hard dock would be risky but our only option. I was hoping you with your superior technologies might offer a safer alternative. =/\= Falee said. =/\= If not Captain Glen I understand. =/\=

=/\= That’s correct! We have something that we call a Tractor Beam that could tow the ship if it was unable to manoeuvre itself safely through the cometary belt, but if it is not one of your returning sleeper ships, then what else might it be? =/\=

=/\= Nothing else to my knowledge Captain Glen? =/\= Falee replied.

That pit in Glen’s stomach was still warning him that something was off here, and yet he had no real reason to turn down this request. As Kord said, this was the ideal opportunity to show how many different species work together on Federation star ships, but as Inola implied, the timing was a huge coincidence, and coincidences were rarely accidents. Glen was clearly going to get no more answers from Falee.

=/\= In that case, I’ll instruct my ship to assist your transport ship =/\= Glen told Falee.

Glen immediately flipped open his communicator again and contacted William. =/\= Glen to Merrimack. Come in, please. =/\=

Tia stepped up to the XO and kept her voice low as she put her back to their hosts for a moment of privacy. “We have been offered a tour. Perhaps if I can get someone to show me the specs for their sleeper ships, with the idea being it is easier to help if we know what we are dealing with, then I can help find out if what is coming really is one of their ships. Giving the specs to the Merrimack will allow her to tell at the soonest possible moment if the ship coming is theirs or not.” She didn’t like ‘cripple’ ships coming up on her Merry. As Chief Engineer, the request wasn’t out of the realm of believable and would certainly gain them an advantage either way.
