Tia had chewed her lip long enough and finally spoke up. “Captain, with your permission, I would like to take Security NE Jeffries and see if they need any help with the sleeper ship.” Nodding to her guests, she affected her nicest smile. “I don’t with to seem rude, honestly. But I feel my curiosities and my help would be more beneficial in places less formal.” She was a mechanic, not a diplomat. And while Kord had more than opened her eyes to things that went beyond microchips and spano wrenches, she was still far more at home where technical things were the point of interest, not archeology, sociology, or diplomatic nodding. She just hoped she wasn’t offending anyone or stepping out of line in her request.

“I have no objection to that,” replied Glen. ” A report on Alstairean engineering and spacecraft design will probably be called for too. Keep in regular contact.”

There were pauses as the UT did its work translating back and forth, before finally the First replied =/\= Lt Tia if that is your wish I see no reason you can not do that. I admit I am curious myself on our lost ship returning but my responsibilities are here for now. Please keep me informed if you discover anything or anyone. =/\= The First said letting Tia and NE Jeffries depart at their will either by transporter or if they wanted taking the shuttle back.

Turning to Glen then, =/\= Your XO seems intent upon see our infrastructure. Our structural engineering center for this city is nearby we can stop there first. If that is what you prefer? =/\= She asked.

=/\= Yes, please show us the way. =/\=

Kord nodded politely in thanks.

As they walked Kord felt a sense of anticipation.

“May main interest is in the layout of transportation networks, power supply, citizen support, and financial systems.” Kord said.

More nods came from the First, leading the party after Tia departed to head down a well cleaned and cared for cement street and sidewalk. Small and medium sized wheeled cars slipped by at a leisurely pace, powered by fusion batteries it seemed. Female children all looked at the visitors to their world in awe and curiosity but also a little natural shyness as any children would be.

Glen mused that the elephant in the room was still how they managed to reproduce. They still had not seen any male Alstaireans. Did they only adopt male sexual attributes once a month, during a period of sexual receptiveness and high fertility, or were they completely asexual? In any case, Glen wasn’t going to raise the subject now and spoil a mission that was going so well. No need to cause any embarrassment or shame about any vast state incubators, or the rows upon rows of secret gravid bottles and sperm test-tubes, and the brains kept alive in jars. No, no, that was far better left for the ‘Second Contact’ missions to broach when the UFP membership application paperwork would need to have the i’s dotted and the t’s crossed.

As they walked for two blocks, Glen contacted William again, =/\= William, Glen here! Just to let you know that Tia is on her way back to you in the shuttle with Security NE Jeffries to see if the Alstaireans need any help with the sleeper ship. =/\=

Coming around the corner after walking two blocks passing by a small market area of stall shops serving various food and drink fare the landing party came upon their first stop a central transportation network hub site. The area was divided into several areas, a below ground pressure tunnel subway system network, a wheeled taxi car service, a larger wheeled bus service, a small site was given over to newer style hover cars, and finally a airport like affair was the largest spot. Looking over the map of the network it was very efficiently and carefully laid out. Clear long thought had been given to minimize or negate impact to locate surrounding wildlife, plant life, and giving ample space for the city they were in to grow about such things. Turning after letting the landing party take in the map and layout the First asked. =/\= Where would you like to look at things first here? Or do you got any questions? =/\= She inquired.

Glen replied =/\= This looks very efficiently and carefully laid out, but on Earth we couldn’t do this. We have planning laws that conserve and protect historic buildings, buildings with notable features, uncommon wildlife habitats, and sites with rare species of flora and fauna, requiring any new development to fit in around what already exists. How do you manage to achieve that? =/\=

OOC: Dealing with car troubles please bare with me a day or so!

GM CockRoach

OOC: Well, I can’t post today or tomorrow which will make me AWOL and I have no responses to reply to today. I’ll reply Tuesday.

Dave

“Do you have a map of your over all transportation network?” Kord asked.
