With a final heave the sheet of metal was lifted and moved aside, with a thud it landed nearby. Underneath was an Alstair female in a fetal position who as the metal moved peeked out carefully from her curled up spot, the depression she had fallen into likely having saved her from getting crushed by the heavy metal. Scans by a medical person would show she had some low level bruises and burns, and a broken right hand but otherwise was fine. They could either treat her or get her standing and move away from the area to get to a hospital on her own.

“Medic!” Kord called not knowing who would answer first.

“Right here,” said Liz through her teeth as she began the work of treating her patient. “Thank God, the damage seems treatable here.” Her expert hands waved a bone knitter over the patient’s hand to repair the fractures, and she sprayed a topical burn treatment over the exposed burns on her skin.

“You’re going to be fine,” soothed Liz as she stroked her patient’s hair lovingly. “Let’s get you up and around. What’s your name?”

The UT took a moment to compensate for the noise before the Alstair female replied. =/\= Sha =/\= She said seeming mutely numb and likely in shock from her sudden brush with death.

“Sha,” repeated Liz, rolling the name around in her mouth. “Sha, you’re a little dinged up but I think you’re going to be okay. Are you able to get up and walk?” She idly wondered if there was a translation for ‘dinged up’ in the UT matrix, but she figured her meaning would still come across.

With the medical treatment in hand, Glen mused on how it appeared that life on Alstair was a series of unfortunate events. The Merrimack could certainly help them with some kind of basic meteorite detection system. He would get Tia to organize that once she returned from the rescue of the second sleeper ship. Glen wondered what the next highly improbable coincidence might be.

Kord watched the doctor start treatment then turned to Glen.

“I’m curious as to how that got by their planetary observation networks without detection. Even a more primitive Earth was able to track stellar bodies and warn those in potential impact areas.”

“My best guess would be that there are so many very much small bodies that they can’t track every single one,” replied Glen. “It must have held up their planet’s development though.”

The First came over, answering Kord’s query. =/\= While our detection net is for our science advanced, it still has failure rates, it is by no means perfect sadly.=/\= She stated somberly, nearby more cries for help came in bits and fits, as emergency response workers arrived to help the wounded. Looking that way the First spoke again. =/\= I should think we should go see if we can be of further help. Unless you would wish to return to your ship?=/\= she asked.

“We can only assist in a limited scope, but I’m happy to help as needed within that scope.” Kord said to the First gesturing for her to lead the way.

“Indeed!” replied Glen. “We are here to help in your current emergency, but long-term we need to get you a solution so that you don’t have to live in constant peril, afraid for your lives!”

“There are planets which live with the threat of meteorite strikes on a daily basis,” continued Glen. “Federation membership would allow access to grants and engineers who could install asteroid impact avoidance systems. These would identify objects on a potential collision course with Alstair from space. For the smaller objects, these are rendered harmless by fragmenting the impactor and scattering the fragments so that they would miss Alstair, while larger objects would be diverted away, preventing destructive deep impact events. 66 million years ago a deep impact collision between Earth and an object approximately 10 kilometres wide caused a mass extinction of the species of life at that time. “

Kord nodded in agreement as he continued to look to see if others might need his assistance.

The groups looking did not have to go too far, everywhere their were injured hobbling or laying in shock. Thankfully more and more rescue crews were arriving so their looking drew them to the more central area of impact. Not too far off smoking and steaming was the remains of the asteroid that had impacted the planet. Now barely a hand fist in size it had left almost a 10 foot deep impact crater which was already filling with water from a nearby busted pipeline and fountain.

The First it seems was the first to notice something amiss, =/\= ..I hear someone! By the Abyss how could anyone have survived an impact! Quickly we must search for the source! =/\= She declared. Mutely now that attention had been called to it the landing party could hear a muted cry of some kind near where the asteriod was and where water was filling the impact crater.

Perhaps a tricorder scan could hasten their search?

Glen asked John Jefferies, “Set the tricorder to scan for life signs. Someone could be under this rubble.”

OOC: I may be absent for a few days. Family emergency.

OOC: Take care Dave hope everything turns up for the better!

GM CockRoach

OOC: Thanks. Everything is okay. False alarm. However, I’m still going away for a couple of days with limited internet access.
