Hal also went to the bridge. He took the tactical station, where he began to run standard diagnostics on the weapons and defensive systems.

“It sure feels good to be back home,” he remarked to nobody in particular.

“I’d have liked to have achieved a little more, Hal” Glen replied to Hal, “but I think we did good. Find out what’s holding up the team on the sleeper ship for me. I had expected that to be a quick rescue and salvage mission.”

Cross realized she had not yet informed Glen =/\= Captain the medical team is back ,their injuries have been treated and we got our crew back=/\= Cross sounded out of breath =/\= Though not all have been cleared for duty as of now .shall keep you informed once out of ................=/\= she tailed off as the doctor made her way to the theater to scrub before a patient bled to dead.

“We can have comms contact that sleeper ship, Sir, to get their status report,” Hal said. “We can also have Science run scans on them.”

“Make it so!” exclaimed Captain Glen.

=/\= Thank you, Miriam! =/\= Glen replied to the garbled message, =/\= …but I need those wounded Alstaireans patched up and ready to leave this ship pretty soon. We can’t take them back home with us. Glen out. =/\=

It was not Cross who contacted Hal but another doctor=/\= Lt, all the Alstaireans are ready to leave sickbay, would you send some security over to escort them? =/\=

=/\= Yes, I dispatch two security officers for assistance. They’ll be there shortly. =/\=

‘’I have to inform the Captain and an inquest mush be held’‘. With those last words she left the OR and headed to her office, sitting down she took some time to compose herself then contacted Glen =/\= Captain its with a heavy heart that I’m informing you we have lost one of our crew ,despite our best efforts he died=/\= she was quick to wipe a tear from across her cheek =/\= Captain I am of the opinion to find out whose negligence it was for the patient demise=/\=.

Sudden deaths were always shocking, but with the medical achievements of the 23rd Century, they had become even more unusual. =/\= I don’t know what to say! If someone needs to take responsibility then that must be myself as Captain. I wasn’t aware of any injury among our landing party, and I was much too focussed on the more obvious Alstairean’s injuries to even ask someone to check. We should have all had a full medical on our return. Please organise that for the remainder of the landing party and also for anyone who visited one of the two sleeper ships. There are unshielded atomic power plants on those ships and toxic construction materials have been used. =/\=

-Glen, CO

Had Glen been there he would have seen the sad expression on her face =/\= Captain with all due respect I cannot understand how it could have been your fault that the patient died.A rupture spleen by a blunt force may not show any side effects, the patient hemorrhaged cause he had been left in sickbay instead of being rushed to the OR =/\= , Cross voice was gentle =/\= All those who were part of the landing party have been brought to sickbay, checked and are being treated accordingly =/\= Cross had only been on the ship for a few hours and was unaware of the situation.

The demeanor of the CMO changed she was now furious but still kept her gentle tone =/\= Sir, others are responsible for the lack of communication and I’ll get to the bottom of this and report back to you …Cross out=/\= .

Cross CMO.
