Main Sim - Sickbay - Investigating the Child

Settling on the floor next to one of the larger panels of the tube, Tia began to slowly remove the fasteners. She knew better than to touch wires and cords, but seeing how they were wired may lend them a clue on how to help. As she worked, she was unaware a soft lullaby was being hummed thru her half pursed lips.

The CMO had given orders for the pod to be put near the stasis unit just in guess something happens and the child would need to be taken out.A doctor was checking the male child vital signs every fifteen minutes ‘’Chief the science dept has managed to open one of the sphere and from what I heard a shaped like egg was found inside ‘’ he told Tiastri while watching her remove the fasteners.

Not looking up, Tia frowned slightly and her bottom lip slid between her teeth as she thought a moment. “Have they scanned it? Is it an actual egg with a life form in it? Or just a solid object?” She cocked her head to look at the readings, making sure they were steady with the new hook ups to the Merrimack’s system. She was curious if the child had managed to convince the grownups to put all his ‘pets’ with him in stasis. The last thing they needed was a couple dozen strange little creatures running amock on the ship.

And heaven help them if they divided like Tribbles.

It was Hunter that responded back to Tia ‘’Chief this is what we’ve learned so far. They don’t appear to be an egg in any known form that we can make sense of. NE Chris thinks they could maybe be a kind of organic battery, though for what end we’re not sure since they don’t seem to interact with say the child’s sleeping pod, nor do they seem to be edible as there is no real way the child could have opened any of these metal casings on their own with what they had on hand, and we’re pretty sure that had the Alstairians awakened the child they wouldn’t have had the tech either to open them for the child..”

‘’This is getting complicate by the minute ‘’ Cross told Tia ‘’Even the time frame of the pod does not make sense, we did not have the technology to put someone in stasis back then and yet the child is still alive ......someone else must have came into the picture with more advanced technology and it was not the Alstairians ‘’.

Now that the pod was completely set up with the Merrimack Tia was able to start calling up readings. “So we need to figure out the exact nature of the power grid set up, make doubly sure the atmosphere in the pod is compatible with ours, and think on how to wake this child up. Whatever happened, and whenever it happened, are more or less moot at this point. The goal now was to wake the child and find out if he was aware of his situation and needs.

In the back of her mind, looking down at the sleeping child, Tia sincerely hoped this wasn’t a species that imprinted on the first person they saw. Last thing on her mind was being a mother. But still… something inside tugged at her that made her suddenly want to protect the child from whatever ‘grand scheme’ had put him in this predicament.

Cross did not agree ‘’As long as the child is in a stable condition we should leave him there, if on the other hand his life is in any danger then we would need to get him out and in the stasis unit ‘’ the CMO sighed ‘’The ship is going to the star constellation which was written on the pod, lets hope we’ll get the child safely there in time’‘.

Cross reasoned that even if where ever they were taking him the crew would still see that he’s in a safe place, they weren’t about to throw the pod and leave. Psychically he had the body of a human but what about the skin color?

Part of Engineering Chief was relieved. Honestly, the last thing she needed was the responsibility of a child. But another part of her railed at the logic the Doc gave. How could they learn about the child without waking him. Nodding at the reason, she sighed. “Well then, sleep it is. I think so long as we don’t need up too many of the objects, then, we should be ok.” She sighed. “I wonder, now, hindsight of course,” she laughed and shook her head, ” if we shouldn’t have made an effort to bring more, if not all, of those objects with us.” She had a small knot forming in the pit of her stomach that somehow, now she was clear-headed enough to think, that they were, somehow, important.

Cross could understand Tia’s frustration, she too wished she had more knowledge about the child but still hoped that they reached their destination with the child still intact.

As for what else was found the doctor did not have any idea cause she had boarded the ship just before transporting the child ‘’Tia I still have that gut feeling that someone else was involved between the child being put in the pod to ending up were the Alstaireans found it’‘ the doctor tried to reason ‘’According to the scans the child was put in the pod a long time ago when such advance technology needed did not yet exist’‘ she looked at Tia maybe she could offer some different reasoning? a different hypothesis? Considering she was the Chief Engineer.

‘’Once I was in charge of the bridge and I was suppose to take the ship out from the docking area and nearly split the ship in half cause forgot to contact the docking area first! Ooo the shame of it all’‘ Cross uttered while lowering her voice. ‘’The CE back then vowed to strangle me’‘.

Then she wondered how the science dept was progressing with the shaped egg found inside the sphere.
That was Cross, if she wasn’t concentrating on something she would jump from one thought to another like always.

Captain Glen arrived back from Deep Space K-5 and went immediately to Sickbay for an update on the status of child. Once it was explained to him that the child was stable within the stasis unit, he saw no reason for the Merrimack to delay leaving any longer and he contacted the Bridge.

=/\= Bridge. This is Captain Glen. Set co-ordinates for the system given by the Ship’s Anthropologist from their decipher of the child’s stasis box. I want us to leave immediately, once we have all the crew back aboard from Deep Space K-5. Notify me when we are ready. Glen out! =/\=

He had left to get away from work for a while, taking up the advice of his new XO, but now he regretted not being on the Merrimack as it appeared a lot of time had been wasted wondering whether to wake the child or not.

“If it is medically safe in your opinion to wake the child from stasis, then I authorise you to do that,” Glen told Doctor Cross. “As you rightly say, we need more information about the child’s origin, and we can only get that by communicating with it. We are going to visit an unknown system and any information I can get about that system in advance is vital for the safety of this ship.”

Cross glanced at Tia and shrugged, apparently she was the only one who waned to leave the child in the pod ‘’We have not picked up any illness but if the child happens to be in distress or any disease process we have to put it in the stasis unit suspended all cellular activity and keeping him from succumbing to any illness or injury for an indefinite period.’‘. the doctor told the Captain.

The Captain agreed, “The preservation of life should always come first, but if it does no harm to wake it then I see no reason for further delay.”

The CMO gave a nod to Tia, she had to be the one removing the power grid. Cross being a doctor had little to no knowledge of such things . Before opening the pod, two red shirts stood by in case there was a need to lift the child up.

Cross may very possible hold her breath once the CE would start opening the pod.

Glen really wanted to get back to the Bridge. They had reported that the Merrimack had left Deep Space K-5 and was now underway, but this was much more interesting. The new XO could have time to get to know the Bridge without him. He kept out of the way in Sickbay, well behind the redshirts, so that the scientists could do their jobs. While he waited, he also got an update on progress made examining the silver balls in the science department.

The moment that Cross dreaded was happening, she glanced at the CE ‘’Well Tia lets open it up and keep our fingers crossed’‘. By this time Hunter had made it to sickbay and was ready to assist if the need arose.
