Ade took a while to answer. She wanted to shock him, but he refused to be shocked by her. Ade had lived long enough to have seen things that he couldn’t describe. Instead, he tried to lighten the conversation. He remembered a similar conversation with Marthese in Sickbay and was sure she needed some help for her issues. Strange that Starfleet Medical had completely missed them.

“I cannot say that I do, no… I was just saying that I do know about dysfunctional families. Two of my cousins are real Princes, but another has been imprisoned for pretending to be one. I also have a cousin banned from the Galactic 3D Chess Federation for cheating. I have yet another cousin who left her husband, is addicted to the Venus Drug, and now lives with an android on Mars.”

She cocked her head to one side ,took a deep breath and burst out laughing ‘’Oh what a silly penguin you are ‘’ her voice was honey sweet. She finished off what remained of her juice while gazing at Ade ‘’So tell me what made you join Star Fleet?’‘.

Ade immediately replied back, “Easy! Quite obviously, I joined Starfleet to see the Galaxy, and to meet new and interesting aliens, and then to look at their teeth!… …That is unless Security didn’t kill them first!”

‘’Strange..... you can still examine their teeth if they are dead’‘ she replied with a hint of humor ‘’In fact I would consider it much safer that way’‘.

“Indeed,” replied Ade.

Marthese caught sight of some crew members dancing ‘’Would you mind excusing me or join me Ade?’‘ the doctor asked while looking at him wondering if his costume would be to uncomfortable to dance in.

“That’s fine!” replied Ade, “I’m not much of a dancer, even if I wasn’t inside this! You go and enjoy yourself.”

Ade, Dentist.

‘’That would be nice Lt’‘ Cross answered back ‘’Guess I have to call it a night, early shift tomorrow ‘’ she stood up and extended a hand ‘’Thanks for the company Nkoseye you’re very kind,a true gentleman much appreciated’‘ .

Nkosenye stood up (and up… and up some more) and took her hand in his. His grip was gentle, but he gave her hand a small squeeze. “My pleasure, Doctor. Until tomorrow, then.”

‘’Yes Nkosenye until tomorrow evening ‘’ Cross felt his hand squeeze hers and a small smile formed at the corner of her mouth.

Catching sight of the other female doctor on the dancing floor Cross emitted a long, deep audible breath expressing tiredness ‘’It seems I have to drag our new doctor with me,she must have forgotten she’s also on duty ‘’.

Cross Dr.

As Cross rose, Tia stepped up. “I hope my presence isn’t the reason you are leaving.” She glanced from one to the other as she absently bit her lip.

Lt Tia Ezial
CE (field promo)

‘’No Lt I’m afraid I cannot stay, early duty tomorrow ‘’ Cross responded back while trying to keep her eyes open ‘’I don’t usually feel this tired, beside I’m sure you’ll find the company of Lt Nkosenye pleasant enough’‘ .

Cross Dr.

‘’Lieutenants’‘ the doctor said looking at both of them with a slight nod of the head. She then turned around and left but not before getting hold of the other female doctor did she exit the Lounge.

“Please, Lieutenant.” the big Zulu said, indicating a chair. “Would you care for a drink? I will be happy to get it for you.”

Cross Dr.

Tia nodded as the others left. Turning back to the Security Chief, she smiled feintly. “Thank you. I’ll have whatever you are. I’m not picky.” She was a bit uncomfortable as she settled into one of the seats. “And please, call me Tia. Lieutenant was a field promotion. I guess I’m still not used to it.” She smiled and nodded. “I can get us the drinks if you want.” She started to rise and smiled. She hadn’t been one for parties at the Academy, and here, she felt way out of her element. She brushed a loose strand o hair behind her ear. “I feel bad for you losing your companions as I joined you.”

Mthunzi waved her off and said “Please. Allow me.” and he walked to the bar and retrieved two drinks. Setting one before Tia, he said “Local drink from my home. Made from herbs and fermented citrus.” and he sat down. “Dr. Cross had something to attend to. Unfortunate. I was enjoying the conversation.” Nkosenye’s speech was crisp and clear, even though his words carried the unmistakable accent of his homeland in Africa. “Do you think the promotion only temporary, then?”

Nkosenye, CoS

“Thank you,” she took the offered drink and took a sip. Smiling, she covered her mouth a minute. “Wow… Definitely want to visit ‘your home’ on leave sometime. This is great.”

As he settled and spoke of the company and her promotion, she shrugged. “I’m guessing that unless someone else transfers in soon, I’m the new Chief Engineer.” She shrugged again. “I had hoped if make it this tour. I just hadn’t expected to handed a home and field promotion on the day I arrived.”

She laughed and looked around. “Are these gatherings common?” Part of her hoped not, but another part of her did. An odd sensation, to be sure.

Tia
CE

“Not as far as I am aware.” he replied succinctly, and took a drink. “I have not been aboard all that long myself.”

Nkosenye, CoS

“Ahh…” She laughed and took a drink again. “Being new on the ship, is there anything I should be keeping an eye out for? I mean, from a security point of view,” she nodded to him to indicate her acknowledgment of his position.

Tia
CE

“Nothing outside of the normal security needs of a star ship.” he replied flatly. “I tend to frown upon people accessing areas of the ship they are not authorized for. But you would have no concern for that. As the Chief Engineer, I have granted you full access to all spaces.” and he took a sip from his drink. Setting it back down, he added “of course, I track who accesses what. In case of an incident.”
