Cross approached Joe ‘’Say Cmdr what if the person with the broken nose had been to this party and you punished the wrong guy instead’‘ she whispered in a teasing sort of way.

Joe looked at Cross , confused for an instant. Then the look of understanding look came across his face. “Then I would have to feel sympathy for the wrongly accused individual because I have been in the same situation once or twice. ” Joe answered with a barely suppressed smile. “But as an XO I was acting on the report of the duty officer and any punishments received by any individuals will be decided by the captain not me. I only make recommendations. ” Pausing then he turned to Cross and said , “Along with that if there are any saucy little medical officers who have information which might help a wrongly accused individual they should go see the captain .

Tia arrived with a backpack and a carry case. On her hip, peaking out from her jacket now and then, was a small phaser. She nodded to everyone as the conversation paused. “Permission to store my gear?”

Cross nodded back while noticing the small phaser, if Tia had brought one then surely the rest of the away team had not come unarmed she reasoned to herself, which made the doctor more at ease.

Joe looked over at Tia . So this was the Chief Engineer. Well it was nice to finally meet her. He looked around the shuttle bay at all the people including himself who were standing about uncomfortably and then replied to the Chief saying ,”I think it might be a good idea to stow everything at this point including ourselves . I dare say the seats in the shuttle might be more comfortable than standing around on the deck . And good to meet you Chief. ” Joe then stepped aside for Cross and Tia to begin boarding .

Tia smiled back, “Good to meet you as well, Sir. And feel free to call me, Tia. Too many Chiefsaboard this mess.” She laughed.

Finally! Cross thought to herself as she boarded the shuttle The quicker we set off on this journey the sooner we’ll get back .
The female doctor now had time to check the small bag Hunter had given her, looking inside she found a stethoscope, needles for shots, sedatives, doses of painkillers, antibiotics and anti histamines which made her scratch her head at the latter.

Some of which had been taken from sickbay........ which had been on display of days gone by.

Glen noticed Tia’s phaser too. “Just to say, that as we already decided in the meeting earlier, we will stow away phasers and communicators in the shuttle, except for Security, so that we don’t display any technology that the Dol may not have. Chief of Security, Lance Del Wolf, will be coming with us and will be making sure we are kept safe. The Transporter Chief will hold a transporter lock on us in case we need a quick extraction. Please do make small talk but don’t mention our technology or equipment in conversation. We may decide to exchange technology with the Dol, but if we do so, I will have to make that decision without compromising the spirit or essence of the Prime Directive.”

“Of course, Captain,” Tia replied. She must have come in after the weapon situation has been discussed. Realizing she might get separated from the security team as she had in the past, she tucked her phaser into the very bottom of her till bag. Amongst the other items, it just looked like another tool. Hopefully it was something security would be reminding her to return, later, because she’s forgotten about it

Trucking the bag in the webbing beneath her seat, she sat down to allow the others to move a bit easier. Tucking an errand red lock behind her ear, she moved her legs sideways as the XO stepped by her. “Empty seat of you want it,” she said and nodded to the one on her right.

It occurred to her afterwards he might be helping pilot and mentally betrayed herself for the stupid offer.

After the conversation lulled, Glen spoke. “I apologise for making you all sit, cramped together in this tin can,” said Glen. “I thought that if we materialised in front of the Dol and Sal, then that really would give away our level of technology, but thinking about it now, they must have met so many other space travellers, that they already are well aware of who, and how advanced we are… nearly there now… I can make out individual buildings within the Habitat… It’s huge! A structure of this size, built in space, that is quite an engineering achievement.”

Lance had a box of new communicators in it “ ok guys this is the new personal communicators they work exactly like the old ones but they have a panic button on the side. That anytime you feel like you need to return the ship Press this button on the side to send an Automatic distress signal back to the ship And you will be beamed back to the ship” when he was done with his demonstration of the panic button he started to hand them out.

Glen thought Lance was showing a bit of initiative here, and wondered why a silent alarm had never been a standard option on the communicator before. However, maybe he could have run such an equipment change past the other senior officers first.

“One more thing before we land I need to know who all has a Facer except for me.” He said with a stern look.

Cross heard the Captain as she looked out at the structure, thinking it was impressive indeed. Looking again inside her small bag with a stethoscope and other medical equipment that were used in time long gone the doctor shrugged, after all it was Glen himself who had told them to show as little as possibly about their own technology . * Oh well she thought There is still a medical kit in one of the compartments * but for now Cross opted for the bag and would take a decision later on.......maybe after seeing their own medical equipment.

Cross never carried any weapons, she usually stayed near the COS cause it was her best bet just in case anything happens ,after all she was taught how to save lives and by the looks of Del Wolf she felt confident enough.

Ferris grabbed one of the communicators. Flipping it open, he smiled, before swapping his out with it. “We were supposed to bring phasers? I must’ve missed that in the briefing. Then again, I am a man of talking, not fighting.” He said, referring to his position of communications.

Truthfully, he had the same combat training as any other officer, he just preferred not to use it.

Lance looked at Ferris “ The reason I asked is because people on the ship has been very laxed. People fighting drinking taking stuff they’re not supposed to. This is why I asked and if I find out that anyone has a phaser without my permission they will be heading to the brig after this mission”

Joe who was standing and listening, and pretty much pretending he wasn’t there smiled a bit at all the back-and-forth dialog behind him as he waited for things to get going. Turning to Del Wolf Joe said, “Stand down a bit Lieutenant. We may soon have our plate full of other things. No need to get others or ourselves fretting over things that we can’t do anything about in the moment.”

Glen smiled to himself. The ‘not carrying phasers’ had really come out of the concerns of others at the senior staff meeting, rather than his own. And De Wolf was new to his position but would soon learn, one way or another, that offering positive feedback and “carrots” for good behaviour, worked better than “stick management’ and negative feedback. However, this mission was probably going to be one of negotiation and he didn’t want to display all of their technological cards before the game had even commenced.

Then however Joe turned to the group and asked ,”Just to make sure , is everyone clear on the captain’s orders concerning technology?”

No need to

Cross had left the Merrimack three yrs previously, after causing to much problems .The need for stimulation was too much to ignore, back then she could defend herself but now just a shadow of her former self the female doctor knew she had to depend on others.

Cross jaw dropped open on hearing what had been happening among the crew but it was not her duty to find out who did what.

  • Glen, CO

Lance was feeling off “ being ship COS was very different from being station COS. Hey the crew wants him to chill but he can’t he doesn’t know them well…….yet.
