She remembered when Franz woke up the first thing he asked * if they were his new parents*…was that the reason some of the children accepted to go inside the pods? .

Cara Meow, who had been silently observing, whispered to Miriam quietly from behind her, “Other species will have customs and ideas that seem abominable or abhorrent to us. We just have to accept those sometimes! We have no jurisdiction here, and we certainly have no high moral ground to stand upon given the history of our own worlds. We would say that young children do not legally have the capacity to agree to valid consent in a situation like this, but clearly they don’t believe that. I will have a long report to write about this visit, but we don’t wish to create a diplomatic scene here. Anyhow, I think a better question is what causes them to have so many orphaned children?”.

Cross whispered back ‘’I’m not enforcing my own thoughts but I do feel a duty to bring to their attention the danger and seriousness they could very well come across. Dear Cara maybe you as an Anthropologist find their customs and ideas intriguing but both you and I know who or what could make its way here and for what ?To improve their technology?’‘.

She found it strange that they live in a habitat instead of the planet and even stranger that they had been slaves and yet are sending pods into space not knowing who might find them.

Continuing then Sal continued, “..As for putting coordinates to our home world? Yes we do that often once a child is adopted, it is for their own use later in their life so they know how to return here. Obviously this carries a risk of more hostile groups finding a Pod and following it back here, but in the few times it has come up over the hundreds of years of us being here, we have not yet had a problem, but in our experience more often then not it is worth the perceived risks to us and the habitat to learn and grow through the Pod program..” she stated

William perked up at this, this could have good insight into the way this species defined their morality, he did disagree with the way the question was asked but purely from an anthropological point of view.

Hearing this Cross could surmise that the reason now that Franz had asked this question when he awoke in Sickbay was because he had not met his future family, and had not been informed by request what they looked like. This seemed more a choice by the Alstarian family that was to take him in then anything malicious on the part of Sal and the habitat locals.

”..Now if there is no other questions do you wish to see our normal schooling facilities or the Pod academy?” She inquired.

Apparently these species were ready to take the risk and for what? Cross thought. As Sal did not seem to mind, calculating the odds of having unwelcome visitors was like playing Russian roulette .

Cross gave her a curt nod and stepped backwards, leaving someone else to pick which place they wanted to visit.

Joe had kept silent during Sal’s talk. The whole thing smelled about like Grandma’s cabbage from two years ago stored in a damp basement complete with mold. What sort of people would confine themselves to what amounted to a floating metal tube eating whatever that was they ate and ignore the universe around them except to put children at danger in hopes of exploring it a bit? To each his own he thought although the idea made his skin crawl . “Yes Joe said with an easy smile let’s do see that schooling facility and Pod academy.”

“I’ll second that,” added Cara. “The schooling facility and Pod academy please.” Cara was thinking now that her report on mission might be her big academic breakthrough. She couldn’t wait to gather all the information available.

Sal nodded, “..Lets begin then with the primary school facility..” She said.

Entering through the pair of sliding glass doors, the air inside matched more or less that which was outside, given the building and area outside were likely fed into the system circulation system this made sense. Walking up to a welcome desk, another female of Sal’s species, looked surprised and a bit confused, seemingly having been quite engrossed in her work for a while she was perhaps so engrossed she had not heard of the Merrimack’s arrival and/or had not expected Sal to arrive. “..Advisor Sal! I....I had not expected your arrival here, nor that..” the secretary eyed the varied away team from the Merrimack, “..that we had alien visitors! I am sorry I guess I got too wrapped up in organizing the school’s recreational planning for the next week!” She said nervously.

Cross noted that she was called adviser Sal and not Miss Sal, so made a mental note just in case they would come to the conclusion about the doctor’s low IQ. She was about to tell them that they were called Homo-sapiens but then changed her mind and decided to keep her mouth shut.

Sal smiled politely, “..It is not a problem, Har…” She said, turning to gesture to the away team, “..These are alien visitors from an alien power called the United Federation Of Planets. Their ship found one of our Seed Pods when they rescued the Alstarian Sleeper Ship we sent back to their home world a few years ago. They are here on a tour to learn more about our educational and cultural values..” she then one by one introduced each of the away team.

The woman it seemed named Har stood, “..Oh goodness! Here I am looking so bland, urgh I should be wearing my hat of station rather then my causal wear one..” She said rambling. The woman was referring it seemed to her tin foil like pointed hat that everyone on the station wore. If one squinted they could tell that this hat was a bit less shiny and of ‘quality’ then say the one Sal wore currently.

”..It is quite ok Har. Relax, you always get too nervous when you meet people like this about your fashion..” Sal said in a friendly manner. This seemed to calm down Har a bit and she nodded her thanks.

When you meet people like these? did that mean they had met others and if so who?. Cross also wondered about the tin foil hats ,she guessed the higher a ranking person was the shiner the hat would be.

”..Of course,” She said clearing her throat slightly to start over, “..I am Har, my position here at the primary school facility is to organize many recreational activities that will challenge our youth in both physical and mental capacities while still being something that will be ‘fun and engaging’ for them..” she explained.

The female doctor felt she had to ask ‘’ I believe its essential for the sake of the children’s future ‘’ Cross paused ‘’But what if a child is not capable in one or both capacities, are there any other teachings or instructions especially for individual pupils or small groups who fail?’‘.

Lance was listening to what cross said. She was right and he was curious of the answer. He will only step in if she goes to far or say something to embarrass there host.

Lt. Lance Del Wolf (COS)

Joe winced at some of the things Cross was saying. They were after all visitors. He understood her concern for the children but still. One didn’t go to a new friend’s house to try out their new meatloaf recipe and then complain that their children’s hands weren’t scrubbed. He was beginning to feel more and more penned in by the minute. Joe saw that Lieutenant Del Wolf seemed to be staying close to Cross. He hoped that the young man had tact. For if he sought to stifle Miranda, he might find himself wishing he were battling a couple of Klingons with himself armed only with a matched set of ramen noodles.

Lt. Cmdr. Joe Milligan XO

Cross caught the Cmdr wincing,Lt Lance was still holding her arm and she was about to lose it .Instead the doctor closed her eyes to shut every thing out while trying to figure what was wrong with the questions asked to Sal.
Where the others taking every thing said at face value, irrelevant ,unimportant or unworthy of consideration that they were either not being told the whole truth or skipping what Sal considered unimportant and not worth mentioning.
