With the channel open, Mullins was ready to ask for assistance from the Klingons. He then spoke, “This is Lt Mullins of the USS Merrimack. I am temporarily in command. We have some bacteria going through the ship and we need some assistance. Is anyone aware of this type of bacterium,. I will be sending data through subspace for additional information. This is for anyone who is still within in the area. Any information about it would be ideal. Please respond.” Max then entered the data into the command seat to send over the subspace channel which was open. He hoped for a quick reply in order to relay down to sickbay to the executive officer.

“Trying!” said NE Marconi. “I’ll repeat that contact signal every five minutes, Sir!”

Verity stepped out of the lift and onto the bridge. She saw Mullins in the command chair. “Lieutenant Mullins, where is the Captain and the Commander?” She asked as she looked around the bridge, her eyes stopping on the ready room door. “Do you know if we have been able to make contact with the Klingons?”

Max saw the Lieutenant walk onto the bridge. He then heard the question and responded, “The captain is still in sickbay and the Commander is still with the child and trying to figure out what is going on. The Commander requested that I take control of the bridge and ship and attempt to reach out to someone for any assistance with the bacterium. I have attempted to contact the Klingons or any one else, but we have not heard anything as of yet. ” He then looked over to the communications officer and said, “Do we have any updates on the signal as of yet? Have you attempted to send the signal out on every frequency as that might help? Please advise.” Max was hoping for something very soon otherwise, this might blow up in his face and he did want to that to occur at this point. He was hoping for a quick resolution. He then waited for a response from both Lt Aphelion and the communications officer.

NE Marconi replied, “No response from our hails on any hailing frequencies, Sir! I’ve tried all known Klingon frequencies! It’s dead quiet out there!”

Ironically it was only a second or so later when they finally got a reply on the open border comm lines for the Federation-Klingon space.

Only a few seconds later the turbolift door slid open again to reveal Joe stepping off and as he did he eyed the door suspiciously and was muttering, “Who keeps grabbing that lift as soon as I get there?” He scratched. His head and then jumped in surprise at seeing Verity . “Oh ! Hi Lieutenant! How are you doing?” Then he spoke to Mullins saying, “Mister Mullins how goes it?”

Once the comm channel came up, a grizzled Klingon Commander came onto the screen, =/\= This is Captain Sov’leq of border outpost 9. We have received your transmission and data on former mining colony M-119. You refer to the primitive in habitants who worship some ‘Great Gods’ of their own make and who for the past almost 40 of your years we used as mining workers and industry production on their planet. We are aware of the local bacterium you speak of however, Klingons were never suspectable to it’s effects. Our intelligence report to your diplomats we gave included this in the medical reports when asked about local concerns upon our agreement to leave per the Khitomoer Accords. I can only assume your ship and crew mates did not fully read it, or else your foolish commanders failed to alert you of it being present. Because it had no effect on us Klingons we never felt the need to develop counter agents nor further measures then high heat desensitization of any equipment, supplies, mined minerals and any workers brought aboard our ships. This is all we know.....=/\= Sov’leq said.

After a moment he added as if trying to be more pleasant and/or diplomatic =/\= Is there anything else? =/\= he said.

Lt Mullins then responded to the Klingon Captain =/\=Thank you for the report. I knew it was a long shot to have additional information. There is nothing else we need at this time==/\=. Max then said to the communications officer, “Thank you for opening the channel.” Max then looked over to the Commander and said, “You heard what they said. Would you like to take over the bridge?” Max then stood up and took a step away from the command chair for the Commander to sit down. He waited for the response and to see if the Commander was going to take a seat.

Joe smiled and shook his head. He laughed and said, “Well didn’t he act as though someone had gotten under his thick hide? It’s always a good day to see a Klingon get his blood pressure up a bit.” Joe chewed his bottom lip a moment as if in deep thought about something before he nodded and said to Mullins. “Yes, I’ll take over now and thank you for the good job, Lieutenant.”
