[snip]

After a moment of ceasing to exist the away team reappeared a few feet from where they had left off. They were again surrounded by various junk and ramshackle huts atop the big hill overlooking the lower larger settlement down below several hundred yards away.

Looking around no one was present natively which was good, but a few small sickly animals like tiny cats or dogs scurried off under cover into the junk heaps around at their arrival. When someone would deem to carefully look into the lower area below they would find much of the local aruging had it seem broken up. Two dead bodies stripped of anything useful though were in evidence near where the large cluster of natives hours earlier had been aruging. Given the gun shots and club beating marks, it seems two of the three arguing leaders had been shot or bludgeoned to death then stripped of anything useful to rot on the ground. Already a few tiny rodent like creatures were gnawing on their bodies.

Further afield among this mess near wood or metal huts or a few higher quality prebuilt huts/tents likely for favored natives of the klingons formerly natives went about their business it seems trying to eek out a living among the polluted area. Some were trying to farm, others sive water in different ways to be clean, others still took that to boil then. Another batch were busy weaving or cleaning clothes or bags of sorts, another batch doing some kind of trading or bartering, over all it was mostly a sort of normal life style.

But near the far end of this all stood what seems one of the few pieces of left behind junk of the klingons near a large blast site that probably once was home to far more advance tech that was demolition by the klingons when they left. A large 200 yard square metal container had been broken up over time it seems and rebuilt by hand into a sort of two story building. Several strange native symbols likely related to their religion were in evidence. The most prominent symbol was near the second floor in the middle overlaid on a large dirty window. It was clearly a Klingon empire three pointed symbol but then on its outside s octagonal like shape where on each edge had a smaller symbol of the native religion. From up here by long range viewing the away team could see a hazed figure looking out of the dirty window, and based on their movements was either doing some kind of puppet show with their hands, or more likely passionately talking to someone inside they couldn’t see.

After they were beamed down, Lance signaled to his team to make a small perimeter and to keep low. He pulled his phaser and crawled up the hill with a pair of binoculars.

“Let’s stick close together this time,” Glen told Lance. “Don’t wander too far up there!” From the XO’s very damning report, it appeared that wandering off was part of the problem last time, when two crew were bitten.

Hunter heard the Captain and he did not need to be told twice to stay within the group ,the doctor had no intention of straying or wondering anywhere.

Glen walked to where the Security held the girl and spoke to her using the UT. =/\= We have fed you. We have bathed you. You have not been mistreated. You have not been punished even though you have attacked and bitten two of my crew and slapped another. We have shown you kindness, while you have only replied in curses. We will now untie you and let you go back to your family in your village now. You can see that we are not demons, but if you try to attack us again then we will defend ourselves. =/\=

On hearing Glen speaking to the child Hunter was not so sure she could comprehend what was said to her ,in all probability all she would remember would be having been taken away from her parents , a different environment, examined in sickbay and worse knew who they were the ‘Demons’ the Klingon’s made them out to be .It was up to the team to convince and prove to the inhabitants that they were there to help them .

Pashi was in awe, she had never been on a planet that was not a fully developed Federation member, much less one that the Klingons had occupied. On hearing the captain speak to the girl she came over and smiled “juHDajDaq ghaH QongDaq, juHDaq yIjaH. jupwI’ Da’ongchugh, vaj maquvha’chuqtaHvIS. { Time to go home, my little friend. Remember we have tried to be as pleasant as we could given your actions to us.}” She then looked at the captain “I told her that she was free to go and that we tried to be as pleasant as we could to her, given her actions.” As she was saying this her antennae were twitching about at all the different sounds.

“Thank you,” replied the Captain. “My Klingon is a little rusty, although the UT did translate most of that, now you have worked out the language and Lt. Mullins has reprogramed them.”

The girl looked between Pashi then Glen, once freed, she said nothing and ran off up over the hill nimbly avoiding the worse of the trash and other junk around them before vanishing back down the hill. For the two security folks watching at her descent they saw her soon reach the bottom of the hill. She seemed then to wave her hands wildly above her head, shouting something they couldn’t hear or make out from this spot. A few of the natives looked up from their lively work and soon one woman came rushing out of one of the ramshackle huts leaning on several rusty barrels and a mining cart. The girl moved over to her seeming to speak quickly before pointing to the sky then making more hand gestures and speech before pointing up to the top of the hill.

Lance watch from his hiding area “sir if this gos south what you want us to do” Lance was thinking if anyone is going to come they might gather Warriors before checking the area they were in out.

“If they come with energy weapons then we beam back up like you did last time,” Glen replied. “Then I admit defeat, and I tell the Admiral to find some other canon-fodder. However, I somehow doubt that the Klingons left them any weapons of value… they didn’t leave them anything of value at all…” Glen demonstrated with hand gestures, the trash and junk that surrounded them. “If they come at us with knives and spears, then you deal with it as you see fit. I’m hoping that they will see sense, see that we aren’t demons, and we can eventually negotiate. That might take some time though.”

Pashi tilted her antennae forward toward where the girl was talking to the adult, she could barely make out what was being said. She shushed the group as she strained to hear the conversation. The polluted air of the planet assailed her nostrils, but she continued to listen, so she could inform the captain of what was being said.

  • Glen, CO

Lance looked at the CO with a smile “I don’t know about you captain but trash can be a dangerous weapon” he then continue to watch through his binoculars “Echo team use low stun only use force if your life is threatened” he said over the com to his team
