Astrid could not help herself, she returned Halai’s grin with one of her own. They were honestly trying to make the best of an awkward and potentially negative situation. She was glad to know her new friend had a good sense of humor. “Perhaps. Then again, it might just be a show for our benefit. Do you feel important? I feel important.” She winked.

Halai laughed lightly, letting some of the tension she had absorbed be released. “Oh wait for it. The press can make something out of almost nothing and then you’ll really feel special,” she teased Astrid.

Michael raised his good eyebrow as he moved to the front to grab Ylana’s jacket. He wasn’t about to let his wife leave without him. When he came back with her jacket, he put hand up to the other guests as he ushered her out.

What’s wrong Imzadi? he gently asked.

-Governor Michael Halloway

Ylana made a slow show of putting on her coat and to anyone around them it would appear she was just lost in her own thoughts. But the beauty of being bonded with a Human was that with her significant telepathic skills, she could easily communicate with Michael with none being the wiser. What? Besides there being a perhaps more powerful being on the planet? Or how about the fact that Leamas is using Morin’s visage to taunt me, while Archanon uses you? But there is the moment when Leamas tried to access my mind and forced him out. She turned and moved away and down the hall, hoping the others had moved on by now. But the best part just might be when Sharia and Stephens’ housekeeper deigned to forcefully lay her hands on me. Mark my words Michael, that woman is no simple housekeeper! She would know. She was a Daughter of the Fourth House and had had enough experience with house staff.” She turned to her husband finally. “You will probably want to say good bye to people. I’ll just wait for you in the skimmer,” she said, knowing full well their bodyguards would have had it ready for them as soon as it looked like they might be leaving.

Michael came back around to give one last good-bye. “Ladies and Gentlemen, its been a pleasure. I’m quite certain I will see you all and get to know you all better in coming times. We’ll have to organize another get together like this sometime. Until then, enjoy!” He bowed his head before moving to leave.

Astrid was trying her best to give Ylana space. It was obvious that she had some frustration or even anger. There was definitely something the matter, but she didn’t want to either burden or involve the other guests of the party. When she left, Astrid turned to Michael. “Perhaps next time will be less… dramatic. We will get to know one another better in time I think.”

Astrid Rousseau, HotJ

Michael inclined his head toward the judge. “I think you may be right. All in due time.” He gave his best grin before departing.

Outside, he entered the skimmer and spoke to her wordlessly. No need for the guards to know too much. What happened in there with their housekeeper? And what did you witness? He clearly had questions, but tried to keep them minimum until she was willing to share more.

-Governor Michael Halloway

Besides trying to physically stop me from going to find you? She grabbed me rather forcibly and she’s lucky I have as much discipline as I do. I was already keyed up by the presence of Leamas and this other being and you know when that happens how much harder my TK is to handle. And well… Ylana made sure they were outside of the house before she let even the thought float towards him, you know how much harder it is for me still when I’m hormonal. There, she had finally told him. He knew from when she was pregnant with Nikala how stress on top of the hormonal changes made her telekinetic abilities harder to keep in check. She had wanted to tell him earlier, but there had been so much going on since they arrived and this whole thing with Archannon and Leamas had been taking a lot of her focus, and that wasn’t even considering her helping Cosgrove with everything in the S&T Complex.

Halai turned to Astrid. “Well, feel like another drink or did you want to call it a night also?” She knew the party would probably likely start to disperse now that the governor had left. “We could always head back to my place. Guaranteed to be quieter,” she said with a grin.
