“Trust me Michael, if I had any other options right now, anyone one else I trusted more than Ylana, who also had the skills required, I would have gone to them. I have no interest in getting myself involved in your domestic happiness,” Morin replied.

“I did tell Elaine she could shoot him if he tried anything else that was stupid, so there is that,” Ylana remarked. For her part, Elaine just smirked.

Michael glanced between them all. He wasn’t happy with the situation, that was certain. But knowing there was security at the ready made things a bit easier. He trusted Ylana, he didn’t trust Morin.

Halloway sighed and crossed his arms as he faced Morin Tal. “Let’s have it. What’s going on?”

Morin looked at Ylana but she just shook her head and told him telepathically, Just get it over with.

With a sigh, Tal launched into his story. “Well, after I returned to Betazed after Ylana and I… went our separate ways, I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do. I ended up leaving Betazed and I joined a merchant group. We did mostly small deliveries for key clients and it was very basic work. I was given a small ship and a couple crew and we went about our business. But one client turned out to be a member of…” Morin trailed off and looked away and around the room as if someone might here.

“You’re perfectly safe here Morin,” Ylana said gently. “Cosgrove has amazing security, tonight’s exception not withstanding. You can speak freely here.”

Closing his eyes for a moment, Morin looked deeply troubled, though he tried to let that wash away as he opened his dark eyes. “He was a member of the Orion Syndicate.”

Ensign Anderson’s brows lifted but wisely she said nothing.

“The very long story short is that I was given a delivery to make but when I found out it was a Syndicate delivery, I refused. But they threatened to kill me. It seemed extreme for such a small delivery, so I actually looked at what it was and that’s when I realized I was in over my head. I couldn’t give them the items, because I feel pretty certain that if I did people, innocent people would die. So… I took the items and am now on the run.”

~Ylana & Morin

Michael listened closely. And when Morin finished, Michael immediately noticed how bad this could be. “And you thought it would be wise to bring it to Oed?” he asked, rhetorically. He sighed as he moved to look outside. As much as he didn’t particularly like Morin Tal, Michael Halloway was not one to refuse someone aide.

“No, I just didn’t know where else to go. When I realized what some of the items were I knew Ylana would be the best person to help me figure it out,” Morin said.

After a minute, the governor turned back to Tal. “We’ll do what we can. What was in the delivery? And where is it now?” he inquired.

“A case of data rods. Some of it is technical plans, the other is a ton of scientific data. I couldn’t make full sense of it, but I think, or rather I feel confident that it’s info for a weapon. There were references to impact and casualty predictions or something.”

Ylana had already heard this much but it still horrified her. “Who is to say that these data rods are the only copies?”

“No one,” Morin replied. “But they are obviously of high importance if they were threatening to kill me over them.”

~Ylana and Morin

Michael sighed. Of course something like this would be dumped into his lap. He needed to think though. Starfleet could likely want to know what was going on, and it could be up to Ylana to notify them.

He turned to his wife. “Go ahead and find out what is on these data rods. If it is some sort of weapon, we need to know.”

Ylana nodded. There would be more to say to Michael, but later- now was not the time.

The governor then turned to Morin Tal. “I’m going to have to notify some of my staff. Being prepared is our best option. Is there anything else I need to know, Morin?” He already had in mind to let the Lt. Governor know as well as the Police Chief and starfleet CoS. Science was already informed as of now. Whatever else Morin had to share would dictate the possibility of more needing to know.

-Governor Michael Halloway

Tal looked rather weary at this point. “That’s pretty much it. Do what you have to, but discreetly. If the Syndicate finds out I’m here, then there will be trouble.”

“For us too,” Ylana said, and both men would know there was anger under the polite surface. Ylana glanced briefly at Ensign Anderson. “We’ll have to talk to Longstreet, but it might be good if Elaine provided protection.” Not just for Morin but for anyone else around that might get caught in the cross-fire. “I’ll stay here and investigate the rods, and I don’t mind if Morin stays here since it’s secure, unless you want him elsewhere,” she said to Michael.

Deep down, he wanted to put him isolation. Even his own office was pretty secure. Then again, he did not want to have to deal with any funny business he might conjure up. “Very well,” he stated, though she would know he was not fond of the idea of him being here. “Ensign, keep a very close eye on him. And if you must use force within reason, then by all means do so.”

He then turned to Ylana. “Let me know if you need anything. I’ll be meeting with the Lt. Governor, the police Commissioner, and SF Security. Let me know when you have a lead.”

He then turned to leave, clearly not pleased with the situation at hand.
