Sofi’s eyebrows rose as she listened to the quick explanation. “Of course I can assist you Commander, though I have to wonder how on earth it got to be so late in handling such an important and required document?” She asked as she walked through the hallways until it opened out into a large, spacious room with nicer cubicles than most companies had. Each one had a large console taking up most of the desk space. Fingers flew over the screens, updating documents, filing documents, creating new ones, adding scheduled events and docket clearing. Everyone was working and looked busy as they passed.

Ylana knew she’d have to explain at least some of this, but there was a part of her that hoped she wouldn’t have to get in to it. “There’s been a significant change in my life recently and I’m about to do something within the bounds of my Starfleet duties that carries significant risk. It’s vital that my wishes on a specific matter be recorded so that my loved ones don’t have to worry about guesses, should something go badly. I would have gone to my commanding officer but time is short and I was in the Government Tower and… you were closer.”

Soon they passed the majority of the cubicles to come to a separate desk easily twice the size of the others and on its own before Judge Rousseau’s office. “Here we are. Let me pull up the form I need to sign stating I am your witness and the filing clerk for you so you don’t have to go somewhere separate to have it filed.”

Sofi.

“Thank you, I’m grateful for your help,” Ylana said sincerely with a small smile. “I can also pull up my current Living Will and we can simply make a direct amendment, yes?”

~Ylana Eviros, CSO

Ah. She understood now. Sofi nodded politely as her fingers moved across the console, bringing up the required document for signatures and then, at her directive, pulling up the Living Will of Lieutenant Commander Ylana Eviros, current Chief Science Officer of OED V. Then with another flick of her finger, a privacy shield erupted around the confines of the desk and surrounding area. No sound would escape and there seemed to be a sort of holographic shimmer to the shield which kept all documentation from being able to be seen outside the shielded area.

“Alright. I have brought up the documentation requested. Now, with the Living Will change, I am required to have you tell me what change you want made. Then either you or I could make it but the witness has to have verbal verification of a change being made. If it is alright with you, in the interest of saving time, I would like you to simply recite to me the change you want made. I am more familiar with this equipment and can likely type it in much faster than you. No offense intended.”

She poised herself, ready to slip aside should Ylana decide she wanted to type in the changes herself, but also ready to begin transcribing the verbal change to the documentation as regulation demanded.

Sofi.
