Ylana shook her head. “No, no, you can do it, I don’t mind. You’re right, it’ll be faster.”

Taking a deep breath, Eviros closed her eyes and simply stated what she needed. “In the section about life saving measures, I wish to amend it so that should I be critically injured bodily or mentally, all measures should be taken to preserve the life of my unborn child, if at all possible, and even if it means I myself may not survive. However, If the issue is one of confirmed irreversible mental damage, and I require life support, including if I am in a coma and unlikely to ever wake up, I wish to be kept alive only so long as my unborn child requires it. After that, I do not with to be a burden on my family,” she said confidently as she opened her eyes, though her voice had gotten more quiet towards the end.

She just couldn’t bear the idea of Michael having to make such an impossible choice and she knew in the end, if she could not be there to watch her children grow up, she didn’t want him stuck in some limbo existence waiting for something that would never happen.

Sofi added the addendum and put in all the requisite legalese. It did take time, but in less than 10 minutes, she had completed all the necessary changes to the Living Will, signed it and the accompanying document, and stepped back so Ylana could sign as well. She showed no signs of surprise or emotion. Having no way of knowing if the pregnancy was something Ylana wanted or feared, Sofi felt it was best to keep herself in a strictly polite professional manner when handling the transition of documentation.

“Lieutenant Commander Ylana Eviros, current Chief Science Officer assigned to OED V, I hereby verbally accept these changes and have placed them in writing at your behest in your official Living Will. These documents once signed by you, will be filed officially with OED V Government and Star Fleet’s personnel records. Please sign that you agree to the changes having been made where the blinking lights indicate.”

Sofi.

Inhaling deeply, there was a look of relief that appeared briefly on Ylana’s face. She reached forward the gave her thumbprint to confirm her authorization. But as she did, she felt a wave of emotion that she couldn’t fully clamp down on. “Thank you for your assistance,” Eviros said softly. “I should, uh, get going. They’re expecting me shortly.”

Sofi felt compassion for the woman and it showed in her honest face. It was obviously an emotional moment for her and while Sofi could not know if it was good emotion or sad emotion, or fear or levity that filled her, she did what she could for the Commander. With the thumbprint applied, the documents were officially certified and began their automatic copying and routing to the proper places. The force field around them shut off and Ylana was free to go. But before she could, Sofi touched her arm gently. “I wish you the best of luck Commander.”

Sofi

Eviros set her ark eyes on Sofi and they filled with gratitude. “Thank you,” she said softly. “I’m sure it will be fine, but I feel better knowing that I took care of this seemingly small detail.”

With a bow of her head, the CSO took her leave of the judicial offices.
