OOC: This is a player-run simulation that is designed to be a continuation of the reception at Shinzak’s mansion following the events of Nicholas James’ intrusion. This is a private PRSIM. Whoever plays Nicholas James is welcome to join in. Characters on OED V will be mentioned as time goes along and asked to join.

IC:

“Previous, On Star-Fleet OED V”

The background for this simulation lies in the intrusion of Nicholas James into Shinzak’s mansion. Now, Shinzak does not know who Nicholas James is but knows that he impersonated a terraforming CEO. He expelled him from his mansion, but realized quite quickly that this incident was worth investigating before the real Nicholas James was made to hate Shinzak.

And now, the conclusion…

Shinzak had to move quickly if he was to out-maneuver the intruder. It was unlikely that this intruder would rest on their laurels, as nobody tries to invade another person’s home without reason. How would he maneuver around this? He couldn’t go to the cabinet offices, as that would take too much time. He couldn’t chase the intruder down the street because that would be harassment. What would he do? Simple! He had a secret operations room in his basement accessible to nobody but him.

Waltzing away from the reception with blinding ease and utter subtlety, he moved into his war room of sorts. Flipping on the communications table, he would immediately call in all his associated.

“OED V Mining Corporation, this is Chief Executive Shinzak of Remus. All team leaders report in.”

Within seconds, the processing chief, the security chief and the exploration chief had reported in.

“Alright people, we’ve had a security breach at OED V MC 1…”

That was that say his mansion.

”…we need to catch this intruder because he’s impersonating a VIP. Any suggestions?”

A brainstorming session then ensued. By the end of the session, the security chief had made an elegant proposition. There needed to be a way to prove there was a stolen identities scenario. They already had evidence of the intrusion. They already had evidence of the man’s name. They already had evidence of him being a terraforming CEO. This was not enough however to arrest him. They had to prove that he had deliberately stolen a man’s identity to enter somewhere.

Now, contrary to popular belief, there is no chance whatsoever of this being a case of mistaken identities. A terraforming CEO on a shuttle headed for OED V with the same name and same appearance as another self-professed terraforming CEO is more than likely criminal impersonation.

How would Shinzak proceed? It was not criminal to do what the intruder did, mind you. He could not simply charge the intruder with anything. However, because the intruder had trespassed into his home and impersonated another, the other could sue him for damaged and force him to reveal who he was. This was a good strategy, but they needed to gain evidence that the other existed.

Shinzak knew the other was on a shuttle headed to OED V as the mining executives spoke. A lesser sentient would’ve attempted to contact that shuttle and establish communication and get a confirmation. Not Shinzak. See, Shinzak had deduced quite quickly that this would be futile, because the intruder had a mole inside the terraforming executive’s shuttle, most probably his communications officer. How did he deduce this? Well, it was quite simple. You’re impersonating a VIP. You need to keep constant awareness of where this terraforming executive was to prevent the two from being seen at the same time or being outed as a faker. You had to do so before he landed, to he wouldn’t be seen entering the colony and have you outed. This meant he needed someone who could watch him closely and prevent any kind of communication if his identity were deduced. The mole could likely not be reasoned with and won’t give any news.

How would Shinzak proceed? First, he dismissed his exploration chief and processing chief because they would no longer be of use. He kept only the security chief on line. Now, it was very likely that the terraforming CEO would meet with whoever was doing this intrusion at the gates. It was the only way to hold Shinzak responsible. He needed to move quickly to intercept whatever the intruder was planning.

Now, he came up with an elegant idea. He would be completely able to circumnavigate the communications mole and get directly to Ramsay.

How would he go about doing this? Simple. The only way to get to Ramsay directly was by sending him For-Your-Eyes-Only terraforming information that would circumnavigate the secretary and inform him of what was going on. Doing this was simple: get with the terraforming chief to send him a classified memo with a warning about what was about to happen. This would imply calling the terraforming chief directly.

Using his communication device, he would find a way to call the Head of Terraforming on whatever device she could reach. He’d then call her.

OOC: Nicholas James and the Head of Terraforming welcome to respond.

SoR, HoMO

Nicholas had taken care to bring the real Nicholas Ramsay into his hideout in the government sector. “I’m very confused Mr…”
“You don’t need to know. We share a first name, use that. Last night I covered up your arrival. Which was not easy. Now you’re going to return the favour.”
“If you want money-“
“I want you to shut up and listen. You weren’t on a shuttle last night. You were at a soirée thrown by the Head of Mining Operations. A Reman man named Shinzak.”
“Ok… Why?”
“You don’t need to know, all you need to know is that you’ve been here approximately 15 hours longer than you actually have.” A call came in. “Shinzak, what do I say?”
“Act natural. You didn’t interact with many people, you were just schmoozing to try and get your biosphere deal rolling.” The real Nicholas Ramsay answered. “Go for Ramsay.”

-Nicholas James, Section 31/Nicholas Ramsay, CEO

OOC: I am waiting for the Terraforming Chief to post before responding.

Luke P

As the terraforming chief did not respond, Shinzak decided to seek out the CEO by himself. He knew that it was entirely possible both fake Ramsay and real Ramsay were working together (given the mole inside Ramsay’s delegation might be Ramsay himself, for all he knew).

Shinzak left downstairs to find Preston Longstreet, the head of security. He’d be able to know if Ramsay had already landed and would know where to find him.

OOC: Whoever plays Longstreet please respond to this.

SoR, HoMO

OOC: That would be me,
IC:

Longstreet was in his office in the Security Building going over the latest intel reports from field officers, customs etc..He had his mind on this newest threat that the Captain had briefed him on. Another invisible Oed conspiracy. He had his fill of those by now on this planet.

Longstreet COS

Shinzak rushed over to the security building, arriving within a surprising time at the CoS’ office. A chime would ring.

SoR, HoMO

A security ensign greeted him as the door swooshed open. He had already been scanned prior to the door opening and cleared of possessing weapons. This was a first step into the secure zone and the small area that was behind the officer was like the old security checkpoints in airports and courthouses of old. Another translucent sliding glass was beyond this area.

¨Starfleet Security how can we assist you.¨ The ensign said looking friendly but capable as well.

Longstreet COS

Security feeds were constantly changing on the screen on one wall of the Security Center. As Longstreet was moving from one station to the next he saw a flash of the Security Center front. He saw someone who looked familiar approaching the building. However the screen flashed to another zone and he continued his work.

Longstreet

“This is the Chief of Mining Operations. I require to see the Chief of Security. Urgent. Your clearance is not high enough to know why, Ensign.”

SoR, HoMO

The Ensign looked at the man strangely. My clearance is not high enough? Who does this guy think he is? An old earth spy?

“Uh yea. So you do not have an appointment?”

The scanners were already telling the ensign who this man was. Shinzak and he was the Chief of Mining.

“I will need to speak to the Chief. Please wait here for one minute.” He said and turned sharply around and went into the inner door which closed behind him.

“Chief a Mr. Shinzak is here to see you. Seems pretty worked up. Saying things like an ensigns clearance is not high enough to speak too. Honestly Sir I have no idea.” The Ensign said once he located Longstreet.

“I got it Ensign. Carry on.” He said and left the ensign to go about his business.

A few seconds later the door swooshed open and Longstreet greeted Shinzak.

“Mr. Shinzak. Good to see you. Come on in.” He welcomed the man in and led him towards his office.

Longstreet

OOC: BUMP

Longstreet

“Hello, commander Longstreet. I have some dire news. That intrusion at my residence earlier might have been by some hostile force. It is imperative we discuss this at once.”

SoR, HoMO

The door had closed behind them and Longstreet sat down at his chair behind his desk.

“Please.” Longstreet indicated the seat in front of the desk. “Do tell?”

Longstreet CoS

“My intelligence units have found out this Nicholas Ramsay character (who intruded into my home) was not even on OED V at the time of the reception we had earlier. Which means someone was impersonating him. I need your camera access to monitor his movements, because, for all I know, that impersonator might have made contact with him as of now.”

SoR, HoMO

OOC: Ok now I am going to follow some logical conclusions that will guide some of the replies.
IC:

“Mr. Shinzak I am not sure what you mean about intelligence units. Private citizens of Oed are not allowed militarized intelligence units. Private collection of legal information. Corporate espionage operatives and security detail units are of course ok. I really hope you do not have private contractors taking military, police or Sf type actions and I am sure that is not what you meant.” Longstreet looked at Shinzak as if to say this was his out and it would be wise to take it.

“Second we did not disregard your concerns. A check of customs and immigration records shows that Nicholas Ramsey arrived before your party and is here for the exact reason previously discussed.” Longstreet answered.

OOC: I’m figuring based off the reply by Intelligence that he had tampered with the records and as an intel officer has that skill and clearances to do this well. A detailed back end investigation would discover it but not a cursory search like what would have been done.
IC:

“I am sorry but SF is not in the habit of turning over access to security feeds to citizens with a civil complaint. What exactly do you think is happening because I hear a lot of conjecture Mr. Shinzak with no substantive evidence to support it. A man “crashed ” a private non security or confidential party. He was told to leave and did. This is not a crime or a security breach.”

Longstreet

Longstreet hesitated. “Well it could be construed on a personal level as a security breach. At best this is a case for the Oed police. I understand your concern but not your reaction.”

OOC: Keeping in mind I am going off the fact that James had covered his tracks at least nominally well.

Longstreet COS

BUMP but patient

Longstreet

Shinzak sighed.

“Alright, commander. I’ll have to contact Karlson.”

Shinzak then promptly proceeded to call the police commissioner using his PADD.

SoR. HoMO
Longstreet shrugged as if to say very well. He had answered the man as honestly as possible. The records check did not reveal anything. Well in truth he did not personally do it. It was given to a trustworthy ensign who forwarded the check results to him. At any rate nothing had come back. Longstreet saw no need for him to be present as Shinzak made the call.

“If you will excuse me or in reality yourself Mr. Shinzak. I am, contrary to popular belief, very busy. Longstreet said and offered his hand toward the door which swooshed open upon him pushing the button his desk.

Upon Longstreet prompt, Shinzak left as the phone rang at Karlson’s office. He proceeded to wait in the lobby.

Normally most calls to the Police Commissioners line were redirected to either his secretary or any of the personnel on his floor in the Government Tower, however, Joseph had long since installed a specific function that all Cabinet members and Starfleet Department Heads would be allowed direct contact. After only half a minutes wait the PaDD screen lit up with the face of Joseph Karlson smiling “Mister Shinzak, how can I be of assistance?” He asked in his usual calm tone.

Commissioner Karlson

Longstreet

“Do you have access to customs records by any chance? I need you to verify something for me. It’s urgent.”

SoR, HoMO

Josephs’s smile widened just the tiniest bit “Do you?” He asked in an almost teasing manner “And what, pray tell, is so urgent?” his tone although jovial retained a hint of seriousness, he was after all being asked for official police assistance.

Commissioner Karlson

Longstreet was watching via the cctv with the sound. Basically he could hear any conversation he wanted to hear in the Security Office. He was interested in why this Shinzak was so obsessed with this man.

Longstreet

Shinzak spoke inaudibly to even Longstreet’s secretary. The CoS, even via CCTV, could not hear.

“I am convinced that intruder was part of some conspiracy to harm me somehow. Nobody does that without reason.”

SoR, HoMO

“I’m sorry I’m going to need you to speak up, I can’t quite hear you” Joseph said quite loudly “You think you’re going to be harmed, why do you think that?” His tone quite serious “Don’t you think this is something best discussed in person?” He asked with a raised eyebrow.

Commissioner Karlson.

“I will be at the police HQ stat. Expect me.”

This would be said clearly audibly to Longstreet, who wouldn’t suspect much just from that.

OOC: Please do not assign actions or reactions to other persons characters. They will react to the comments in the manner the character would normally do so in a similar situation. Thank you.

IC: Longstreet had not heard what Shinzak had said but did pick up the request to speak louder by Karlson and something about Shinzak thinking he was to harmed. Longstreet opened his terminal and started an investigative file on Shinzak as a person of interest. The man was not behaving like a profile Reman executive he had ever seen. The best thing was him to go see Karlson. If there was a criminal act involved here then it was his jurisdiction. House party crashers was not his thing.

Shinzak then moved to his vehicle and proceeded to bolt as quick as he could to the police HQ, where he immediately asked the entrance staff to see Karlson.

SoR, HoMO

Since Shinzak has potentially blown a cover identity, no one batted an eye when he was placed under high grade surveillance. “My, my. Mr Shinzak keeps himself busy.” The real Nicholas Ramsay looked panicked. “Shouldn’t we be worried?”
“Mr Ramsay, this is the Intelligence world. There’s always a solution. Right now the solution is to let one overeager Reman embarrass himself in front of Starfleet Security and local Police. He is the boy who cried wolf. Man had invitation, was asked to leave, politely did so. No crime was committed on Mr Shinzak’s property last night.”

-Nicholas James, Section 31

OOC: Correction. Ramsay did not have an invitation.

Luke P

OOC: He had the forgery, made using samples from other invitations. It looked authentic, even to Shinzak at the time.

-Sam

“But I didn’t have an invitation!” Ramsay said. “Finally. You’re getting to the point. You had this.” The CIO tossed Ramsay a PaDD with a forged invitation on it. “The story goes, it was delivered to your office by mistake. You had inquired about entry, and through oversight, received an invitation. Your name had been noted down as someone to point out to Shinzak. One mistake snowballs… All of our bases are covered. That’s even signed by Mr Shinzak. I believe the signature was taken from the Chief of Police’s invite.”

-Nicholas James, Section 31

Longstreet CoS

At the entrance of the Police floor of the Government building, a uniformed officer waited for Shinzak and wordlessly escorted him through the groups of people. On the other end of the floor, a large double-sided oak door. The Officer nodded to the Secretary seated next to the door who pressed a button and exchanged a few words. A moment later the door opened revealing a sizeable office. On the left three rows of shelves filled to the brim with books, pictures, and memorabilia from Josephs long career as both a Marine and Police Chief. On the right, there was a drinks cabinet, an empty corner with a door and next to the large window a leather sofa and two large armchairs opposite a coffee table. Joseph was seated behind a large wooden desk with a few picture frames, a collection of PaDDs and other assorted office tools, a computer screen and a book. There were two chairs in front of the desk, in the Chair on the left a man in a slightly dirty jacket was leaning back with his legs on the Commissioners desk. Behind desk sat the Commissioner himself wearing a white shirt and dark blue waistcoat. Behind him, on his right, a coat hanger with a Blue Jacket and a large coat hung, on his left two flags were prominently displayed. The UFP Flag and the Oed V Government Flag.’

Joseph looked up for a moment then finished handwriting something down in the book on his desk. He closed the book and stood up “Mr. Shinzak, I believe you have some conspiracy or another to speak with me about?” The older man smiled slightly, removing the spectacles from his face and placing them on his desk.

Commissioner Karlson

“I believe my house has been the site of a calculated break in. I need some help with investigating that.”
