It had taken a week for the raven haired pilot to get settled in. Between shift reports and duty rosters, and just getting her Wing together enough to get back on some semblance of a training schedule, she hadn’t had much time to explore. Now, with a rest day ‘finally’ on her calendar, Katherine decided to see what she could find.

After lunch, and some wandering that got her turned around a time or two, she wound up in a large hanger with the most stunning ship she had ever seen. Nodding to folks here and there and walking with enough confidence and purpose to not draw questions, she walked up to the Black Sparrow and started walking around it. She couldn’t help but reach out and run her hand over its surface. She attempted to find a way in, just to see what she could see, but by the time she reached the back, she had had no luck.

With no regards to her clothes, a pair of jet black leggings that matched her hair, tucked into calf high black boots, and a deep crimson tunic top that was tucked in to the high waistband, she climbed up the maintenance rack set behind the exhaust ports and took a peek. “Oh, girl… aren’t you a beauty!”

It wasn’t long before she had climbed up into the exhaust and was looking at the safety screen and the open work panel before her. From the outside, all anyone saw were her legs from the knees down, sticking out and occasionally kicking up absently like a child laying and watching a holo program. Inside, she was looking and poking, taking mental notes to try and suss out the system, but was extra cautious not to move or touch anything vital. She was no novice when it came to mechanics. She often worked on her own fighter. But this… this was something that made her skin goose with excitement. She was humming and the resonance of it echoed slightly from the large metal cylinder she was tucked into.

Conrad quietly walked up to the exhaust port. Katrina had alerted him of a potential intruder, however he had not expected to find the stranger with their legs hanging out of his own ship. He quietly strolled up. No need to raise any alarm until he found out who it was. He leaned down and happened to look in. Still no idea who it was, though the hips confirmed it was a woman.

“Careful!” he spoke up. “There was a big burly Klingon working on this up here. What happened to him, I wonder?”

His weapon was secured inside the ship, so he was unarmed, but he was always ready for anything. She’d either end up talking to him or fighting with him. His dark leather pants and jacket fit to his form. He had not shaved for about a week, so a 5 o’clock shadow was evident. He waited for her to get out.

“AHHH” A dull thud and cry of alarm were followed by the startled woman scooting backwards out of the ship till she was kneeling in front of the port. Her dark black hair, neatly braided some time ago, was coming loose where it had been catching here and their in her exploring. And the front of her shirt, once a smooth crimson sheet down the front of her body was smeared with exhaust dust, grease and finger marks as she tugged it down from having crept up on her escape from the exhaust. She had a smear of exhaust on her cheek where she had been leaning on the interior wall.

Conrad raised an eyebrow at her.

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t touch anything, I promise.” She stood up, her hand balancing her on the ship as a moment of vertigo rushed to her head. Then she rubbed her hands on her slacks, doing little more than create small clear spots, and offer one. “I’m Prescott, Katherine Prescott, new Wing Leader. Forgive me, but she’s so lovely I couldn’t help myself.” She was blushing, though it was hard to tell. She just hoped he wasn’t security come to lock her up.

Which would be a horrible way to meet a man who looked that nice. Her eyes couldn’t help looking him up and down with a hint of approval.

Conrad took her hand carefully, but firmly. “Katherine Prescott, the name is Michael Conrad, captain of this ship. Are you’re sure you didn’t touch anything?” He obviously didn’t believe her, given her current ragged state. Despite it all, he took in her figure and caught her eyes wandering. A slight grin took hold in his features upon the realization. “Something I can help you with?”

She laughed and tried to brush off the front of her blouse. It only succeeded in smearing the dust more. “Well, the panel that’s off in there was the way. So, yes, I admit I moved it perhaps two feet to the right so I could see in. But I can replace it in its exact location on the floor again if you wish.” Her brows rose almost teasingly to see if he truly wished to crawl back in there to slide a two foot square panel a foot back into place on the bottom of the intake.

Conrad waved a hand at the pipe. “Don’t even worry about it. I’ll have someone else take care of it,” he said knowing full well, Kanok had been the one working there. A slight surprise for him, but one Conrad would easily explain.

“A pleasure to meet you. As to what you can help with, my curiosity.” She smiled a bit brighter, her hand rising once more to rest on the rim of the intake, extra care taken to not cut herself on the exhaust fins. Admiration clear on her face. “I’ve never seen anything like it and would love to see more.” She cocked her head and grinned with mischief. “Think of is as assurance you won’t come tomorrow and find me poking my head in another work space.”

Conrad put a hand on the ship to lean on for support as he looked her over. “Never seen anything like her, eh? What is it you want to see? You’ve already gotten a good look at her exhaust port so I imagine you’re good there?” he teased. Why was she so interested in his ship of all around? Perhaps time would tell.

His smile made her wonder if he was flirting or leering. Deciding to give as well as she got, she turned slightly to face him with a large smile. “Well… I have seen how she runs, how about how she handles? Can I see the cockpit?” She looked him in the eyes as if daring him to look away. She’d been around the hangers and pilots and mechs long enough to be able to hang with the boys. She was no stranger to flexing.

Michael raised his eyebrows curiously. “Let me think. Should I let someone who I just met enter my precious ship and get a look at the main controls of an advanced ship? Hard for me to say yes, though I am curious how it benefits me?” He kept his eyes trained on her, curious to her answer. He held his ground and held it well.

She smiled and looked at him, her head cocked to the side. For just a moment, she had the look of a curious bird. What was he looking for? “Perhaps you get a friend who is willing also see the preciousness of the ship, help you when she can, and even give you someone you can talk to about her without fear of giving up secrets to random strangers.” She broadened her smile as her chin rose slightly teasing. “After all, I’ve seen the dirty side, perhaps you’d want me to think of her as more than just exhaust ash and cold black steel.” She hoped tapping on his vanity would help her cause.
