A few days after her return to Oed V, Morra found herself in one of the colony’s small Cafes, seated in a chair at a table and holding a hot mug of Orange Pekoe Tea between her hands. She was waiting for Astrid to show up, having arrived a few minutes earlier than their planned meeting time. She took a quiet sip of the tea, enjoying the warmth it spread through her body.

“Your Honor?” Sofi poked her head into Astrids office, her grey hair falling over one shoulder as she smiled. “You have a lunch scheduled at the cafe down the street with all those delicious teas in about 15 minutes.”

Astrid looked up realized she was being spoken to. When in the middle of researching a case, she could sometimes become rather unreachable. After a few blinks she figured out what Sofi had said, linking everything in her mind in a rush. “Oh yes. Thank you Sofi. I should only be gone for an hour or two. Only contact me if you have something important. With the Governor going and Halai already gone… I am feeling a rather strong need to find some kinship even if it is just for a cup of tea and a light lunch.”

She stood and went to her coat rack, putting on the small hat that matched her suit as well as her suit jacket she had discarded for the duration of her research time. (https://i.imgur.com/UMsrkJP.jpg). Then she turned to Sofi. “Alright. Ill see you in a bit.” and off she went.

Astrid arrived at the cafe almost 15 minutes later, stepping in the doorway of a cafe she knew well enough having eaten here for lunch quite a few times. She smiled kindly to the lady at the counter and made her order before turning around slowly to find her lunch partner. Her smile widened as she recognized the woman from her photo and she walked over to join her. “Morra?”

Morra was difficult to miss. With a face rather like that of a Gorn, but notably more slender and streamlined, and scales a deep shade of crimson, she certainly stood out in a crowd. A half-lidded gaze slid over Astrid as she arrived, then eyes snapped open and Morra met the woman’s gaze.

“I am Morra, yes. That would make you Astrid, I expect? You should try this Orange Pekoe. It is quite good.”

She put her tea down and folded her hands together, leaning her elbows onto the table. “I am pleased to meet you. My absence has been far too long, I am afraid I am rather behind on the news of what has been going on in my time back on Homeworld.”

“Yes, I am Astrid. Thank you, I would love some.” She smiled warmly as she sat down, taking the pin out of her hat so she could take it off and placing them together on the seat beside her. She quickly and gracefully poured herself a cup of the offered tea, fixing it with some basic adjustments to cream and sugar. Then she tasted it before adding a bit more of both. “Yes that is quite good.”

Finally she returned her attention to the woman across from her. The justice system dealt with all species and she had seen Morra’s before. Her scales were a beautiful shade and Astrid admired them silently. “We have had some uptick in gang related activity and the Governor is leaving. I have not met his replacement yet. Have you?”

Morra’s family, a group of seven individuals, were the only ones of their species on Oed V, but they had gotten around. Her brother, Basa, had been involved in several cases within the justice system as a witness and police consultant, as he was a member of the police force on the colony.

“I have not. I only got back to the dome the day before yesterday,” Morra replied. She blinked slowly, her eyelid coming in from the side, then took another slow sip of the hot tea. Gang activity. That did not sound good. She would have to remind herself to contact her brood-brother and inquire after his health. “Are you aware of the reason for the Governor’s departure?”
