Setting: A darkened bedroom: Earth
Doris, who had mere hours earlier, gone to bed alone and dressed in her nightie, woke with a start and a scream. She was no longer alone, and she no longer was dressed in her nightie.

In fact a man was with her, and her state of undress and his state of undress made her realise what had happened.

“Do not be afraid, beautiful Doris of Earth, for I have picked you as my mate, lowly you, wearer of hatpins, possessor of the ability to spread rumours at a rate faster than a galaxy class starship at warp 9.999 and more protective of your boss’s diary than a horta whose young have been threatened or removed from her care,” the man said, “you should be thankful for the opportunity I am giving you to have the fruit of my loins. Look at what I have to offer and tell me good ol’ George can offer anything like this.”

She glanced at him up and down, taking in his facial features - the piercing blue eyes, the chiselled jaw line, the wavey golden shoulder length hair, the slight indication of stubble on his chin and cheeks, then down to his torso, the muscular shoulders and arms, the well toned upper torso and six pack abs, the strong, muscular thighs and upper legs, the well developed pair of … kneecaps (where did you think I was going? This is PG 13+, folks, and Oed V, not after dark in discord), and his lower legs and feet. He turned and she blushed an even deeper red as his buttocks were on display, but her eyes suddenly went to the clothes on the floor.

“You … are … Starfleet?” She gasped seeing the black and mustard on the ground.

“I am Starfleet,” he replied, though it seemed to be framed as a question as opposed to anything else. He snapped his fingers and suddenly he was clothed again.

There was banging on the door, and the voice of George Easter floated in, “Doris? You all right?” The concern on his voice was easy to pick out.

Doris’ visitor left in what she knew was a transporter beam of some kind. Then the door opened, well smashed would be more a more appropriate description. And George: chubby, out of shape George; was there, dressed in his boxers, and Doris, love handles and all, dressed in naught but her birthday suit, collapsed in his arms.

“I had a visitor, an unwanted visitor. I think I am pregnant, George,” and she began crying. George patted her on the head, and said, “well, I am here for you, I won’t abandon you or the child.”

Charles, of course, stumbled into the scene at this stage and of course the youth only heard George’s reply and misinterpretted what had happened. He stared, slack jawed, at both Doris and George.

“You two are having a baby? Why smash the door?” Before a response was made, he left the scene … to post about his boss, George Easter having a child with his PA, Doris on SpaceFace.

… And THAT is how Doris became pregnant and how the rumours began that George Easter was the father!

Of course an office on Earth in the 24th Century is as much as a rumour mill, if not more of a rumour mill than an office on Earth in the 21st Century. Thanks to Charles’ SpaceFace post, what Charles’ mates at school told their parents who told their friends who told their mother’s dressmaker’s, cousin’s hairdresser’s cat herding nephew who happened to be brother in law of Ken Easter Junior (current owner of the family business) got garbled into George Easter and his secretary Doris were having a secret love tryst with members of the Vissian species, apparently there were multiple outcomes possible according to the story that Ken Easter Junior’s brother-in-law told Ken when they were engaged in a game of golf at St Andrews on Earth.

“My brother did WHAT?” exploded Ken, causing a flock of birds to rise into the air in a chorus of squawks and other cries of protest and alarm, and a golfer at a nearby hole to miss a putt from 5 cm away from the hole.

His brother-in-law repeated the story, though this time, a betazoid woman of middle years was also in the story. Ken abruptly called an end to the game of golf, called his private secretary and told her to have his younger brother, George in his office waiting for him when he arrived back there.

George, who had spent the day trying to console Doris, and work out why Charles was avoiding him, was surprised to get the summons to meet with his brother. He was even more surprised to see Ken looking steamed when he arrived and curtly told him to come into his office.

No sooner than the door was shut behind them, but Ken began to explore the full extent of his vocabulary in Federation common. After he reached the end of it, he began to branch out into other languages, the guttural sounds of Klingon, the raspy Cardassian, the nasally high pitched sounds of the Ferengi language and the thickly accented Betazoid got a guernsey, as well as some languages George could only guess at. George gathered that he must have done something, something ‘disgraceful and shameful to the Easter name and company’, but George had no idea what it was, and he decided to let his brother get it out of his system.

Gradually, slowly Ken calmed down, and George took the opportunity to get them both a synthenale from the office replicator.

“Ken, I honestly don’t know what you’re so upset about,” George said to his older brother, once the synthenale began to work its magic.

“Ron heard that you and you PA of yours, Doris, isn’t it?” A nod from George and so Ken continued, “you and Doris are having a romance on company time and with company resources, that you got Doris pregnant and that some how three members of the Vissian species (one of each gender) as well as a Betazoid woman of advanced years were involved. It is highly inappropriate … you fool, what were you thinking?”

“We are doing … WHAT?” George asked, and he explored the extent of his language as he paced around the office, shaking his arms. With effort, he calmed himself down enough to form a coherent sentence.

“I can assure you there is NOTHING going on between and Doris, and I’ve never even seen a Vissian, let alone had any kind of interaction with them,” George said, returning to his seat as he sipped at his synthonale.

“So you mean that Doris not pregnant, that you and she did not …” Ken asked.

“Doris and I am not an item. I have not had sex with her, I do not have those sorts of feelings for her, she is a competent PA, but beyond our professional working relationship and our limited social interactions, we have no real contact,” George replied, “but there was something that happened last night.” And George proceeded to tell his brother about the screaming from Doris and his arrival on the scene and then the arrival of Charles, his work experience student. George cut off suddenly, and then said, “you can access SpaceFace from here?” off his brother’s nod, George went and brought up the teen’s SpaceFace profile and posts and he spoke of the events of the past night to those who followed him. A few of them were interested in a description of Doris beyond ‘she wasn’t wearing anything’, but he didn’t go any further than that.

“So where do we go from here?” George asked his brother.

You have to get that sorted, George,” Ken replied, “I have to prepare in the event that news on this gets out. Deal with it, please, this could be embarrassing for the business. I am sorry, George, but that’s all the time I’ve got for this. Deal with it, please.”

Ken showed his younger brother to the door of his office, and half pushed him out the door. The door was shut after him. George looked at the door, and mouthed to the closed door, “but what about Doris? Isn’t this more embarrassing for her?”

“Congratulations, I can confirm you are pregnant,” the Doctor said to Doris. On hearing the news, she burst into tears.

“There are numerous options if you don’t want the baby,” the Doctor added.

She wiped her eyes, and said, “no, I want the baby, I just thought it would be with someone I loved, that’s all. Not a random Starfleet officer.”

The Doctor’s eyes opened wide, “I see? A Starfleet officer? Do you know the officer’s name?”

“No.”

“His ship?”

“No.”

“Are you going to see him again?”

“I don’t think so.”

“I don’t mean to judge, Doris, but …”

“Doctor, I didn’t know him. I went to bed in my nightie, I locked my door. I woke up, undressed, he was on me, I screamed, he picked up his clothes and was transported out. My boss came to the door and knocked the door down. I wasn’t looking to start a family, but it looks like I am going to. I hope I am good at it. George has said he’ll help me. He’s a great man, not judging me, just wanting to help me.”

“I … see,” the doctor replied, but the doctor’s expression and voice suggested a lack of understanding, “you will need to return for regular checkups, the nurses will see that for you.”

“Thanks doc,” Doris replied and left the office. The doctor updated Doris’ file with the visit, including her description of the encounter.

George returned to his office, and saw Charles attempt to make himself scarce.

“Charles, my office, NOW,” George said, loudly and firmly. Charles’ shoulders drooped as he did what George said.

Once they entered the office, George pointed to a chair in the room, and said “Sit. Don’t say a word, just sit and listen.”

George crossed to the console on his desk, pushed a few buttons and SpaceFace was projected onto the blank wall in his office. George pulled up the page about Charles, and the teen seemed to shrink back into his chair.

“My brother, our boss, heard from the brother of his wife that Doris and I were having an affair and that it included members of different species in some kind of weird … encounter. He was ballistic and was ready to fire me, which would mean you’d be back at that school … no field work, no deliveries, just the school. What possessed you to say such a thing to your friends?”

“You were hugging her. You said you’d help her to look after the baby,” Charles said, “I thought …”

“That’s the thing, Charles, you didn’t think,” George said, “in any case, it isn’t your information to share. It isn’t my information to share. It is Doris’ information to share. You’ve made a bad decision. You’ve shown a lack of judgement. We can’t have that in our work, Charles, we have to make good decisions, give good advice, and keep confidences.”

“I’m sorry, Mr Easter,” Charles said, looking downcast, “I didn’t mean to cause trouble for you or for Doris. I understand if you don’t want me to work for you any more and if you can’t trust me.”

“I am disappointed in your poor judgement, Charles, but this isn’t going to be end of you working with me. We all make mistakes, the important thing is, we learn from them and we try not to make them again. Yes, I was hugging Doris. She had a shock in waking to find a naked man on top of her. Yes, I did say I’d look after her and her child. With what you know of me, do you think I would leave Doris to fend for herself with her new child?” George said, and then paused for a few moments.

Charles shook his head and said “No, you wouldn’t. You’re too nice a man to do something like that, Mr Easter.”

“Thank you, Charles,” George said, “Doris is my PA and together with you is the closest thing I have to a family of my own beyond my siblings, my parents and my nieces and nephews. I care for both of you deeply, and that’s why I was so disappointed with your actions.”

“I am so sorry, Sir,” Charles replied, “it won’t happen again. I too care for you … and for Doris.” Charles blushed at that, and George coughed and used it and his hand to cover a grin … it seemed that young Charles may have had a slight crush on Doris …
