Kenzo looked directly at the waiter and said “Miso soup and tuna sashimi, please. Oh, and some red clam sashimi as well. Thank you very much.” and he inclined his head slightly towards the server. He then looked at Kaili. “So tell me a bit about yourself, Doctor. Other than parents, does anything else bring you to the dome?”

Hyrushi, Governor

“I go and stay wherever I feel I’m needed. Where I can do some good for the people. But I also like a bit of an adventure, so you’ll never find me, say in a practice on Earth or something. There are people who are better suited for that than me,” Kaili replied without hesitation and then asked in return, “How about you? Why Oed V? And why as the new governor?”

Kenzo thought for a moment and then said “Because they asked me to. And I was getting bored where I was. Oed provides me something I was missing… challenge. And the opportunity to help others. Those things have been a focus of most of my adult life. From the DMZ negotiations before and during the war… to after the war and dealing with the fallout… all of these things have served to provide me with an appetite for such things. Oed is a good place to try and satiate that hunger for a time, I think. Perhaps permanently, who knows?”

Hyrushi, Governor

“That’s the nice thing about the future, isn’t it? It hold so many possibilities and no matter what our plans are right in this moment, next year or even next week things could be very different from what we imagined,” Kaili mused and then took another sip of wine.

Kenzo smiled and said “That is the idea, Doctor.”

Hyrushi, Governor

Kaili simply nodded and returned his smile. But instead of saying anything else, she silently studied him. She wasn’t entirely sure yet what to make of the Governor. She also had the impression that there was much more to him than meets the eyes. Well, time would tell if her intuition was right, but she’d surely keep an eye on him.

Kenzo smiled to himself as he felt her curiosity and uncertainty towards him. If things were not as they were, he might have even been tempted to pursue the woman; she was certainly attractive enough. But now was not the time, and such… endeavors… held little interest to him. There was so much to do, so many things to set in motion…

Then the Federation would learn.

Their dinner arrived and Kenzo smiled. “Thank you so much. It smells magnificent.” he said to the waiter and then smiled at the Doctor. “Bon appetit, Doctor.”

Hyrushi, Governor

“And to you,” Kaili replied with a slight bow of her head. Looking down her soup bowl and plate, she wandered what exactly she was having. But that was the fun part about ordering something without knowing what you might get. So without hesitation, but full of curiosity, she helped herself to a first spoonful of soup; letting it linger in her mouth for a moment or two as she savoured it’s taste.

“So tell me,” she asked out of the blue after the silence between them had stretched on for a couple more moments. “What do you like to do when you aren’t busy working for the greater good of this colony?”

Kenzo tooka sip of his soup and nodded in approval at the taste. He then looked at Luana and said “Oh, I have several hobbies. Some are the result of my father’s teachings and intrests; but I cultivated a few of my own. From him I learned the art of Kendo and Kyūdō. And also calligraphy. I try to practice these often. From my travels, I have also become fond of wines and spirits; so I collect those as well. What about you, Doctor? What do you like to do in your free time?”

Hyrushi, Governor

“So you’re a fellow artist,” the psychologist commented with a smile. “As for myself: Whenever I get the chance I go diving. Cave diving in particular. I also make sure to keep up with some martial arts and self-defence training and usually have several arts and crafts projects going at the same time. I also go for a run every morning. Cross country when possible,” Kaili replied between spoonfuls of soup. There were a few other things she enjoyed, but those tended to be … frowned upon. So she kept those to herself. After all, there was no reason to spill all her secrets. Especially not with someone who was clearly keeping a lot of secrets as well.
