Just outside OED V’s colony, a man in an EVO climbed upward along the ash white wall of a crater. It wasn’t easy. One wrong slip might’ve cost him his life if he was careless. When he finally reached the top, he exhaled and checked his climbing gear. All secure as he fastened a new anchor on solid ground.

He pulled out a tricorder and took a knee, the device scanned the soil. This was a month requirement to survey the craters just outside the colony’s dome for any abnormalities. Whenever someone caught him, they assumed the rumors about expansion were true. It drew a small chuckle from his lips.

After a brief check over his oxygen levels, his blue eyes drifted upward. He smiled at the vast collection of stars blotted across the dark, endless night. It held a mysterious beauty all of its own. One day he aimed to be up there exploring the stars.

Reflecting on his dream, Cory caught movement outside his peripheral vision. He frowned and turned to locate it. “What is that?”

A large thing rushed through OED V’s atmosphere, the surface heated by the friction and barreled downward. It grew larger and larger the farther it went. Cory stared at it for several moments before dread filled him. It was heading right for him. Trapped on a very small platform of land, he had limited options to escape. He rushed for the ledge in the heat of panic. Just when he left the solid ground the ship skirted across where he had been moments ago.

His body swung around and slammed into the rocky wall, his ribs bruised on impact. For several moments he hung there. The rope’s sounds squeaked through his helmet stirring him awake. He glanced up, but the ship had landed inside the crater’s center. Cory’s heart had continued to pound within his head while he stared. Despite his near-death experience, curiosity filled him. He slowly made his way downward.

When response teams arrived, the ship’s fire had dissipated and it now laid in the middle of a crater. Its hull ruptured in certain places from the impact, leaving its insides to scatter across the uneven landscape. Several meters away sat Cory Wildner. The man stared off into the distance, none responsive to the arriving teams. His lips silently moved as if speaking to himself.

OOC: I’m going to give this a bump and remind people, I’m waiting on them.

Issac Ducante Jr. saw the ship crash. He wondered if there would be anything of value on the ship, but he needed a way to get to the ship and look like a part of the response team in order to scout it, and being fairly new, he hadn’t been able to get that advantage yet, so he stood at the entrance to his shop, and hoped all aboard was ok.

A man strolled up to Ducante Jr’s shop, his arms pushed a cart, and immediately paused. It was Joah Nikes, a civilian and local recycler within OED V. Any type of vehicle or device that came his way, was often stripped down and sold to be rematerialized into something new. He looked to Issac then to the hot streak left behind by the mysterious ship that crashed.

“If you’re worried, son, see if you can request to volunteer to help or clean up the damage. I’m there’s someone you can contact.”

When news of the crash site reached her, Nyx jumped into her vehicle and made her way to the property immediately. Kenzo would want answers to the many questions that would be asked and as his ‘assistant’ it was her job to stay informed. She could see the ship a long way out and wondered what had caused the crash. Pulling up to the barrier other vehicles had already made, she exited the transport and walked closer. A fairly good sized crowd of first responders was gathered, discussing the best way to approach the situation.

OOC: Since it is outside the dome, are we all wearing space suits and oxygen?

—Nyx

When Nyx arrived, the unit head, Chip-as his friends and co-workers knew him- turned and addressed her. He was a man in his late forties and his age started to show in small signs, from balding to wrinkles. Unconcerned by his presentation, he had already ordered the fire unit to start extinguishing the flames and the medical personnel to pull the currently known survivor to a safer location.

“I can’t say I’m happy to see you here so early, ma’am. So far, we only got one known survivor or witness, but we’re hoping there’s more.” Chip started with full bluntness but he still waited for her to ask him questions.

OOC: I’m going to vote yes, even if it’s just a precaution measure. I did write the man as being in an EVO suit and there needs to be some reason why outside the dome isn’t filled with life. It could be too cold/frozen/or something to prevent it.

-Janice B.

Having spent a lot of money on her EV suit, it fit closely to her body and the helmet was entirely clear, so it was fairly easy to maneuver in it. “I was actually close when the bulletin went out about the crash so I thought I’d stop and learn what I could before I see the Governor. You mentioned a survivor? Are they conscious? Do you think they could answer some questions?”

—Nyx

Nicholas had spied the crash and checked out a SF EV suit. He took his time approaching and came up not long after Nyx. Surveying the crash from this distance he didn’t address anyone or really care they were present. A ship dropping out of the sky merited his attention more than the crowd.

-Lt Cmdr Nicholas James

Issac went back inside the store and in the storage room, he took the EV suit he got from Bree for going into the mines and headed back out to go to the crash site. “That guy made an interesting point.” he mused to himself as he walked toward the crash.

“Dunno.” Chip stated, his eyes looked up from the gradual updates.

His blue eyes noted the fire unit start to pry open the hull and enter the ship, their extinguishers gradually smothered the fires. Most of the remains were charred and destined to be recycled without examination.

“A man was found sitting outside the ship,” he points to Cory Wilder, being attended to by the medical staff.

“He appears to be in shock and isn’t replying to the questions being asked. While we figure out what to do with him, we’re going to have to try to find out what we can from the ship.” Immediately he noted Nicholas James, having missed the man at first in the chaos, then lowered his voice.

“So, how are you going to deal with Starfleet? They might want to lead the investigation.” He was not a fan of the idea, naturally.

-NPC, Chip (Janice B.)

Nyx noted the arrival of James, but she wasn’t really familiar with him. Keeping her voice low on the channel she and Chip were communicating on, she gave the impression of a conspiratorial link between them. “This is one of those gray areas. It isn’t a Star Fleet ship, so exactly who gets to call the shots on this investigation is still unknown. However, I work for the Governor and he’s in charge of OED, so I’m going to head over to the ship and see if I can get on board when they get her open.”

“Would you mind doing me a favor? I would really appreciate it if you could keep your eyes open and take a couple of notes about what goes on while I’m gone. If anyone tells you to leave the site, mention Hiryoshi’s name and say you are reporting directly to him. That should make them think twice about trying to get you out of the way. Oh, and I would certainly compensate you handsomely for your time.”

—Nyx

Chips nodded in understanding, enjoying the idea of additional payment. At this point, his current career didn’t add many perks for the headache it caused him. He watched her a moment before he added.

“I can do that, but take one of the communicators on the table. We stopped giving the frequencies when some crew member decided to share it with unauthorized individuals.” Just as he finished up his sentence, his communicator went off.

=^= Chip, we have a few volunteers heading up to assist with the ship.=^=

“With who’s permission?” Chip snapped. His body leaned on the table as he absorbed the incoming conversation and silently fumed in place.

=^= Someone over yours and my head, I didn’t ask too many questions. I just gave you a heads up. =^=

The old man sighed then waved the frustration away before he addressed his coworker. “All right, I’ll deal with them when they arrive. Thanks, Jerry.”

=^= No problem, over and out.=^=

“Just my luck, more trouble to untangle.” He turned to Nyx when she started to move toward the ship, “Be careful and if you notice any malfunctions on the ship, use the communicator then get out. I rather not have any injuries if we can avoid it.”
