Joseph laughed at her question, it seemed to be out of surprised amusement than mocking. “That might actually be helpful in some of our cases. I have a specific Major Crimes unit headed by a Detective Chief Inspector Pangolin, they are the unit that deals with most crimes of a… well major type. Profiling is a useful skill when applied correctly, one of my Degrees is in Criminal Psychology, It helped in my first career with the Military Police”

Joseph & Neema

For a moment a hint of confusion played across Kaili’s face, ut that only lasted the few seconds till she was certain that he wasn’t laughing at her. “It is. And one that should also be treated with caution as it’s not a fail proof method,” she nodded. “So if I can be of any help, I’m happy to.” Tilting her her head slightly and blinking with her inner eyelids only, she continued, “I can imagine that that was helpful. What are your other degrees in?”

~Dr. Luana Iolani Kaili

Joseph and Neema exchanged looks and a smile “I have another Doctorate in Criminology, my other degrees are of the musical variety. The Trumpet, Violin, and Piano. You’d be surprised how much a little bit of music can lighten the mood during stressful events” He looked at the Doctor with a smile “We don’t get many Xahean’s all the way out here, most of the populace is Human” Neema said “What brings you this far out?” The Trill asked with polite curiosity.

Joseph & Neema

“Oh, I know. I’m not very gifted when it comes to music myself, but I know how beneficial music and the arts in general are. I’m a systemic therapist, but I also have a degree in art therapy and I worked with music therapist at various points during my career,” Kaili replied, returning Joseph’s smile before looking at Neema. She allowed herself a heartbeat or two of a pause, before answering the other woman’s question. “I am looking for information about my birth parents and my last lead pointed me here. Though …” She exhaled audibly and then continued, “Finding information about a woman who has been dead for 36 years and a nameless man is not exactly an easy undertaking. Maybe even a pointless one. But from what I have been able to find out is that my birth mother was apparently here or at least in this system around the time when she got pregnant. And as you just mentioned, not many Xaheans come so I’m certain someone must have noticed them.” She gave a small shrug and for a short moment turned her face towards the dome above them before looking back at Neem and Joseph.

Neema gave the woman an understanding and sympathetic look JOseph only looked forward a thoughtful expression on his face. It was a few moments before he spoke up “Well in that case I offer my assistance in your search, I personally can’t walk around asking questions but DCI Pangolin could be very beneficial to your search. He’s been on Oed longer than most and if anyone can help you he can. I’ve known the man for a long time and he is one of the better investigators I’ve met” He tapped a small computer apparently attached to his wrist “I’ve sent you his contact details, he’ll help you however he can” He looked at the woman and smiled.

Joseph and Neema

Blinking with her inner eyelids, Kaili smiled at Joseph and slightly bowed her head. “Thank you Commissioner. I appreciate that,” she replied and then fell silent again, thinking some more about his offer. So far she had mostly worked alone in her search and when she relied on others it had generally been for specific things and only for a short period of time. Though if she wanted to find out more, it probably would be good to accept the offer. And she did want to find out more, if possible even find her birth father, didn’t she?

Joseph nodded with a smile and interlocked his arm with his wife again, Neema spoke up “How are you Finding the dome?” She asked.

Joseph and Neema

“It is very different from any other place I’ve lived at before. But so far I like it,” Kaili replied thoughtfully and then asked, “How about you? And how long have you been here?”

~Dr. Luana Iolani Kaili

Joseph and Neem exchanged a look, it seemed they were counting “Maybe just over seven” Neema started and Joseph continued “We left for almost a year when I retired as Governor but returned when the last head of the Police department left.” He explained.

Joseph and Neema

Blinking rapidly with both sets of her eyelids a couple of times, Kaili looked at Joseph slightly surprised. “You have been the Governor of OED V before?”

~Dr. Luana Iolani Kaili

Joseph chuckled at her surprise “Yes I have, it wasn’t for a long time and not a job for me. I’ve run military squads and armies and police forces but a Colony is a different beast altogether.” He looked at a small cafe they were passing “Would you care for a seat and something to drink” He asked her.

Joseph & Neema

“I hear you,” Kaili replied with a soft laugh. “I’ve done jobs myself that were not a good fit. And yes, I’d love to sit down in the café with you two.” she continued and led the way over to the café. Spotting an empty table in front of the café, she walked straight over and took a seat.

~Dr. Luana Iolani Kaili

The husband and wife joined the woman in the seat, Neema seemed graceful in her movements almost regal whilst Joseph still carried himself like a soldier, a fairly uncommon characteristic in a soldier. “What brought you to psychology?” Neema asked with curiosity.

Joseph and Neema

Leaning back in her chair, Kaili smiled a little wistfully. “My mums, I think. Mental health and mental well-being is something they have always considered very important. They taught us kids early on how important it is to take of one’s mental health and how one can do that. Out of that grew my curiosity for mental illness and what can be done to help people. So one thing led to the next and I just knew that psychology would be the right path for me.”

Looking from Joseph to Neema Kaili asked, “What made the two of you choose your careers?”

~Dr. Luana Iolani Kaili

Neema was first to answer “I grew up just outside the Planetary Capitol on Trill but I spent a great deal of time in the City with my great-aunt who was a surgeon herself. I fell in love with medicine there spent as much time as I could learning all there was. When I was of age I started working with a Federation medical group. I mostly worked on the Cardassian front during the Cardassian Federation war where I met Joe” She said with a slight smile.

Joseph nodded and spoke next “I learn fast, by ten I was fluent in five languages and an expert boxer at least technically speaking. I spent most of my teen years preparing myself for something, I was never sure what but it involved a lot of fighting, languages, and other skills. I sought the toughest training and that happened to be the Starfleet Marine Corps. I also studied criminology which led me to the Military Police. When I met Neema I was chasing a spy across what became the DMZ, I was injured and she patched me up, my squad leader managed to convince her to replace our medics”
