The husband and wife joined the woman in the seat, Neema seemed graceful in her movements almost regal whilst Joseph still carried himself like a soldier, a fairly uncommon characteristic in a soldier. “What brought you to psychology?” Neema asked with curiosity.

Leaning back in her chair, Kaili smiled a little wistfully. “My mums, I think. Mental health and mental well-being is something they have always considered very important. They taught us kids early on how important it is to take of one’s mental health and how one can do that. Out of that grew my curiosity for mental illness and what can be done to help people. So one thing led to the next and I just knew that psychology would be the right path for me.”

Looking from Joseph to Neema Kaili asked, “What made the two of you choose your careers?”

Neema was first to answer “I grew up just outside the Planetary Capitol on Trill but I spent a great deal of time in the City with my great-aunt who was a surgeon herself. I fell in love with medicine there spent as much time as I could learning all there was. When I was of age I started working with a Federation medical group. I mostly worked on the Cardassian front during the Cardassian Federation war where I met Joe” She said with a slight smile.

Joseph nodded and spoke next “I learn fast, by ten I was fluent in five languages and an expert boxer at least technically speaking. I spent most of my teen years preparing myself for something, I was never sure what but it involved a lot of fighting, languages, and other skills. I sought the toughest training and that happened to be the Starfleet Marine Corps. I also studied criminology which led me to the Military Police. When I met Neema I was chasing a spy across what became the DMZ, I was injured and she patched me up, my squad leader managed to convince her to replace our medics”

OOC: I’m sorry it took me so long to reply. RL kicked me hard in the behind.

Kaili smiled softly as she listen closely to both of them and watched them. They connection they had and their love for one another were obvious and brought a smile to her face, while also kindling that longing within her to find “her person”, so to speak, one day. After silently acknowledging that thought and the feelings that came with, she let it pass. Now was not the moment to linger on those thoughts and feelings. Instead she said, “I have no real personal experience of that war. I wasn’t even born yet for the most part of it. And while I have never been a front line worker in any conflict, I have worked with many people, Starfleet and civilians, who still suffered from PTSD and such as a result of the Dominion war. But of course I don’t want to draw any conclusion or make assumptions about either of your experience based on that. If I am overstepping or you don’t want to talk about it, I fully understand. Though if you don’t mind talking about, would you be willing to share with me what your experience was like?”

Joseph and Neema exchanged a look and a knowing smile, Joseph spoke “The Cardassian war was not a taxing affair for me at least not compared to the Dominion War, I’d even hesitate to call it a war anymore or any conflict since the Klingon War of the 22nd century. But in that conflict, we spent most of our time hunting those deemed too dangerous to be allowed to continue, war criminals, spies, despots. We hardly ever served on the front lines until the armistice and then we were redeployed” He said but before he continued Neema spoke “This was around the Time Starfleet started having dedicated counselors on their ships and stations and not just psychologists working as general medical staff. Most of the team received counseling after the conflict ended but I didn’t see that heavy an impact on them at the time”

Kaili nodded here and there as she listened attentively to what both of them said.

Joseph nodded at her explanation “I’ve served during most major Federation conflicts in over thirty years including the Cardassian, Klingon, and Dominion wars. I spent the majority of the Dominion War as a General but I was on Betazed during the liberation” His face turned solemn and Neema continued “I arrived during the aftermath and it was a truly distressing time but I like to think that we managed to pull through fairly well” She put a hand on her husband’s arm and squeezed gently and Joseph seemed to snap back to the moment “Yes I think we did, therapy did help but chasing after escaped war criminals with my wife and my brother was very therapeutic.” he smiled slightly “I like to think of my work here as retirement of sorts, It’s good hard work and rewarding and organizing a police force is a simple matter after running much of an entire Marine Division” He said with a smile “I’ve had a long time to get over my years of war so I am willing to answer any questions you may have.”

Joseph and Neema

Watching them closely, a tender smile tugging at the corners of her lips, Kaili was silent for a few moments. His words had conjured up some memories of her own and eventually she said, “If worked with two Betazoids who were there during the Occupation. They weren’t among those who fought the Jem’Hadar telepathically, but of course they felt everything, heard everyone’s thoughts.” She shook her head and left it at that. Instead she continued, “I’m glad you two found healthy coping skills to deal with and work through everything you have experienced. That’s important. Especially considering that those memories, those experience never truly leave us.”
