Ragna read it, didn’t she say that already? No…no she did not. Gods above and below she was muddle headed. She swallowed down a moment of hysterical laughter. How had her life suddenly become like this? Her mind turned to Revna and Mike and then to her Seamus.

Migraines, she hated them. She was lucky to remember what she did. “I thought he was going to kill me. I was scared for my life.” And the truth of the statement suddenly hit her. The moment she’d screamed for Seamus…they’d fought and that man…Argyle…was going to kill her. And Seamus was never going to hear here going to hear her. She began to cry, in earnest, wracking silent sobs. Helka whispered nonsense to her quietly trying to calm her. Her gaze meeting Tara’s. A heartache only a mother could understand. Ragna wanted Seamus and it took every once of self restraint not to yell for him.
Ragna

Tannery looked at her and said “Easy, there… easy. We’re all done now, don’t fret.” He reached out and touched her hand. Immediately an overwhelming wave of relief and calm spread from his hand to hers, flowing through her.

Ragna’s eyes widened slightly in surprise and a look of thanks crossed her features before she slid her hand away.

Tannery looked at Helka and said “She can rest now, Mum… I’ve got what I need. You can call for your lads.” He looked at Tara and nodded once and then stood up. He tipped his hat to Helka and Ragna. “I appreciate your candor and time, ladies. I’ll be in touch once we have things sorted a bit more thoroughly.” With that he turned and began walking down the path away from the house. “Blasted scrambler ya got running gonna make me get me steps in today, thats for sure!” and he waved as he walked on and out of site. As he called, Seamus appeared from behind the house and moved to Ragna. “Ok, wife… do ya want to go inside or stay out here and wait for that stubborn git of a ram? He’ll be here in an hour or so.” and he gave her a smile.

Seamus

Ragna glanced at Tara, rubbing at her hand where Tannery had touched her. “Dè bha sin? (What was that? Gaelic)” Helka got up as Seamus returned. Ragna turned into him, “I want to go inside…Seamus.”

“Done and done, love. Just hang on to me.” and he began to get her ready to move.

Ragna nodded silently, putting her arms around his neck.

Helka stepped inside the house, she went to the cabinet by the sink and then left several containers of tinctures and salves by the bed for Seamus and moved the quilt out if the way. Then she took an insulated container and stepped outside. “She’s in a lot of pain, Seamus. I put some of your tinctures by the bed. That creek I glimpsed, looks like it runs cold. Cuyler and I will get some to put on her ankle.” Helka moved away and Cuyler put an arm around her and led her away, where she could let vent everything she’d kept quiet while Ragna talked.

Seamus just nodded and lifted Ragna gingerly up and carried her inside, shutting the door behind them.

Ragna relaxed as much as she could, to make it easier for Seamus as he lifted her. The effort and tension of the interview, if not the events, draining out of her. Aurora got up to follow but the door closed before she got in. She scampered off to bug Oddvar and investigate Tara.

Oddvar looked at Tara, “Well, Lady Tara do you think it’s safe to clean this mess up now? Or will they be back?”
Ragna

Tara looked at Oddvar and said “Just Tara, if you please. And no. At least not for a few days. So yes, if you don’t mind giving me a hand, we can get this mess sorted so when she steps out there are no small reminders of… of…” and her voice caught in her throat slightly, “… of that circumstance.” and she stepped forward and picked up a broom and started sweeping the walk.

Tara

The catch in her voice tugged at Oddvar. He reached out and wrapped his big arms around her and awkwardly patted her back. “It’s alright Tara.” And then he stepped away grabbing a garden hoe off the rack, and began clearing and smoothing the beds that had been trampled. “Ragna will be alright. She’s got your Seamus and he has all of us to make sure she gets better. And you have me…uh…and Cuyler and Helka. All of us to make sure some good comes of this.” He worked quietly then righting the soil. He was a blacksmith, but he had learned a few tricks from his late wife and soon had most of the damaged plants trimmed or splinted so they would survive.
Oddvar

The touch caused her to tense slightly and her breathe to catch… again. “Your presence here is a boon to Ragna I am sure.” Tara said with a wavering formality in her voice. “And some good simply must come of this, Mr. Edman… it has to. I will not allow that dear girl’s pain to be for nothing.” and she looked at him as he worked. “You are well versed in the care of the garden. I can see where Ragna’s attunement with the old ways comes from. Your family and Seamus will get along just fine I think.” and she chuckled. “Ragna said you are a smith? So is my granddaughter… Seamus’s sister. That hoe in your hand is her work.”

Tara
