Urg looked at her oddly for a moment and then said “These smell… different. Is that… is that cumin?! GODS BE PRAISED!!! Beautiful and with a sense of taste, too! That swill most try to claim as gagh isn’t fit for a targ’s bowels. This, though…” and he grabbed a handful of squirming serpent-worms and bit down, crushing them and drinking their blood before chewing and swallowing. “Delicious.” he said with a grin and took the bowl and held it for her… something no Klingon Lord would do to a bar-keep, let alone only a half Klingon one, especially in public… but he didn’t seem to care. “Come, enjoy with me.” he said just under the sound of revelry around him. He looked at her and smiled.

Urg’tohn, Son of the Builder

Mirai nodded appreciatively. “Your refinement brings much honour to your house,” she remarked, before bringing her lips close to Urg’s ear and adding quietly, “I knew that beneath this magnificent and bold exterior, there would lurk the heart of a true poet.”

Urg laughed softly and said back to her, his eyes locked onto hers, “You have no need to flatter me or placate me with unfounded niceties. Bold I may be, but I hold no delusions as to my ‘magnificence’… or lack thereof. Be you… I will be me… and hopefully that will spark enough to lite a fire between us.” and he grabbed a worm and held it out to her, offering it to her as if in sacrifice.

Mirai took the worm with thanks, allowing it momentarily to curl around her fingers, before placing it eagerly into her mouth. Then, her attention returning to her companion, she replied without a trace of her earlier bravado, “It is good to know that your boldness surpasses your ego. I can appreciate a man who speaks plain and shall give you the same in return.”

Urg gave her a look that was suddenly serious. “Plain speak and truth is all you will ever get from me. That I swear.” And then just as suddenly, the seriousness was gone and he handed her a goblet and raised his own in a toast. “To truth. Honor. And the beginnings of respect.”

Johann took a more conservative approach to eating the Gagh, he produced two sticks from his person he used to carefully pick up each wriggling worm and placing it in his mouth, chewing methodically, outwardly he seemed to enjoy the taste. “Yes, quite excellent” He complimented the barkeep, inclining his head slightly. He took a deep drink of his ale and continued eating, he wasn’t as fast as the Klingons at eating but he did not dishonour himself by drinking less. The older man looked decidedly odd in his fine suit and funny way of eating Klingon cuisine but he also seemed at ease around the raucous laughter and revelry around him “Decidedly better then the last time I had Gagh, standard Imperial Naval foodstuffs never matches the homemade stuff”

Johann Karlson

“I believe most of the ship food is based on someone having lost a bet.” Urg said and clapped the man on the shoulder.

bump

Johann nodded slowly “That does sound like something the Klingon High Military command would do, I always thought it was some sort of Klingon Bravado” He deliberately made his voice deeper and gruffer spoke in fluent Klingon “Big strong Warrior does not need taste or a healthy meal” His accent was that of an outer Colony Klingon Merchant. He chuckled and continued in Standard “It’s a shame you don’t have proper mess halls, the things your chefs can do with minimal resources is impressive, I always try to have a Klingon Chef working at my restaurants.”

Johann Karlson

“Come to the Kavaar’ton! We have a full mess with kitchen! We only use replicated foods when we travel for long periods on…” and he grinned, “… business.” and then he laughed loudly.

Lord Duroc

Nakuto chuckled heartily at Karlson’s impersonation of a Klingon merchant, before adding playfully, “I heard that for members of the Old Earth Navy, the best way to improve one’s own diet was to have onesself thrown in the brig!”

Falling silent, she once again studied the older man. “It is often rare to find non-Klingons who are able to digest Klingon foodstuffs. Have you spent much time with our people, Mr Karlson?”

Johann smiled at his plate “I’ve spent a year or six in the Empire, most Humans can come to like any food they try even if eating it might kill them” He shrugged “I left Earth at eighteen and travelled the Quadrant. I’ve been to most of the Federations large neighbours, there’s a lot of travelling you can do in fifty years and Klingons are interesting, I once spent three months meditating at a long-forgotten monastery where they only spoke the words written on the Paq’bathl, The even used it as lyrics to songs” He chortled at the thought “The only other place I’ve spent as much time with I suppose would be the Romulans but they don’t have as good a sense of humour”

Johann Karlson

Leaning forward, K’vorth finished his handle of ale and slid it aside. His bald head accented the metal eye patch emblazoned with the symbol of Kvaar’ton, the same symbol tattooed on the side of his head.

“That wasn’t one of those new fangled tourist monasteries that they call “lost” ones was it? I hear these days they do that, come up with some tripe of a religious text and make the words catchy, throw in a little Klingon Opera and wham, you get guests that visit and leave enlightened.” Laughing he reached for a bone of meat, pointedly avoiding the seasoned Gagh.

K’vorth

Johann cackled at K’Vorths comment “Yes I’ve seen something similar, I always thought that was more a Romulan tactic, creating false religious settlements, hiding the trueness of their culture behind a veil but Humans often forget that Klingons are very sly” He gave the Klingons around a pointed look “Hidden behind all that bravado, loudness and Honor there’s a deep cunning” He shrugged “Well at least with some of them when they have a shared enemy.”

Johann Karlson

“We treat people as we receive them,” Mirai replied. “And for those who exploit our traditions in the name of entertainment, that is precisely what they shall receive in return. Only, the entertaining will be entirely for our benefit.”

“Well said… although I personally believe that anyone idiotic enough to fall for such marketing deserves what comes to them.”

Urg, Lord Duroc
