Nothing more so exacerbated the point of that thorn than when he and Rondara walked into the mansion and looked about. Jordar knew something was up, he could sense it as he watched Rondara scamper off towards her bedroom. It was the smell that gave it away more than anything out of place. Everything was perfect, the civilian minders made sure of that, and Karina had been good to not even move the rug a millimeter when she came through. The faint scent of the tea hit him first, a touch of sour combined with notes that were vaguely reminiscent of olives and pickled ume. He had his suspicions before but this proved it! He heard Rondara running towards him as she brightly said “Look at what Ms. Enger left me! ” Clutched in her arms was the stuffie and her schedule along with the kind note on the calculations. He smiled as he silently walked up to his bedroom and found the note. The surest proof of what he had already known to be true. He set the note down and grabbed one of the larger PaDD’s off the desk across from his bed and simply typed “I suppose I am. That’s cute. Be here in 20”

Jordar, LT Governor

Karina wasn’t far, and it would be absolutely pointless wishful thinking on Jodar’s part to think she was actually 20 minutes away. Standing in the shadow of the house, leaning, now, against the wall Karina looked down at the message on the micro PaDD in her hand and smiled. The man gave her headaches, to no end, and she told him that frequently. More because of the telepathy/vocal language barrier than anything Jodar did or did not do. But Karina didn’t tell him that. In truth she had missed them both, Jodar and Rondara, a great deal. She took the stairs to the porch quickly and walked through the door into the main room at exactly 20 seconds after he sent the message. “You did not specify the time increment, Jodar.” Her voice carrying but not loud.

“MS ENGER!” And Karina got nearly bowled over by the seven year old girl. Karina bent down and captured Rondara in a huge hug and lifted her off the ground. “Oh, my Phinanna, you’ve grown an inch since I saw you.” Certainly she had, Rondara was at that age where children grew so quickly. Karina set her down, but hugged her a moment longer. Rondara was an independent child, but she’d lost quite a bit for one so young and she tended to cling for a moment and Karina let her. She’d been Karina’s constant companion before. She pulled back and looked the girl in the eye, “I am very proud of you for your math project. It is simple calculations but very time consuming and you didn’t make sloppy mistakes. AND” she glanced around and dropped her voice to a stage whisper, “You will have to ask your father to take you to the new zoo. It has a pair of real sehlats.” Rondara’s eyes lit up and she was already gearing up to ask Jodar to take her. “So where is your father? He was always bossy before. Is he totally intolerable now that he’s a captain?” Rondara giggled because she knew that her father was standing right behind Karina.

Enger, ED

He was indeed around and absolutely intolerable to those that answered to him, but that being said Karina was a civilian and could very well tell him to go take a long walk off a short pier if she wanted to. Sure Jordar would have something equally kind to say to her, but that was the fun they had wasn’t it? He heard her talking to Rondara and smiled, the little girl had worked really really hard on those equations and knew that she was doing something right if Karina told her it was good work. That was one things that she did well as a teacher, she told the kids the honest truth if they wanted to hear it or not! The little girl’s voice rose and rose into a squeal as she jumped with nervous energy and looked past Karina and said, “So can we go dad? Can we can we can we pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?” Jordar just chuckled and put his hands on Karina’s shoulders “Didn’t know you thought so highly of me. Figures that the minute I’m back we’re at insults again. Just the way I like it. How’s dealing with the colony’s children? Ready to have mine back?” He said as he looked down at Rondara, “Only if Ms Enger goes with us, otherwise absolutely not”

Jordar

Jodar’s hands on her shoulders only confirmed what Karina already knew, he was really close. She turned giving him her best justified incredulous stare. “Someone has to try and keep you in line. And that means I am stuck with you until we can get a Tellarite officer transferred out here.” By the four winds she’d missed that man. “Well I have been yelled at, threatened, ac…accosted, and called a cruel.” She shrugged with a grin, “But that is just the members of the school board I fired.” She looked down at Rondara and hugged her again. “Verin and Iona both will be happy to see you again,” she told the girl. She shrugged at Jodar, “I am happy to have her back, but I guess that means I have to put up with you too?” If not for her years of training, Karina would have ruined the effect by smiling at him. She was not going to admit, right now, she’d missed him. She’d tell him that later. Rondara was giggling at the way her father and Ms Enger were insulting each other and tugging on Karina’s hand at the same time. “Will you go? Will you?” Karina glared at Jodar, but it lasted only a moment before she smiled at him and then back down at Rondara. “Yes, but not today. The new zoo is so big you can not see it all in one day. Besides, it would be incredibly cruel to make your father deal with Ferengi on his first day back. And I suppose I might owe him for bringing you both back here. But I know a secret about this house that he does not, but I will only tell if he promises to finish what he started.”

Enger, ED

Letting out a roar of laughter, Jordar smiled at the comment of the school board firings. “You only keep the best company professionally and personally. I’m not surprised at all that you thought it best to make enemies in the colony so soon.” He came around to face Karina and decided to quip back, “Oh you’re the one putting up with me now are you? They could have stationed me anywhere in the quadrant but no, I get the dubious displeasure of being stuck in walking distance of your house!” Jordar replied as he too was happy to have her back. Every day that passed, and for what he didn’t want to admit, he had missed her terribly. To outside observers they would wonder why these two people hated each other, but in truth they were perfect for each other. He was the first to crack, the intel officer in him shrugging and letting some emotion show as he let out a smile.

Karina couldn’t help but grin when Jodar laughed. “Oh I do? Then what am I doing hanging around you, then?” She winked at Rondara, “Well I guess I can move away if it’s so awful having me near by. You could have turned the job down Jodar. I didn’t make you come back here.” Oh but was she happy to have them there, and she smiled back at him. Though she was too good of an intel agent to let her emotions show in her work, she’d shown a level of distraction in her off hours that was abnormal for her.

Groaning and letting a shudder out he said, “I do my best to understand that other species appreciate phony social interactions but so far I have yet to meet a Ferengi who isn’t a two faced, dishonest, money grubbing slimeball. I appreciate not being subjected to them.....yet....” Jordar blinked slowly before looking at Karina, “Could you be any more vague? What? Do you have a problem just being direct? What do you want me to do?”

Jordar, Lt Gov.

“Hmmm there are two new Ferengi Dai’Mon’s settling in on the colony. Hoka runs the zoo and is an astute businessman and so far nothing has pinged. He’s offered to do quite a bit to help build the colony, supposedly all free of charge because the long term gains will pay for his investment. He has also agreed to set up internships for the school children. Could be true, could be Velka dung. Zerbo, boss to Hoka…Hoka is pulling one over on Zerbo by the way…is a typical Ferengi and I try to steer clear of him. You’re take on the whole situation would be valuable.”

“A Ferengi proposing to lose money now for later? Don’t they have some rule that says ‘There’s always a catch’?” He rolled his eyes and dreaded the next steps to take as he had to work with these money grubbing men.

Karina smirked at him, “Vague? Vague there is only one thing you have started and not finished. But I suppose you were a bad teacher from the very beginning.” Karina sauntered across the living area and to the door leading to a massive patio and keyed in a passcode and the patio seemed to shimmer and then slid open revealing a massive, lagoon-esque, saltwater filtered swimming pool. Or the biggest fish pond ever. When setting up the property for the new Lt Governor, someone had let slip he was Zaldan and they did their best to make him at home.

“Oh yes, my worst student ever who didn’t know her head from her feet or the right way up when on dry land, that’s right!” Jordar quipped as his eyes lit up at the sight of the pool. He wrapped an arm around Karina and smiled, “I think we can resume lessons, how about right now?” Jordar asked, wondering if Karina would think he’d throw her in. Now let’s make something clear he absolutely wanted to throw her in, but unless she had a fetching swimsuit under her outfit or something to change into, he wasn’t going to be a jerk. He hated phony displays of emotion, not being a jerk.
