Back at her place after spending the night with Karilan in their apartment, Kaili had changed into different clothes and puttered around a little before getting the most important things from her work to-do list done. So now she could do other things and not feel terribly guilty about it. Sure, she was neglecting her duties a little right now, but not in critical areas. Not to mention that she had a team of people working for her and everyone had tasks to do and knew what needed to be done. And they knew that they could call her if she was needed for anything. So taking a bit more time off than normal and focus on Karilan and herself wasn’t a bad thing. Everyone needed a healthy work-life-balance. And in the past things had always tipped slightly (if not heavily) towards work most of the time. Whereas things had shifted more towards life in the past 24 hours. For the time being that was okay. With all that going through her mind, she was sitting at her desk, looking at the screen in front of her and trying to focus on her work a little longer while she waited for Karilan to arrive.

There was a chime at the door at almost exactly noon.

At the sound of the chime a wide smile spread across Kaili’s face and she quickly got up and walked over to the door to open it.

As the door slid open, Karilan stood in the hallway outside. In their hands were two dozen scintillating flowers that seemed to be made of glass and that chimed softly when they moved. “For you.” Karilan said as they handed her the flowers and leaned in and kissed her cheek. They then smiled at her and blushed slightly as they leaned in and kissed her on the lips.

Karilan

“Hi,” Kaili said softly as she took the flowers and kissed Karilan back. Breaking their kiss, she slipped one hand into theirs and pulled them gently inside. “Thank you for the flowers. They are beautiful! And welcome to my apartment.”

They were standing in a small, but light hallway. Four doors were leading off of it. The walls where ivory coloured and there where a few large photographs on the walls. All of them were landscapes. The floor was made of warm hardwood.

“Come, I’ll show you around, if you like,” Kaili offered, still smiling happily.

“I would like that very much, I think.” they said and followed her into the apartment. They looked at photos and nodded in appreciation. “These are very good. Did you take them?”

Karilan

“No,” Kaili shook her head and chuckled softly. “I’m not a photographer. A friend of mine from university took them. He has an amazing eye and talent for this and all the other art he creates.”

Reaching for Karilan’s hand, Kaili led the way into the first room to their left. As they stepped over the threshold, they found themselves in a small, but cosy office. To the right there was an elegant wooden desk, positioned in such a way that one could see the whole room and also look out the window while working there. Next to the desk was a large, matching bookcase filled with actual books. But it also held a few mementos and photographs. To the left there was a comfortable looking three-seater couch, two winged armchairs (all in a warm burgundy red with a few small cream coloured cushions and a matching cosy blanket folded over the arm rest of the couch) and glass coffee table. There was a large candle and a box of tissues on the coffee table. On the wall behind the couch was another large photograph. This time of a quiet sunset over an ocean.
