Our Life

Posted Dec. 9, 2021, 5:54 p.m. by Civilian Patrice Wesley-Grey (Resident) (Russell Watt)

OOC: Bonnie Wesley and Clyde Grey are the ‘parents’ of Patrice … not her birth parents, her adopted parents. They hae given her the best of everything, in fact it seems that they have a steady stream of visitors and one of them are usually gone for some time … nothing to see here, they are just your common 24th century parents doing their best to bring up their daughter … it isn’t as though they are doing anything … illegal, is it? Just because their house has some artwork from a dozen or more different worlds and it keeps on changing doesn’t mean anything, does it? The fact that they had the same initials as ‘Bronwyn West and Clive Gray’ was just a coincidence … wasn’t it?

IC: Bonnie was at the workstation in the downstairs study of the family mansion overlooking San Francisco Bay and its famous bridge. The sound of the roller door went up and her husband called out

“Honey, I’m home! Where are you?”

“The downstairs study,” she replied and shortly after that, he joined her there, Clyde had a strange, almost pained look on his face,

Without any further ado, not even a kiss, he blurted out, in tune and time with a song that was almost a Billy Joel song …

“Got a call from HQ
Honey I’m really sorry
But we have to go far away
Our covers blown, house is sold
Bought tickets to the Black Fleet
To be safe we have to leave within the day”

Bonnie blurted out “What?” her eyes panicked. But Clyde continued

“I don’t need you to worry for us, we’ll be alright,
I need you to tell Patrice it’s time to come home
I don’t care what she’ll have to say, we’ll start a new life
Far away from here, ‘neath Oed V’s dome”

Bonnie had regained her composure, rose and held her husband in her hands, and began to sing

“We never said they had to offer us a second chance
We never said we were victims of circumstance
We still belong, don’t get me wrong
And HQ can speak their minds, but not on our time

Many a time we’ve had to sleep alone in a strange place
Many a time we’ve had to sleep with somebody else
Ah, but sooner or later your life’s naught but a race
Either way it’s OK, we chose this for ourselves”

“Once again, honey, I’m sorry,” Clyde said, but Bonnie put a finger to his lips and returned to singing

“You don’t need to worry for me ‘cause I’m alright
I entered this life with you with eyes opened wide
I don’t care what they say anymore, this is our life
They can go ahead with their own lives, leave us alone”

Then Clyde twirled Bonnie and took over the singing

“I never said they had to offer us a second chance
I never said that we were victims of circumstance
We still belong, don’t get me wrong
And they can speak their minds, but not on our time
I don’t care what they say anymore, this is our life
They can go ahead with their own lives, leave us alone”

And they danced on as the music faded, and they finished with,

“Go ahead with their own lives, leave us alone.”

Once the music faded, Bonnie looked at Clyde and winced
“Of course, all of that is well and good, but we do have a 12 year old expecting a big perfect party for her 13th, and all that effort to get ‘Rock the Horta’ to perform and everything.”

“I’ll leave that to you, I’ll start packing,” Clyde answered with a smile.

And then she did call her daughter, and the final cry of ‘NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO’ echoed through the house even after they finished the subspace call.

“She didn’t take it well then,” Clyde called down, in a questioning tone of voice.

“Better than I expected,” Bonnie answered.

OOC: Yes, before I got addicted to musical theatre, I’ve been a massive Billy Joel fan - his River of Dreams Concert has been the only concert I’ve attended live. I recall he had a rotating stage and enjoyed turning it around to give different members of the audience a chance to see him face on … and then he added “of course, all those people way back there are no closer to seeing me” despite that, it was awesome! - Song was based on My Life from his 52nd Street album from 1978
