Two days on the colony and it was almost like she never had left. Almost, but not quite. She wasn’t staying in her sister’s beautiful villa on that hill overlooking the colony. No, she’d gotten herself a one-bedroom apartment and had plotted out a handful of shops and eating establishments that might be hiring. She was prepared to go out later today or tomorrow and start pounding the pavement. After all, she was determined to make it on her own out here. She had plans.

The weather was pleasant, which Oed almost always was- the perk of the dome. But she had been hearing about people experimenting living outside the dome and the thought made her shudder. She just wasn’t that adventurous. Now her sister on the other hand would have been first in line, but then again she had done the initial work that allowed that all to happen and was the adventures in space former scientist. Halai was just so much braver than herself. Hands down.

Her mother’s comments still rang in her head as she tossed on a light jacket and slung a bag over her shoulder. All about how it made no sense why Kristina wanted to move back to the colony and why couldn’t she just be happy on Earth and how disappointed she was that Kristina wasn’t wanting to come out from her sister’s shadow. But Kristina simply smiled and kissed her mom on the cheek and packed her bags.

See, Janine had missed all the interesting parts about having two daughters. Pretending Kristina and Adam were her only children had bene her mother’s loss and it had taken a good long time for herself to see that, to see the hurt that had been needlessly caused. No, she was no longer satisfied with being the shield her mother used against Halai. Same went with her father. She was done being put in the middle.

Besides, Halai was living her best life on Tyrellia, and why shouldn’t she? She had just been named Tyrellia’s Cultural Ambassador. Kristina wasn’t living in Halai’s shadow by returning to Oed. No, she was taking a cue from her older sis and letting Oed mold and shape her into someone she wanted to be.

Half an hour later, Cosgrove arrived at a large building that had clearly gone through some renovations. It was nice! The new sign read OED UNIVERSITY and it made her smile.

Moving inside, she approached the main help desk. “Hi, I have an appointment with an admissions officer? Where do I go for that?”

~Kristina Cosgrove

A Bolean woman, with a far too wide spread grin, munching on what looked like tritanium crackers waved her around the desk. “Right here! How lovely, I just love seeing new faces. What’s your name? What time was your appointment? What are you looking to study? Or still feeling it out? This is wonderful, we are SO excited! Come come this way.” Without even waiting for an answer or to look up the appointment she ushered Cosgrove toward a hall way and knocked on a door. “Mr Bead we have a new student for yooooouuuu.” Direlara sang as she opened the door uninvited.

Kristina did her best to mask the smirk that waned to slip onto her face at the woman’s clear enthusiasm and allowed herself to be swept along.

With a heavy sigh and a complacent grin the man spoke, “Thank you Direlara.” Reniad Bead was a trill man of average height and a very studious look about him. Slightly slumped shoulders, crinkled eyes, and pursed lips that suggested he spent a lot of time reading a computer screen. He stood and offered his hand “Reniad Bead,” then waved to a seat, “Have a seat and why don’t you tell me all the answers to the questions Direlara asked but didn’t give you time to answer.”

With a wide grin, she sat, setting her bag on her lap. “I’m Krsitina Cosgrove. I have an appointment to discuss returning to schooling. I did the two-year program in public relations and diplomacy here and for personal reasons left Oed for a bit, but I’m back and I hear you have expanded it into a degree program? I wanted to hear more and if I would qualify. My transcripts should be in the system still. I also have some recommendations if you need them?” Had she been the most exceptional student? No. But her grades had been solid. She was hoping it would be enough.

Reniad typed her name in and searched what they were calling the ‘old school archive.’ “Ah! Found it. Now let me see,” he tapped and scrolled and added things to a PaDD before handing it over.

“We have several Bachelor’s degrees in Public relations. For Bachelor of Arts we have:
BA in Human Services
BA in Human Services - Child & Family Services
BA in Human Services - Gerontology
BA in Political Science
BA in Sociology - Community Health
And for our Bachelor of Science degrees:
BS in Business Administration - Public Administration
BS in Community Health Education

We offer Masters programs as well, but you would have to complete a Bachelor’s program first.
Specifically in Diplomacy we currently only offer a MSc in International Diplomacy and the Digital State.”

Reniad

Kristina blew out a breath. “I guess it depends on what I want to do career-wise, doesn’t it?” She chewed on the inside of her cheek for a moment and gazed at Reniad. “Okay, at the risk of sounding too ambitious, I have this inkling about working for Oed’s government, maybe as an assistant somewhere to start, and seeing what happens. I’m not interested in politics per-say, so I’m thinking that the Business Administration degree sounds like it would fit. What do you think?”

~Kristina Cosgrove

Reniad grinned, “That sounds like a good fit. The Business Admin degree covers Policy Analysis and the Role of the Public, Federation Politics and Public Fiscal Management. And all of our degree programs now require in depth internships, so you will actually get to work with the Oed Government for two semesters. You’ll know by the end if that is what you really want.” A tap at his computer sent the course list and degree requirements. “It also looks like most of your previous credits should apply to the basic degree program prerequisites.”
